Chapter 1

It was a perfect day. The clear, blue sky was doming the earth like a mighty warrior. The birds are chirping happily as they enjoyed the perfect sun. The refreshing breeze was circling the surroundings, making everyone enjoy the warmth of summer. Indeed, what a great day for a wedding to commence! Meanwhile, Sapphire 'Sara' Harris, the bride was waiting inside the bridal car. She leaned outside the car window, with her heart throbbing inside her chest like crazy. On the other side of the tinted glass, she witnessed how the wedding coordinator was helping her wedding entourage line up for the procession. Some visitors were holding their phones and taking pictures while others were looking in her direction and excitedly waiting for her to step down from the vehicle. Everyone was looking forward to seeing her in her white wedding dress. Seeing all these, Sara heaved a sigh. She took out her phone from her purse and dialed a familiar number. After three buzzes, the call was finally answered. “Hello, sister?” “Violet! Where are you? I have been waiting for you since yesterday!” Sara exclaimed with a hint of irritation as the bridal car driver peaked through the rearview mirror. Sara plastered a faint smile assuring him that everything was fine. Violet heaved a sigh on the other line, making Sarah arch a brow. [I am sorry, my dear twin… Dad asked me to take care of some business deals here in Barcelona, a thing that proved to be a bit difficult to accomplish. However, I was able to close the deals but unfortunately, the unexpected delays made me miss your wed—” “What??! You are not coming?” Sara asked in disbelief. Her voice held a tremor. [I am really sorry, Sara. I tried my best to finish everything in time for your wedding but I failed. Here’s the thing, I’ll make it up to you once I get home, alright?”] Violet apologized. Sarah crept a thin smile on her lips as she examined her nails and responded, “You don’t need to apologize, Violet. I should be the one who should ask for your forgiveness...” Sarah muttered in a low tone that she knew Violet could miss. [What is it again, sis? I’m sorry, but I missed the last thing you said. I think my connection wasn’t stable right now. Can you repeat it?] But before she could say anything, the wedding coordinator tapped on the tinted window advising her that everything was set. Sara cleared her throat, “Violet, I have to go. The wedding is about to start. See you when I see you.” Sara immediately ended the call not bothering to wait for her twin sister’s last words. She opened the car door, wearing a warm facial expression as if she was thrilled with the idea of being wedded to Tyler Kurtzman. But behind that fake smile was the truth that she didn’t want any of this. Who would desire a marriage based solely on a business merger? No one! Sara preferred the freedom of her being single. She did not want this marriage, as it would confine her inside the four corners of the house and would live as a homemaker. For Sara, thinking about it made her sick to her stomach. She was like a bird who was destined to explore the earth, not being jailed to a cage she called “marriage”. The worst part is, that she would be tied to a man she didn’t even love. How cruel! But in the end, she swallowed all these thoughts to herself and continued with her pretensions. Sara had entered the church wearing a simple, overflowing gown. Everyone gasped when they saw how beautiful she was. His groom, Tyler, was over the moon. While walking down the aisle, Sara could perceive how delighted the crowd inside the church was. They clapped their hands, and even the bride and groom's parents shed a tear, except for her. Tyler Kurtzman took the handkerchief out of his pocket. His tears fell while watching his girl walk down the aisle. He had always loved Sara Harris. She was the woman he wanted to be with forever. Though their marriage had some business touches to it, his love for Sara was genuine from the start. The advantages of the business collaboration that were tied to this marriage were just an added bonus. Above anything else, he wanted Sara to be his wife and finally, it happened. "Do you, Tyler Kurtzman, take this woman to be your wife, to live together in matrimony, to love her, honor her, to comfort her, and to keep her in sickness and in health, forsaking all others, for as long as you both shall live?" the Priest asked. Tyler could feel his hand sweating in bullets and how his hands were shaking. "I do," Tyler responded. There was a firmness in his voice on how certain he was to marry the woman in front of him, making Sara, on the other hand, click her tongue secretly. As Tyler gazed down at Sara. Sara just gave him a warm smile. The Priest shifted his eyes to Sarah. "Do you, Sara Harris, take this man to be your wedded husband, to live together in matrimony, to love him, honor him, to comfort him, and to keep him in sickness and in health, forsaking all others, for as long as you both shall live?" Tyler couldn't prevent himself from smiling as he heard Sara's answer. "I-I do…" Sara's voice was quite tense. However, Tyler believes that his bride is nervous. The crowd even misinterpreted Sara's behavior, considering that the bride was quite uneasy, causing her to become anxious. Following the ceremony, the two exchanged rings. Tyler's hand trembled as he placed the ring on Sara's finger and kissed it. After the Priest announced that Tyler could finally kiss his bride, he removed Sara's veil and pulled her out for a kiss, but instead of feeling the warmth, Sara pulled away immediately after their lips touched. "I-I'm Shy…sorry," Sara whispered while palming her mouth. Tyler nodded as he jerked a grin because he found his wife adorable. Well, he couldn’t blame her. They have been dating for three years already but never really make out. After all, it was their first kiss. The wedding ceremony was over. Sara and Tyler were officially married. The night came and it was time for them to consummate their marriage. Tyler had been looking forward to this day, as he vowed to not touch Sara until their wedding night. But instead of spending a passionate first night with his wife, he was left with an already sleeping Sara. Tyler scratched his head, thinking to himself that his wife must have been too tired to have sex with him. “Sara must have stressed herself with the wedding preparations. The sleepless nights must have taken their toll,” he thought to himself. And so, Tyler slept on the bed beside his already sleeping wife. But on the next day, he found himself alone. A note was sitting on the top of his bedside drawer. Beside it was a colored paper which he thought was their marriage contract. Tyler’s heart was banging inside his ribcage. His hands were trembling as he slowly opened the letter. “I’M SORRY, TYLER,” it said. The man was confused. He did not know what that note was for and why his wife was not there beside him. Curiosity knocked at his doorstep as his eyes fixed on the marriage contract beside the mysterious letter. Without thinking twice, he took it and read what it said. All the colors on his face were immediately gone the moment he realized what it said. Tyler wasted no time and quickly dressed up. He took his car keys and drove straight to the Harris’ Residence, arriving there at no time. Mr. Harris welcomed his son-in-law with so much enthusiasm. “Tyler! It was quite a surprise. I thought you were on your way to Hawaii for your honeymoon?” But instead of answering the old man, he asked him a different question instead, “Where is Sara?” Mr. Harris creased his eyebrows. “Why are you looking for your wife here? She should have been on your bed. You just had your wedding yesterday, remember?” Just in time, a familiar woman entered the house. It was Violet, Sara’s twin sister, who had just come back from her trip to Barcelona. Before she would have greeted his dad and brother-in-law, Tyler marched toward her direction and gave her a slap on the face. “You slut! How could you do this to me and Sara?!” Holding her throbbing cheeks, Violet turned to Tyler. “What the hell did you do that for? What did I do this time?” Mr. Harris was equally surprised. “Can someone tell me what the fuck is going on here?” Tyler was flushing red with too much anger. “This daughter of yours deceived us! Her name was stamped on our marriage certificate instead of her twin sister's name! So technically, I was married to her and not to Sara!” Violet’s world turned upside down. She didn’t comprehend what she just heard. “What did you just say?” she asked as she was looking at Tyler’s furious eyes. “Don’t play dumb, bitch! I know it is you who planned to be my substitute wife.”

