He even stole my father’s life-saving medicine to make scented candles for her, which caused the death of my only relative. After discovering the truth, I didn't hesitate to turn around and leave. But Domine, who harbored a deep hatred for me, completely broke down. He knelt in the snow for three days and three nights, begging me to look at him just one more time. Chapter 1 I’ve been with Domine for three years. He claimed to be a Delta warrior from the neighboring Moonlight Pack. I thought we were a match made in heaven. Except in bed. He always made me turn my back to him. He never let me make a sound. It felt like he was just carrying out a mission. I wanted him to mark me—even just a small bite—but he always refused. "Halen, you’re the Head Healer," he’d say. "I can’t mark you in private. I want to give you a formal Mating Ceremony so the entire pack can witness it." I believed him. But when I went to the house I bought with my own savings—our future home—carrying a strengthening potion I’d developed for him, I found him in our bed with another woman. Two bodies were tangled together. Domine was thrusting between her legs like a dog in heat. "Domine… it’s too deep… ah! No… not there…" Ella’s voice was shaky. "Can't take it? Well, you're going to take it anyway!" Domine bit her neck—a place he never touched on me—and gave another hard shove. "You owe me this. For three years, every time I touched her, I had to close my eyes and picture you just to get hard. She’s like a corpse." "But… Domine… I’m not worthy…" Ella gasped, her hands clutching his muscular back. "The medicine Halen gave me… it killed my wolf… I’m useless… I don't deserve to be your Luna… I’ll only hold you back…" Hearing my name, Domine paused for a second before becoming even more feral. "Don't mention that bitch!" Domine kissed away her tears tenderly. The truth was, I saved Ella! She was the one who trespassed into the forbidden zone and ate poisonous fruit. I fought like hell just to keep her alive! I was just about to rush in and explain the truth. Someone stopped me, snapping a wolfsbane-infused suppressor onto my wrist. "Let me go! Domine is being lied to!" I thrashed. "I'm the one who—" The man kicked my hand away in disgust. "How dare you address our Alpha by his name." Alpha? Domine? "Domine Ashford is the great Alpha of our Moonlight Pack, and I am Lucas, his Gamma." His words hit me like a sledgehammer. "What Alpha?" I stared at him. "Domine is just a Delta warrior!" "Wake up, Halen," Lucas sneered, dragging me away. "The Alpha has been posing as an ordinary Delta for three years just to get close to you and get revenge for Ella." My mind went blank. Alpha? Revenge? Impossible. Three years ago, I found a badly wounded Domine while on border patrol. He had silver burns, and his wounds were rotting. It took me three days to pull him back from the brink of death. The first thing he said when he woke up was, "You saved my life." A week later, he told me, "Halen, I want to be with you." I thought it was fate. I thought the Moon Goddess had answered my prayers and given me a mate. And now Someone was telling me it was all a calculated lie? "No… that can't be…" I struggled, my nails digging into my palms. "He was so good to me… he said he’d give me a ceremony…" "A ceremony?" Lucas laughed. "He was talking about his Mating Ceremony with Ella! The invitations went out three days ago. The whole Moonlight pack knows. But that has nothing to do with you!" He dragged me to the basement, slammed me onto a surgical table, and chained my limbs with silver. "What are you doing?!" I screamed. "Executing the future Luna's orders." Lucas pulled out a large syringe with a cold smirk. "Ella lost her wolf because of your poison. She’s weak. You’re going to sustain her with your heart’s blood. This is the debt you owe." "I didn't poison her!" I shook my head wildly. "Ella ate the forbidden fruit herself! I saved her!" "Saved her?" Lucas scoffed. "Ella said you were jealous of her background and put wolfsbane in her medicine. She's about to become our Luna, and you must atone for what you've done. You’re finished, Halen." The needle pierced my chest. Agony flared. I could feel my wolf howling, struggling, being drained away bit by bit. "This is just the start," Lucas said, pulling the needle out. "You’ll be back every week to provide for Ella. Until you die." He