Chapter 2

“Don’t play dumb, bitch! I know it is you who planned to be my substitute wife.” Violet was perplexed as to why her signature was stamped on the marriage certificate. She took out the marriage certificate from Tyler’s hand to see for herself. Her hand trembled as she reread the signature. She couldn't digest what had just happened. She shook her head and refused what she had just seen. “I didn’t do this. I was out in Barcelona for three months. How could this be?” "Violet! Explain this! Why was your signature there instead of your sister's?" Dominic Harris, who appeared clueless earlier, already got his senses back and finally realized what was going on. Hearing his dad’s voice, Violet panicked. “Dad…I…” Pak! Another slap landed on Violet’s cheek. This time, it came from her dad. “You shameless cunt! How dare you do this to your twin sister! You are a worthless piece of shit!” The words pierced Violet’s heart. All her life, she wanted nothing but her dad’s love. But after this, she was sure that her dream of getting his affection was thrown out of the window already. "Dad, I swear! I will never do such a thing as this! I love my twin sister, and I will never sabotage her own wedding to pull such a scheme like this!" Violet retorted as she gazed at him with pleading eyes. "I can’t believe this is happening," Tyler said. He sat on the sofa while massaging his temple. His hands formed a fist, and his jaw clenched. He was not saying anything but his aura was enough to terrify Violet. "I swear, I never forged my signature there! I just came back from Spain, and this matter welcomed me. Dad, call someone from the Notary Public Services! I'll prove to all of you that I am innocent." Violet said, her arms folded defiantly across her chest. She was beyond scared, but knowing that she was innocent was giving her the necessary comfort she needs Violet was expecting to meet her father's praise as soon as she stepped her foot inside after successfully sealing their needed business deal, but this happened. She needed to talk to Sara. She was the only one who could get her out of this mess! "Where's Sara? I need to talk t—" she was cut off when Tyler spoke, making her stunned as if she was struck by thunder. "How long will you continue to pretend? You stamped your signature on the document, and now you're acting as if you have no idea where Sara is?" Tyler remarked with a tone of disdain. Violet could not help but experience a sharp, heart-piercing agony. “Sara….Sara is gone?” “Well, yeah! As if you didn’t know!” Tyler retorted back. Violet was about to open her mouth to defend herself when the doorbell rang, revealing one of Dominic Harris's friends who could help them to resolve the matter. Once the man strode inside and briefly introduced himself, Tyler gave the certificate to the man. He checked the document and inspected it diligently. Meanwhile, Violet’s heart was beating so fast. She constantly reminded herself that everything would be okay but why did she feel differently? Why did she feel that something bad would happen? All her worries came true when the man opened his mouth. "The signature was authentic. This was not forged." The man even double-checked it so they knew that his words were final. It was Violet Harris’ signature! The woman fell silent as she swallowed the dryness of her throat. How did that happen? His dad shook the man’s hand and guided him to the door. When the man was completely out of the mansion, Dominic Harries turned to his daughter. "D-Dad?" Pak! Violet found herself holding her swollen cheeks as she fell violently to the ground. She glanced at her furious father. Her father laid a hand on her, for the second time, as her eyes misted in tears. When will the day happen that her father will believe her? All of her life, she has only lived behind her sister's shadow. "How dare you deceive us! I never raise you to be a lying bitch!” Dominic Harris exclaimed. His voice was hard as steel. "D-Dad L-Listen to me pleas—" "Where is Sara?" Tyler questioned as he rose to his feet and glared at the woman who had the audacity to deceive him. "I don't know…" Violet murmured, wiping the tears in her eyes. "Just tell us the truth, Violet! Where is your sister?!" Tyler yelled while shaking her shoulders violently. His eyes darkened as though he was prepared to kill someone if he did not find Sara within the day. "I'm sorry, Mr. Kurtzman, but I had no idea why my signature was on the paper. I swear I didn't do anything." "Stop acting like you are sorry because you are not! You were already caught yet you continue to spat your lies!” Violet wanted to shout at the top of her lungs that she was innocent and could not have committed the allegation. How come her signature was on the document, she had not heard Sara's voice since the day of her wedding. “You don’t need to apologize, Violet. I should be the one who should ask for your forgiveness...” 'Wait…Sara said something that day. No... Sara, what have you done?!' Violet seemed astounded upon her realization. Suddenly, a flashback crossed her mind after Sara's wedding day was announced. Sara barged into her room while Violet was preparing for her trip to Spain. She was holding a glass of milk and a document she wanted her to sign when she entered her room. In Sara’s words, it was just a business proposal that Violet needed to sign and approve. She didn’t bother to read and scan the document before tying her signature to it. That was how much she trusted her sister Sara! Big mistake. Violet's mind was clear. She didn't know how she would tell her father about it, that Sara was behind this scheme and not her. But the question she needed to ponder was, Why did Sara do such a thing? She knew that her sister loved her freedom so much, but was that enough to put her in a very difficult situation like this? Why did she have to be the sacrificial lamb for Sara’s happiness?” Violet was baffled as she sat on the couch. Tyler and Dominic Harris were discussing how to address the situation as if Violet didn't exist and they were just concerned with Sara, who was still missing at that moment. A bitter taste filled Violet’s mouth. It had been like this ever since. Sara was the perfect daughter while she remained scorned, unwanted, and despised by their own father. How pathetic her life was! "Tyler, I understand that you wouldn’t wish to remain married to Violet. You could just divorce her, you know. As for Sara, I will ask my men to search for her whereabouts so that we can push through the wedding. This time, I will make sure that no one would come between your union,” Mr. Harris said while throwing Violet a disgusted look. Violet bowed her head. She expected that Tyler would agree immediately because the man was madly in love with Sara, but to Violet's surprise, the man said a totally different response. "No, I'll push this marriage with her," Tyler muttered gruffly, his hand in his pocket as he went with a grim scowl towards the woman. Tyler despised Violet to the core, and Violet could tell it based on his expression. “I need to get married to have my shares in our company. I can stay married to Violet, and once I find Sara, I will dump this liar and move on with my life.” Hearing his son-in-law’s evil plan toward his unwanted daughter, the father plastered a smirk. “As you wish, my boy.” "You," Tyler said, pointing to Violet, "pack your belongings and come with me." Tyler wore a devilish grin as he traversed the space between him and Violet. The woman was terrified. She knew that that smile meant something bad was about to happen to her. "You wish to take on the role of my wife? Fine! But I will make your life a living hell, so much that you would wish you have never been born.”

Chapter 3

For the sixth time, Violet sighed heavily. She brewed the tea that Tyler had told her to prepare minutes ago. Afterward, she promptly transferred it to the transparent glass and stirred it, creating a mild green concoction. As the tea was placed on the tray, Violet paired it with a Ham sandwich for savory. Violet's auburn eyes landed on the burns on her palm while placing the three slices of sandwich to the Tray. Tyler's abrupt changes of mood and directives had made Violet on pins and needles. As a result, she got harmed. Tyler had previously told her to cook, and once she had done so, the man would throw away the food as if it weighed nothing and issue her another demand. Although moving to Tyler's house was against Violet's will, it somehow brought a sense of delight to her heart. Despite the man's hard jeers and disdainful stares, Violet couldn't blame him. After all, she was somehow accountable on behalf of Sara's scheme. Violet soon went to Tyler's office. Tyler was snowed under the heaps of papers on his table when she opened the door. His expression was solemn, so she knocked with the other hand, although the door was slightly lit. "What's that?" Tyler remarked without breaking his gaze on the document in his hand. Violet put the tray on the available space of Tyler's office table and responded, "After you threw away the food I had prepared minutes ago, you told me you wanted a tea and sandwich instead." Upon hearing Violet's response, Tyler put down the papers in his hand on the table and cast a glance of contempt at Violet. Tyler dislikes the way Violet speaks to him. The cunning woman in front of him has a sharp tongue, way too far from Sara. Sara has an angelic voice and a lighter demeanor than Violet Harris. "Oh, Did I say that? Disregard it," Tyler mocked, crossing his arms defiantly. In disbelief, frustration surged on Violet's beautiful face upon hearing Tyler's response. She pinched her palm and questioned, "Pardon?" "Are you deaf? I said, disregard what you prepared and make another," Tyler retorted. He shot Violet a disdainful glare. Violet's heart sank. Ever since she moved into Tyler's house, he never treated her right. Instead, he mocked her as a substitute wife, and true to his words, Tyler made her life miserable by being his maid. In a trance, Violet took the tray and asked, "Why? Is there a problem? You haven't touched the tea yet." In fact, Violet crossed Tyler's mansion to the grocery store to buy the type of tea he requested, and now the man wanted another, turning a blind eye to the untouched food. Tyler stood exuberantly as his patience wore thin. He grabbed the tray in Violet's hand and flung it on the floor, making a resounding impact. Tyler's eyes darkened in rage and snarled, "I don't like the tone of your voice, woman. Obey my orders, or else it will be too late when your father realizes that I already pulled my support in your family's company because of your disobedience? Let's see if your sharp tongue can do something!" Tyler's words made Violet come to a halt as her head drooped. She tried hard not to burst into tears. Lucky for her, Tyler stormed out of the room before her tears began to fall. She crouched on the floor, her shoulder slumped, and gently picked up the debris of shattered glass. Then, with a sigh, Violet reminisced on the first time she gave all of her attention to the man she was secretly in love with. Back then, Violet and Sara were both college students at Primrose University, the finest educational institution in the San Francisco, California. Fortunately, they both attended the same section where Sara was famous. Violet, on the other hand, was the polar opposite of her twin sister. She loves to wear odd clothes and was fond of books books related to business. Moreover, the two daughters of the Harris Family are easily distinguished by anyone around them. Their voices were also distinct; Sara had an angelic and delicate tone, whereas Violet had a gentle manner but constantly seemed distant. One time, Violet met a man named Tyler Kurtzman, who mistook her for her twin while she was in the library. And there, she met the first person who made her heart skip a beat. Since then, Violet has started to adore Tyler from afar. However, when Violet discovers that Tyler is her twin's boyfriend, she bears her young love alone. Tyler adored and cared for Sara as if she were his only salvation in this cruel world. Who wouldn't? Sara was the Light, while Violet was always lurking in the shadows. Sara was the pinnacle of elegance and wit, and something about her made everyone admire her. Her life was ideal; she had their father's love, attention, and devotion, while Violet was unloved, unappreciated, and unwanted. There were times Violet secretly wished that she was Sara. And that time, Violet realized how she and Tyler's world were apart and kept her love for him alone in the dark. Snapping back from her reverie, Violet successfully picked up all the remaining pieces of the broken glass. She stood holding the tray with crumbled slices of the sandwich as she smiled feebly, thinking that her efforts would never be enough to please Tyler. The following days continued, and Violet suffered in silence. Her husband neglected her and treated her like a worthless thing, as if she was invisible. Violet kept wondering why Sara had left this responsibility to her, even in the first place; Sara was the one to blame for why Violet ended up in this mess. There wouldn't be a time that Violet never stopped reaching for Sara's contact number. However, every time she did, it was out of coverage area. Violet knew that Sara just wanted to get away from this situation, but trapping and duping her in this situation was something that made Violet hold a peeve against her sister. In search of an answer, she wanted Sara to explain everything once her sister returned. In the future, she would clean her name, prove her innocence that she was deceived by Sara's ploy all along, and distance herself from anyone as she always does. After a few moments of contemplation, Violet went downstairs to get some water to soothe her thoughts because her mind might explode by thinking about how this happened to her. She then pinched her palm after realizing that the entire mansion felt lonely to live in. Tyler had gone out earlier without a word, and when she asked him where he was heading out, instead of giving her an answer he gave her the cold shoulder. 'Would there be any differences if I was the first person he met?' Violet chuckled in pain as she brushed off her thought. When the evening came, Violet had been agitated because there wasn't any trace of Tyler. Perhaps, he goes outside to find Sara. As she heard a sound from Tyler's car, Violet sprang up from the couch. She opened the door for him, and to her surprise, the man wasn't in good shape. Violet smelt the alcohol from his breath, which indicated that Tyler was intoxicated. She aptly bridged the gap between her and Tyler as she held to his left shoulder and assisted him upstairs. "If you're going to drink liquor till you pass out, make sure you can handle yourself," Violet stated bluntly. Hearing this, Tyler groaned in annoyance. Tyler is a tall man, and Violet's height is deemed ordinary, making it difficult for her to accompany him to his room. When they reached the bedroom, Violet flung Tyler to the bed and took off his shoes. Violet gazed around Tyler's chamber, her mouth slightly parted as she noticed a picture of Sara on the wall. There was also a photo of Sara and Tyler as a couple from college; the most recent one was on their wedding day. Violet frowned as sorrow crept over her face. Sara and Tyler had a good relationship that every girl dreamed of. How could she run away and leave Violet to suffer? She shook her head and went downstairs to fill the water on the oval basin with a white towel while simultaneously preparing coffee, in order for him to sober a little. Violet then hurried inside Tyler's room, almost running upstairs, terrified that Tyler would do something stupid while drunk. As soon as Violet saw Tyler sleeping comfortably in his bed, she breathed a sigh of relief. She then gradually dumped the wet towel on his face with the urge not to wake Tyler up. Violet took this opportunity to stare at the sleeping man tenderly. Suddenly, Violet halted when Tyler's firm grip caught her, which made her wrist swollen, and asked, "What are you up to?" "I'm cleaning you," Violet said flatly. Tyler let go of her and dragged himself out of bed. Based on his movements, he is still intoxicated while Violet swallows the lump forming in her throat. The mood is downbeat, so Violet takes the coffee she had prepared and offers it to Tyler. She cleared her throat and spoke, "I-I prepared a coffee for you to ease you—" "I don't need it. I only need Sara," Tyler blurted without a hint of hesitation. "But Sara wasn't her—" Violet closed her eyes harshly and tensed as Tyler flung the cup of coffee on the floor, causing it to break into fragments. "Yeah, Sara wasn't here, and it was all your fault!" Tyler scowled. Driven by rage, Tyler hit the wall near Violet, which made the woman jolted and shouted, "Stop doing this because Sara was the one I married in front of the altar, and you were just the one who stamped her signature, my wife in the pa—" Before Tyler could finish, Violet's palm landed on his face. The woman's eyes misted with tears as she stepped away and exclaimed, "Have you ever asked me if I wanted this marriage? I never imagined myself marrying someone like you! I might not be Sara, but I am a woman! Fragile, vulnerable, and capable of feeling pain!" Violet wept as she dried her tears like a child who exploded the misery she bore for a long time and lamented, "If you only see me as a cunning woman, at least... Show some respect for me as a human if you can't respect me as Sara's sister!" Violet didn't dare to glance at and left. With uncertainty about where her feet might lead her, Violet felt like her heart had been ripped into pieces as she wished the misery and pain piercing her heart would go away.

Chapter 4

After getting accustomed to Tyler's unjust treatment, Violet woke up from bed and immediately did her morning routine. September's weather was the fairest of all; the temperature was mildly warm as the breeze wandered around the mansion and brought a sense of tranquility. Minutes later, Violet took a bath and wrapped herself in a vintage shirt and jeans. She then dashed downstairs without making any noise, afraid that she might wake Tyler up. It was already five-thirty in the morning, and Tyler usually goes down in the kitchen at six o'clock in his executive attire. After heating the meat that Violet took from the refrigerator, she prepared the ingredients she'll need for the dish she'd cook for breakfast. Violet moved around freely in the kitchen as if she owned it. Cooking had been Violet's leisure time. She loved cooking, one of the skills she could brag about. In fact, Sara disliked the idea of cooking. Back then, their kitchen almost burned down when her twin sister tried to cook. Instead of getting mad at Sara for her impulsive action, Dominic Harris, their father, blamed Violet for being irresponsible in not aiding Sara. After nearly an hour, she placed the grilled meat, bacon, creamy mushroom, brie, and pancetta croissants on the round marble table. "That should suffice," Violet muttered, wiping her sweat on her forehead. Soon, Violet heard Tyler's rough footsteps upstairs, which send shivers down her spine. Each steps, It made Violet's heart missed a beat. She took the tray, and as Tyler saw her, Violet lowered her head and walked passed him. Suddenly, Tyler spoke, which stunned her. "Good Morning," Tyler greeted. With the thought that her ears had played tricks with her, Violet brushed off her bewilderment and uttered, "What did you just say? I think I missed it." Tyler snapped his fingers, which made Violet's eyes blink twice. The man leaned closer and stated, "It seems like you are still drowsy, which made your senses at a loss. I said, Good morning, wife." In a daze, Violet's lips quivered. Tyler called Violet, his wife, and even greeted her. It was the first time he had done that. Since they married and lived on the same roof, Tyler only neglected her and made her suffer. So, Violet reached Tyler's forehead and felt his temperature, thinking he might have a fever and be in a dilemma. "You don't have a fever..." Violet murmured out of the blue. Tyler's brow furrowed as he plucked Violet's forehead, causing Violet to wince as she moved backward. "Of course, I have to work as a beaver in the future to make up for everything," Tyler retorted. Tyler sneered slightly as he sat in the chair, staring at Violet, who was perplexed inches away. Nonetheless, Violet was still clueless about Tyler's unusual gestures. Her mind finds it suspicious, but her heart feels warm upon seeing how Tyler treats her. Perhaps, what had happened yesterday changed Tyler's impression of her. Violet's heart was filled with optimism as she watched Tyler consume the breakfast she had prepared. Violet observed her husband's loving side at that moment, which she thought he could only express to Sara in the past. When Violet chose to be content with Tyler's pleasant mood, silence reigned between the two of them. Violet jolted onto the seat when Tyler held Violet's hand across the Table. "T-Tyler, I'm not Sara..." Violet whispered feebly. When Violet had the thought in her head that perhaps Tyler treated her this sweetly, it was maybe he mistook her again for Sara, just like what had happened back then. Violet saw how Tyler sighed in frustration before responding, "Violet, I know my sudden demeanor confused you, but I wanted to apologize for what I did since we became husband and wife. I am mad. Who wouldn't? I was left in bed after getting married to Sara, and the next morning I found myself married not to her but to you. I was devastated and made you suffer in my anger. I'm sorry, Violet. This time, I wanted to make amends with you and treat you not as a servant but as my wife. Will you forgive me?" Hearing this, Violet's heart leaped in joy as she felt the rising sob from her. Tyler asked forgiveness and even wanted to treat her right as his wife. Who wouldn't be happy? For years of secretly loving him in the dark, she yearned for Tyler to notice that Violet Harris also existed. Tears began to fall from Violet's eyes as she sobbed. "Yes, I forgive you, Tyler," Violet responded. Stunned, Tyler averted his gaze when he saw Violet's smiling face with tears in her eyes and shifted his eyes to his wristwatch. He said, "Wait here, I have a gift for you." Violet froze upon hearing Tyler's words. She was about to speak, but Tyler dashed upstairs, leaving her unsaid words. While waiting for Tyler, Violet felt her heart's surge of excitement and instantaneous vibration. Tyler came back to the Table with a long box in his hand. The box was wrapped with red ribbon and cute laces. He handed it to Violet and said, "I hope you'll like that." Violet beamed warmly as she opened the gift, overjoyed. She looked at Tyler, taken aback by what she had seen inside the present. It was a crimson dress. The clothing was too provocative for her thing. Violet cleared her throat as Tyler interjected, "I assumed the dress didn't meet your expectations. I'm sorry, I should have asked you first about your tast—" "No, I-I'm just surprised...besides, it was the first gift I had received from you, so rest assured, I'll wear this," Violet responded, forcing a faint smile. "Really? Then, would you cook dinner later? Wear the dress, and let's have our first date at home." At that moment, the tears that Violet had suppressed fell down once more as she spoke, "Sure! I'll wait for you." Violet agreed instantly. Tyler's lips twitched as he stood up. "Everything was settled. I'm looking forward to our first date tonight." As soon as Tyler turned his back and left, Violet's legs weakened as she slumped on the floor with her cheeks flushed red. A glint of hope hinted in her eyes in silence because, for the first time, Tyler didn't mistook her for Sara and promised to treat her right. Meanwhile, A refined and formidable man was seated inside a luxurious plane to which only elites had access. Inside the First Class, with his slender fingers, he reached for his wallet and took a picture of the most beautiful woman in his eyes. It has been years since she left her with their pinky promise, but each night he was away from her, their memories hunt him. The man had to move abroad to study and left the woman he loved with no choice because he knew that if their fate were intertwined, their paths would definitely cross in the future. Everyone might preach to her the opposite of her sister, but she stands out the most in his eyes. Back then, he couldn't fight for their love, but now, he was ready to win her back and deliver the world upon her feet because she deserved it. As his hazelnut eyes examined the woman's face, he caressed the picture using his thumb lovingly and whispered, "The long wait is over, Violet. I returned as I promised, and I would never leave again."

Chapter 5

Autumn's warm breath wafted around, giving a cozy and soothing atmosphere at midday. The determined Violet placed all the ingredients she needed for the meals she'd cook. Afterwards, the kitchen door opened, revealing Mother Lily, a middle-aged woman who had been Violet's nanny since she was a child. Mother Lily was holding a basket filled with vegetables as she strode toward Violet. Earlier, Violet asked her nanny over the phone to lend her a hand with the dishes Violet was planning to cook for dinner. Violet then beamed as warm as the weather as she took the basket that Mother Lily had handed her and said, "Thank you, nanny, for the assistance. The kitchen would be a mess without you. Besides, I wanted this dinner date to be memorable since it was the first time Tyler asked me for this." Mother Lily's eyes flashed a hint of apprehension, she had witnessed how Violet and Sara bloomed over the years. She also knows the difference between the two. Sara may appear elegant and proper on the outside, but she is wild on the inside, while Violet seems to be misunderstood by her appearance. She is fragile and has a good heart inside. "I've witnessed how you love that child secretly over the years. You've been misunderstood by your iron-fisted father, and yet, you remained silent. I don't want you to suffer again, Violet. Love, come and go, it was a feeling of warmth which brought immense happiness, but it can also make someone a fool." The middle-aged woman said, washing the vegetable in the sink. "I will always keep that in mind, Nanny Lily. I assure you, Tyler had changed. We reconciled, and he promised to treat me better in the future." Violet replied, a flush rising into her cheeks. From the view of Mother Lily, she could picture Violet with joy and excitement. Seeing Violet in that state made the old woman tease her more. "Do you still remember when you were in college? You used to read novels with love after-marriage tropes. It seemed like fictitious scenarios could also happen in reality." "Nanny Lily!" Violet hissed, suppressing the creeping smile on her lips, and added, "Can you check Valery in the garden to see if the decoration went well?" Vallery Williams is a well-known event organizer from Bay City, her styles were superb, and even the Grandest wedding of the Duchess in England was styled and organized by her. Good Riddance, Vallery was Violet's friend, and even though the event was rushed and short of notice, Vallery still did Violet a favor. Before moving, Mother Lily enveloped Violet in an embrace and whispered, "I wish for your happiness Violet. Finally, that child sees you as a woman, not someone's replica." Hearing this, a smile crinkled in Violet's mouth as she let go of Mother Lily and proceeded to cook. It took her a couple of hours, with her great effort, to cook dishes such as Austrian Wiener, lohikeitto, a full plate of croissants, Irish stew, sarmale, and pierogi. Violet then paused for breath and wiped the sweat on her forehead. Violet huffed, her lips sewn into a grimace when her phone buzzed. She received a message from Tyler, which made her heart in glee. Tyler: [See you tonight at seven. I can't wait to see how beautiful my wife will be.] A few seconds later, Nanny Lily went inside and helped Violet to set up the food on the long table in the garden. When Valery noticed how busy her friend was, she volunteered to help, which Violet gladly accepted. When dusk came, Vallery told Violet she'd give Mother Lily a ride. Mother Lily had to go home early since she had a grandchild to care for, while Vallery had other errands to attend to. Before bidding farewell to the two, Violet gave them a souvenir along with the Tupper wares filled with the dishes she had cooked earlier. "Good luck on your date, Violet!" Vallery and Mother Lily said in unison, which made Violet chuckle. "Drive safely!" Violet waved as she watched the Car of Vallery drive away. As Violet entered the mansion, nervousness surged through her heart at that moment. She went upstairs to her room and took a bath. Afterward, she wore the dress Tyler had given her and gazed at her reflection in the Vanity mirror. Violet expressed discomfort as she moved a little; the dress hung loose on her body as though one movement would reveal her soul. As a matter of fact, Violet didn't fancy the dress. It had a revealing neckline and was a bit tight. It's too short and proactive. She would have thrown it away if Tyler hadn't given it to her. Suddenly, sadness crept on her beautiful face when Violet remembered Sara's preference for this kind of outfit. Tyler might have assumed that they loved the same things because they were twins, which he thought was factually inaccurate. "These thoughts continued to haunt me. Let alone the negativities, It was a memorable day for me. I should not have thought of something like this, "Violet stated, her voice almost screaming with fear. She brushed those negative thoughts aside and didn't waste time applying makeup to enhance her complexion. While applying red lipstick to her cherry lips, Violet's gaze fell on her round glasses, and she smiled faintly. If Tyler saw her without glasses, would he be happy, or would he mistook her for Sara? A lot of questions lingered in Violet's mind as she looked at herself in front of the Vanity Mirror. The woman in front of her was far from her old features. Without glasses, she could almost see her and Sara's resemblance. No wonder why the people around them mistook her for Sara. As darkness flickered across the ground, the fairy lights in the garden had been lit. Violet was standing near the window on the second floor when she heard a horn of a car outside. Her heart throbbed inside her chest with the thought Tyler would see her in red dress. However, before she took a step forward, she felt something ominous. It was indeed a sinking feeling.

Chapter 6

Hearing that Tyler had arrived, Violet's heart thumped as a quiver surged through her body. She went down in fidgets as she sprinted in the garden through the backdoor. Violet then wandered her eyes around and crept a proud smile, thinking about the efforts that Valery and Mother Lily put into making everything perfectly settled. Violet sent a message to Tyler, telling him to meet her in the garden, with a grin on her solemn face. [Meet me in the garden. I am wearing the dress you gave me.] Moments later, Violet's expectation of Tyler's response made her somehow gauche. Without hesitation, she shook her head and brushed off the jittery feeling that had bothered her. 'Perhaps he read it but was too thrilled to respond.' Violet pondered. A few seconds later, Violet heard clamant footsteps. Closer by closer, it made her heart beats rapidly as if she was breathless. But when the footsteps approached her, Violet's eyes dilated when she saw Tyler stood before her. He was not alone. Behind him, there were two other guys and one woman who wore the same dress as hers, which made her brow furrowed and alarmed. At that moment, Confusion dominated Violet's face. Tyler had previously maintained a subtle manner, but tonight he was accompanied by his acquaintances and even held a woman in his arms in front of his wife. Did he show her his compassionate side to deceive her? "Tyler, What's the meaning of this?" Violet asked, though, in her heart, she already knew the answer. Instead of responding, Tyler grabbed the woman next to him. He wrapped his arms around her waist and sensually licked her neck. "Violet, you're so naive. Do you believe that a person can change overnight? Don't play dumb after playing with fire." Tyler then turned to face the woman he had brought with him. The woman with blond hair mocked with a coquettish giggle, "Your wife, seems agitated, honey. What to do?" "Don't mind her. She wasn't my wife. She's the maid who will serve us today," Tyler reckoned, his voice making Violet's spine stiffen with pain. The next thing Violet knew, her body trembled as tears started to crawl from her eyes as she witnessed how the man he had secretly loved for ages kissed the woman in his arms without removing his gaze from her. Violet's nerves rippled low down in her stomach as she defended her feelings for the first time, "I prepared everything...I prepared everything because I thought you had changed! I couldn't believe you could do such a thing!" Tyler chuckled bitterly, followed by his friend's peel of laughter, which made Violet shrink to the ground as if she was just a mere speck of dust in front of their eyes. "Man, you are right. Your wife was foolish to fall for such cheap manipulation. Like a devoted dog to its master, this ignorant slut seemed to believe whatever you said to her!" One of Tyler's friends commented. Tyler gazed at Violet and smirked before saying, "Yeah. I told you, wasn't I? She was dumb enough to believe that I would change in a day. She really didn't have a brain." With contempt, Tyler stepped forward, leaned on the weeping face of Violet, and grabbed her on her cheeks. "How stupid you are, Violet. Do you actually believe that I would forget everything you did to me? Hell no! You are not what I asked for. In this life, Sara would be the only one suited for me. Even if you wear a nice dress, you are only a white lotus — delicate outside but rotten inside. I will never love someone like you. You disgust me!" The wind was quite cold as if it sent Violet a tremor. Tyler's words rang in Violet's ears, and she felt a thousand needles pierce her heart. She may be messy, but she never mistreated him as her husband. Even though he pushed her away, her love drove her patience to stay with him. But this time was different. The picture of Tyler's gentle smile, words, gestures, and how he called her wife in Violet's mind was shattered as her heart had been torn. Those gestures that swayed her heart and Tyler's words were all made-up lies. Violet eventually realized what was going on. Everything was planned by Tyler, and he set her up. He duped her with his words sufficed with lies and deception.

Chapter 7

"What took you so long?" Tyler asked, his tone laced with disgust. Violet's shoulder slumped as Tyker's remark rang in her ear. She handed the expensive wine to one of Tyler's friends, Rustom, who gratefully took it. The man thanked them and went to see their friend in eyeglasses at the Billiard Table. "I'm sorry, I had trouble finding the key to the winery, so it took me a bit to find it," Violet explained, struggling to breathe. Violet stiffened when she met Tyler's deep and ironic eyes, prompting her secretly pinched her palm with the thought that she might infuriate him. Tyler stood from his seat, let go of the woman on his lap, and spat, "Oh, that makes sense. Go and serve us the food you cooked and pour our glasses with wine." Along the way to the long table, Violet moved forward as she lost her balance when someone blocked her strides. She fell to the ground and the crashing sounds of the bottle of wine reverberated. Due to Violet's reflexes, she escaped the sharp edges and fell on the floor like a deflated balloon. Baffled, Violet could feel that her blood had been sucked out of her body, and before she could explain herself, a coquettish complaint of the blond woman echoed in the corners. "Tyler, she purposefully poured wine over my dress!" exclaimed the woman, clinging to Tyler's arms. "I didn't..." Violet whispered, her lips quivering. She wanted to defend herself, open her mouth, and speak, but would they listen to her? Did someone ever listen to her when she was wronged? In the eyes of the people who only saw her as Sara's imitation? At that moment, Violet's knees trembled when Tyler approached her, his eyes dimmed in anger and his jaw tightened as he muttered sternly, "Clean it, Violet." Apparently, Violet was like a weak, soft sheep that was bullied. She nodded in response before she left the garden and took a rug from the kitchen. When she had the rug, she rushed back to the garden and wiped the floor, afraid of infuriating Tyler. As she silently wiped the wine on the floor and took the broken shards of the bottle, shame crawled across her face. Violet felt sorry for herself as she cleaned the floor. How could she have believed Tyler's white lies? She was deluded by the thought that Tyler had changed a little and recognized her for who she profoundly was. 'How foolish you are, Violet. You are wrong.' Violet thought of herself. The date night was planned by Tyler, after all. That's his retribution for the crime she'd done. He wanted to humiliate her in front of his friends, and that was something evil that Violet never thought Tyler could do to her. Hours later, the night was young, and the garden was filled with laughter from drinkers. Violet stood silently on the side near the swimming pool, where she could see the bright moon reflected in the crystal clear water. She couldn't take Tyler's humiliation and treatment of her like a maid any longer. She wanted to end this horrible night that had imprinted in her memory. Violet was about to turn her back and walk away from the place when a rough hand seized her wrist forcefully. "Where do you think you are going? You are our servant tonight. Come on, serve me," said the man wearing eyeglasses. Violet could tell he was drunk because of his slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. Fear surged through Violet's beautiful face when the man's cold finger ran through her skin. "Let me go, you may be Tyler's friend, but you can't disrespect me!" Like a hungry wolf aiming for his prey, the intoxicated man licked his lips as he reeked his gaze on Violet's body. Violet drew her arms back, and as she moved forward, Rustom smirked and trapped her from behind. "No...please, you can't!" Violet begged, her tears welling up in her eyes. "Cain, are you sure about this? She seemed didn't like this." Rustom asked the man who wore glasses. "Tyler didn't hold value on her. Did you forget? This woman tricked him." Cain retorted as he pinned Violet to the ground. Violet gazed at Rustom as if she was begging him to help her, but Rustom gritted his lower lip and averted his gaze. Cain's grasp tightened as Violet struggled, and he exclaimed, "I can't believe that this innocent-looking angel was really a slut. I mean, look at her. She was beautiful...and hot." Violet's gaze soon turned to Tyler and the blond woman beside him. Rather than assisting her, he sneered and reacted to Cain's statement. "Don't be duped; she was a wolf in sheep's clothing, and I was once deceived by her angelic charm." Hearing this from the man she loved, Violet felt daggers piercing her heart. Violet exerted all her remaining strength to push Cain away, but when she heard Tyler speak again, it made her brittle. "You seemed to have a thing for my scum wife, Cain," Tyler observed. Cain stroked Violet's hair, sending chills down her spine. He sniffed it like a madman and concluded, "If I say, I do. She was indeed my type. Would it be a problem?" As the sinful words from Cain rang in Violet's ears, she gasped for breath and hoped Tyler had pitied her and refused to throw her into his friend's arms, but when Tyler spoke, Violet felt as if her world had crumpled and her heart had been torn. Driven by liquor, Tyler's lips pursed, and he responded, "No. If you want, you can taste her. I don't mind. She was a slut anyway. I am sure she's gonna like it." Upon hearing his friend's approval, Cain shouted excitedly and began kissing Violet's neck while massaging Violet's boobs. Violet screamed and cried, begging Tyler to help her, but he remained unmoved. "Please stop! Tyler, please! I don't want this!" Violet shouted. Her voice was almost choking. On the other hand, Rustom peered at Tyler and shook his head. He then tapped his shoulder and spoke, "I hope you won't regret this in the future. I'm leaving, have fun." Tyler didn't take Rustom's word by heart. He glanced at Violet indifferently while holding a glass of wine that Violet had poured earlier. When Violet's dress was ripped, she felt horror, and the devil in front of her did nothing to stop Cain from harassing her. Devoured by agitation, the blonde woman trembled and shouted, "She may deceive you, but look how horrible her state was! She's still your wife, and you treated her like worthless trash. I'm leaving. I didn't sign for this. This is wrong!" "Please, I don't like this...let me go..." Violet lamented, almost half-naked. When Tyler noticed Violet tremble as her eyes became leaden, he intervened and beat Cain to the ground. The liquor in his system had been drained from his body. "Damn it! Leave!" Tyler growled, his eyes flashing red. Cain, who wiped the blood from the side of his lips, finally came to his senses and saw how Violet was on the ground. She was shaking while hugging her body. "S-Sh*t!" Cain panicked. The man even tumbled on his first attempt to stand up and crawled away. Guilt overcame Tyler's senses at that moment, he immediately took off his clothes, and when he was about to stride toward Violet, the woman shouted and wailed. "Are you happy now? You had a great show, didn't you? Your wife got harassed in front of you! I've had enough...please leave me alone!" Violet hollered. Her eyes were red and almost swollen. "Violet...D*mn it!" Tyler didn't know what to do. He was confused. He should be happy that Violet suffered, but why did he feel the unsettled feeling of guilt in his heart and drove him to think that he had crossed the line? Tyler shook his head as he moved backward with his hands balled in a fist and left the garden to drive away. Meanwhile, Violet couldn't stop the silent tears rolling down her cheeks. The humiliation she had tonight was too much. She almost got raped, and her husband left her to be damned and humiliated.

Chapter 8

It was a raining cats and dogs in the Kurtzman Mansion, and Violet remained unmoved in her bed. She only stayed in bed and secluded herself in her room since the incident happened. Also, Violet tried her best to recover from the nightmare that kept on hunting her even in her dreams. Whenever Violet remembered that horrible situation, she could still remember how Tyler's friend harassed her. And there wasn't a time when she felt like she wasn't secure in this empty space anymore. In fact, Violet was still in a daze about how Tyler could do such things and to what extent of anger he held for her. He threw her to his friend, who almost ravaged her defenselessly. As soon as Violet's stomach grumbled in hunger, she heaved a sigh and, without a choice, got up from the bed that brought comfort to her and the pillows that wiped her tears when she cried at night. Before heading downstairs, Violet ensured that the time was already eight in the morning. Since the incident happened, Violet avoided crossing paths with Tyler as much as possible. She never left her room, knowing that Tyler was inside the house. When she knew he was out, that was the only time she would go out of her room to do her stuff. Sometimes Tyler would knock on her door and brought breakfast to console her. However, Violet didn't need Tyler's sympathy by bringing food that was against his will. Soon after, Violet stormed downstairs to cook something and ease her hunger. Unexpectedly, Violet stopped from her track when she saw Tyler in the living room; he was holding paper in his hand with his reading glasses on. Violet might have leaped in adoration for Tyler and savored this opportunity to watch him if the incident hadn't happened, but the damage had been done and she was a fool to yearned for his affection. When Tyler saw Violet, he rushed to her. "Are you hungry? Come, I cooked breakfast." Tyler's hand was about to tongue Violet, but she backed away as if scared of being scorched by his touch. "I can manage," Violet responded, her voice tinged with contempt. Tyler watched Violet while sufficing her plate. He couldn't blame her for acting distant from him. Ever since Violet secluded herself in the room, something changed. Before, Violet made him breakfast and gave her a warm smile similar to Sara's. In fact, when Violet gave him the cold shoulder, that was the first time he felt troubled and uneasy. Tyler chose to be silent while they were eating breakfast. He decided to be quiet, although Violet's silence bothered him. After a few moments of silence, Violet stood up and didn't glance at Tyler. "Where are you going? You just got down for minutes," Tyler stated. "I'm done eating. Therefore I'll be the first to leave," Violet responded bluntly. "But you only—" Violet intervened, leaving Tyler's remarks unspoken. "I'll feel better if I'm in my room." After saying this, Violet left with her heavy footsteps. After that encounter, Violet became more distant from Tyler. She'd rather starve herself than see the man's face, which only infuriated her. Tyler should be happy because she's doing him a favor. Since he hated her to the core, he must have been having fun rather than pestering her. One day, Violet woke up on the wrong side of the bed when she heard Tyler knocked outside the door. She let alone the noise and buried herself with pillows in her ears, but Tyler was too persistent. Seconds later, Tyler spoke outside, saying," Violet, I know you hated me but don't let the guest wait for you downstairs." Violet immediately jolted and pushed herself up, and changed her clothes. She was confused about who that person might be, and when she thought that maybe Sara would send a person to tell her the woman's address, she didn't waste time and got down. "Aunt Leila?" Violet asked in surprise. Seeing her Aunt for years made her delighted. The woman was her deceased mother's best friend and beloved mother figure. When their mother died from cancer, her Aunt Leila became her second mother, aside from Nanny Lily. Back then, taking care of Violet and Sara was Leila's promise she pledged to her best friend's grave. Unfortunately, when she got married, she lived outside the country and continued having social communication with Violet. It had been years ever since they saw each other in the flesh. The two embraced each other as if they were filling the years they had been apart. Violet was the first to break the embrace and assist Aunt Leila to sit on the couch. Soon, Tyler appeared while holding a tray of Juice and a sandwich from the kitchen. Aunt Leila teased her, saying, 'Is he the man you've been eyeing for years? Violet didn't have a choice because if she had lied, her Aunt Leila could easily have known it. So, Violet nodded in response, which made Aunt Leila cough fakely, and helped Tyler to place the food on the glass table near them. "You are My Sweet Violet's husband? You seemed familiar to me. Hmph," Aunt Leila stated. Tyler cleared his throat, put his left hand in his pocket, and responded, "It seemed like the Madame didn't remember me. I am Sara's Lo—" "You are the young love!" Aunt Leila exclaimed. She leaned in closer and added, "Did you ever receive a love letter in college? It was written on a blue piece of paper." Tyler paused for a while to consider Aunt Leila's question. He may have gotten a hundred letters during college, but one letter stood out. "Yes, I remember it," Tyler answered immediately. Meanwhile, Violet glared at her Aunt Leila because she couldn't have such embarrassment. Instead of zipping her mouth, Aunt Leila even spat out some content of the paper that Violet wrote for Tyler back then. "Do you still remember this sentence? I had many dreams and fantasies. If I told you those dreams, would you look at me? People may taunt your existence and see you as a person. But for me, you are my whole world. And if there's another lifetime, I only love you even though I am only in shadows." Aunt Leila asked, pinching Violet secretly. Upon hearing Aunt Leila's words, Tyler's eyes widened. He could clearly remember those words even though this was the second time he had heard them as if they had been etched in his mind for a long time. "Yes! I could still remember those sentences. However, I have Sar—" Tyler blinked again as his words were interrupted for the second time. Instead of being delighted by Auntie Leila's intervention in Tyler's response, she smiled faintly because no matter what, Sara would always be in Tyler's heart. "By the way, My Sweet girl, yesterday I bought a property near a lovely lake. This Auntie felt bad for not giving you a marriage gift. Man and wife need a pleasant place for their honeymoon. How about having a moment with your husband, there? Is that alright with you, son-in-law?" In a trance, Violet knew Tyler would be the first to object to Aunt Leila's offer because she had just temporarily replaced Sapphire. Besides, Sara was the only person Tyler could consider his wife in this world. Before Violet could refuse, Tyler stood up and responded, which stunned her. "There's a saying that you shouldn't turn down someone's kindness. I'm fine with it, Aunt Leila. We'll surely come."

Chapter 9

Under the broad daylight, Violet sat in the shotgun seat of Tyler's BMW. As what they'd promised, Tyler and Violet would visit Aunt Leila's house to meet the McGregor family. After Tyler checked the vehicle's side mirror, he soon started the engine. The ride to Stone Lake would take a couple of hours, so before they departed, Violet ensured that their things were properly arranged. As Violet noticed that Tyler had no plan of talking with her, she deliberately put her elbow on the window and watched the places they passed. A few minutes later, Violet jerked in her seat when Tyler broke the silence, saying, "I know you still harbor hostility over what happened that night, but I didn't want to put my image at stake. We should be careful with our actions and act like a married couple to avoid public suspicion. My men and your father were already tracking your sister's whereabouts, so in the meantime, we have to make this marriage look somehow real." Hearing this, Violet brushed off the discomfort that lingered in her heart and responded, "I understand." By agreeing to Tyler's terms, Violet didn't want her Aunt Leila to suspect her and find the truth. The whole ride was quiet and gloomy. Violet diverted her attention away from the anguish in her heart by peeking out the window. When they arrived, Tyler parked the car suavely, and Violet couldn't help but swallow her nervousness as soon as they reached the lake. Soon, she set foot outside and was startled when Tyler took her hand and dragged her toward Aunt Leila. Aunt Leila was wearing a bohemian summer dress in her forties. She stood outside the rest house with anticipation upon their arrival. "My sweet Violet!" Aunt Leila remarked and gave Violet a warm embrace. As Aunt Leila broke the hug, the woman smiled gently and said, "I knew you'd come. You didn't want this Aunt to get mad, right?" Violet laughed as she nodded. Tyler brought their language upstairs with the help of the husband of her Aunt Leila. Aunt Leila's forehead creased as she asked Violet, "By the way, How's Sapphire? I hadn't heard any news about her. Did the brat create another trouble making your father detest you?" Violet fidgeted, nervously biting her lower lip as she remembered she wasn't prepared to make excuses for her Aunt if she enquired about Sara's whereabouts. She was about to speak when her Aunt spoke again, "Forget it. I'm sure she was having fun where she was right now. After all, that child loved to be young, wild, and free." The woman placed her palm on Violet's cheeks, "Sweetie, You really look like Viviene, so beautiful, and your Youngblood shows how such an angel like you possessed a brave heart." After a few words with Aunt Leila, they entered the cozy rest house. Aunt Leila told her where Tyler was and where their room was located. When Violet heard that she and Tyler would share the same bed, Violet was stunned. Violet sighed in relief when she stormed inside the room without Tyler's traces. It seemed like Tyler had gone outside, or perhaps the man hated the fact that they'd sleep in one bed and couldn't stand her presence. Besides, Violet was aware that Tyler despised her existence to the core. Despite the exhaustion from the long ride, Violet still managed to arrange her clothes in the cabin and decided to take a bath. When she was done, Violet smiled upon seeing her reflection in the human-size mirror attached to the wall. She let her wavy hair fall and applied light makeup that defined how she got her beauty from her mother. Previously, Aunt Leila told her that she was the one who took after her mother's beauty, unlike Sara, who got some features from their father. Violet snapped back from her reverie when the door opened, revealing Tyler wearing a black and white striped polo shirt, pairing it with denim jeans and a pair of white sneakers. His eyes landed on Violet's face down to her body. "Let's go," Tyler said, devoid of emotion, and left the room. When the two of them went downstairs, their hands were intertwined on purpose. Violet felt her heart warm for a short time until they met the McGregor family in the small garden near the lake. The salt air in the midday welcomed them. When Tyler attended to Henry McGregor on the rattan chair, he was the first to let go of Violet's hand. Later, Violet smiled faintly and pushed herself to move forward as she strode towards Aunt Leila's twins, who were playing under the oak tree. "Margaret! Henry!" The twins at first looked on their sides with their brows furrowed until Violet giggled, which caught the twins' attention. The two rushed up from their seats in a hurry and shrieked in unison, "Vie! Vie! It's Vie!" Margaret ran into Violet's arms as Henry wrapped his arms around her waist. "It's been a long time, twins! I last saw you two when you were five years old, and now look at you two. You've both grown so fast!" Margaret scoffed and expressed, "Vie, we're now seven! Does this mean I'm allowed to have a crush?" Violet frowned. She messed with Margaret's hair and stated, "You are too young, Margaret. You have to reach the age of fifteen before you have your first crush!" "But Vie, Garet already had a crush on one of our classmates at school," Henry interjected. "Y-you! You promised me you won't tell anyone!" Margaret whined to her twin. Henry hid behind Violet's back, stuck his tongue, and reasoned, "But it's Vie! She's our accomplice!" In this situation, when kids fight, it would take a while before the argument subsided. Violet was about to speak when Aunt Leila called her. "Violet, come over and help me grill the meat!" "I'm coming!" Violet shouted as she glanced at the two and ruffled the twin's hair. "Henry, be good. Don't make fun of your sister. I'll be back, alright?" Violet stated as she walked in with graceful strides, leaving the two. Meanwhile, Tyler's brow furrowed when he searched for Violet, but the woman was nowhere to be found. He then sat upright when Mr. McGregor spoke, "You have a good wife, Mr. Kurtzman. I've known that child ever since my twins were born. My wife always informed me that after her mother's death, Violet endured a huge sacrifice. She became the family's backbone and yet always hidden. Needless to say, she may seem warm and carefree outside but fragile like a brittle doll inside." Tyler wanted to laugh at Henry's words. From his viewpoint, Violet was silver-tongued for manipulating the people around her. A woman who always holds aces in her hand, Vicious and poisonous. As Tyler was about to speak, two tiny voices approached them and stared at him. "Daddy! Mom kidnapped Vie from us!" cried the little boy who jumped on Mr. McGregor's lap. "Vie said it would only take a few minutes, but it had already been nearly half an hour!" The little girl with twin braids in her hair duly seconded. "Oh, It seemed like Violet helped your mother to prepare our lunch. Bear your misery for Vie, my little ones. Why don't you play with Vie's husband, then?" Mr. McGregor suggested. "You are Vie's husband?! I am Margaret, and this is my twin, Henry!" Margaret introduced as she pointed at Henry, who seemed aloof. Tyler didn't know what pushed him to nod his head and play with the two. While playing flying saucer with the two, his eyes shifted near the transparent window of a mini kitchen. And there, Tyler saw Violet, who was laughing. That was the first time he saw his wife in that state, which Tyler immediately brushed off from his mind and cursed silently. A few hours later, Violet and Aunt Leila had prepared the food for lunch. Violet was busy plating the croissants and refreshments for dessert when Aunt Leila shouldered her and pointed to Tyler from a distance, who was playing with Margaret and Henry. "Look at him. Earlier, my Henry seemed aloof with him, but they were now on good terms. It seemed like my prayer worked to break the ties between him and Sara way back then." Aunt Leila teased while pouring the lemon tea into the empty glasses. As Violet's eyes transfixed on Tyler, sadness crept into her eyes, thinking that Tyler never expressed those emotions when he was with her. Seeing him having fun made Violet recall how she had secretly admired him since time immemorial. It had been so long since Tyler laughed like that, which is one of the reasons Violet loved him so deeply and made her silently hope that someday he would notice her. They shared a meal filled with laughter and comfort. Being with McGregor made Violet teary-eyed. She used to eat alone without the presence of others. At least, even though this moment was only a borrowed memory, she somehow found the hiraeth that she had yearned for a long time. When the night came, Violet couldn't suppress the happiness in her heart. She wanted to thank Tyler for this memorable day and for accompanying her. She saw Tyler, who was already on the bed while reading something on his phone. Maybe it was the report of the investigator that he hired regarding Sara's whereabouts. Violet sat on the edge of the bed that caught Tyler's attention and muttered," Thank you for accompanying me and lending me your time." ""Violet, don't flatter yourself. That wasn't something I did for you. Aunt Leila was Sara's nanny too. I love Sara, and even though I hate being with you, I must act as a loving husband even if it disgusts me." Tyler reckoned, deadpan. At a loss, Violet fell silent for a moment after hearing those words. She thought somehow Tyler might have treated her a little better, but her expectations had been shattered. Violet smiled bitterly and rose up, suppressing the lump in her throat. "I forgot. Aunt Leila told me to meet her in the evening." After saying this, Violet didn't let Tyler utter his response and stormed outside the room. When she got outside their room, she rushed outside under the crestfallen sky. The tears that Violet had been suppressing gradually fell down her cheeks. Stupid of her to think he would do such a thing for her sake? Of course, he will do it for Sara, and how dare she believe that they'll have good company with each other. She's just a substitute bride; once Sara returns, she will be the outcast again. Violet wished she could look at him without feeling this love that had been bringing endless pain in her heart. She loved him for too long, but nothing changed. Because no matter what she did, she'd never had a chance to be loved by him. Soon, the stars slowly appeared in the night sky, which illuminated the place as the bodies of the lake's water became crystal clear. Little did Violet know, A man from her past appeared from behind. At last, his search for the woman he had left for years ended. "You were crying during my departure the last time we saw each other, and now I find you crying again? Come on, Violet, I didn't anticipated you to greet me with tears in your eyes." said the man as he extended his hand, holding a handkerchief. Violet's forehead creased as her eyes widened, she knew that voice. She slowly raised her head and stiffened when she saw the man she would never forget, the pinky promise they made and how he once made her heart beat in love.