left. I forced my weak body up and stumbled back to the house. I reached the door just as I heard Ella crying inside. "Domine… it’s all my fault… if I hadn't been so weak… if Halen hadn't poisoned me… you wouldn't have had to go through all this to get revenge…" "It’s not your fault," Domine’s voice was gentle. "It’s hers. She was jealous and made you lose your wolf. I’ll never let her off the hook." "But… look at me…" Ella sobbed. "I don’t even have a wolf anymore… I’m useless… You’re the Alpha heir… you need a strong Luna…" "Don't say that." Domine cut her off firmly. "You are my fated mate. You saved my life. Even without a wolf, you are my only Luna." The words shattered me. I collapsed by the door, shaking. There is a card on the ground: You are cordially invited to the Mating Ceremony of Domine Ashford and Ella Whitmore. Time: Full Moon, seven days from now. Location: Moonlight Pack Temple. I looked up at the house—the home I bought with every cent I had. I thought this was our home. I thought he loved me. It was all a lie. I stood up and tore the invitation to shreds. My chest was still bleeding, the silver poisoning my wolf, but my heart hurt far worse. # Chapter 2 "Halen, your applicationhas been approved. In seven days, you can leave the Blood Claw Pack and head to the North." I stared at the transfer order from the Healer’s Association on my phone and wiped the last of the tears from my eyes. Leaving was my only choice. I still had my father to think about. He was old and frail, living on my salary in a small cabin on the pack’s outskirts. I knew how Domine operated. A man like him wasn't someone a person like me could fight. If he was determined to ruin me, I was too small to stop him. All I could do was take my father and run. I booked our border passes immediately. In seven days, I would be gone for good. When I pushed open the door to our rental, Domine was busy in the kitchen. "Halen, you’re back?" he said without looking up. "Dinner’s almost ready." I looked at the dishes on the table. Every single one was a favorite of mine. Now, they just made me feel sick. The man in front of me wore a standard Delta warrior uniform, sleeves rolled up to reveal his powerful forearms. He looked so ordinary. It was impossible to reconcile this man with the Alpha of the Moonlight Pack. "Halen, why are you just standing there?" He gently guided me into a chair, his eyes full of warmth and expectation. I coldly pushed away the plate he handed me. "I’m not hungry." Domine immediately dropped his chopsticks and reached out to touch my forehead. "What’s wrong? Are you feeling okay?" I looked him straight in the eyes and spoke. "Domine, I want you to mark me." Not some grand ceremony. Right here. Right now. One bite to let everyone know I belonged to him. The air in the room turned to ice. Domine pulled his hand back, his expression hardening. "Halen, stop it. I told you,I've invited all my friends and family; the entire Moonlight Pack will witness our ceremony. This is exactly what I wanted." His tone was commanding, leaving no room for argument. Since when did a Delta warrior carry that kind of authority? Perhaps realizing he was being too harsh, Domine softened his voice and placed a piece of fish in my bowl. "Halen, I’ll give you anything you want... anything except marking you right now." Buzz—Buzz— Domine’s phone vibrated. His entire body went rigid. I saw the flash of guilt in his eyes. My heart sank. "Halen, there’s an emergency at the pack. A rogue sighting at the border. I have to go." Domine scrambled to his feet, grabbing his jacket. "Eat without me. I’ll be back as soon as I can." He practically bolted out the door. As it slammed shut, I looked at the dinner he’d made and laughed. It was a bitter, hollow sound. I had seen the caller ID clearly. It wasn't an emergency. It was a message from Ella. I’d heard from my friend at the Moonlight Pack several weeks ago that Ella had returned. She claimed she’d been studying abroad. Now I understood. Domine had been with me for three years just waiting for her to come back. Ever since Ella returned, Domine had been "working late" constantly. We hadn't had a real conversation in two weeks. We hadn't touched each other at all. I went into the bedroom and pulled an old crate from under the bed. It held everything of value I owned: a few rare healing potions, some silver coins, and a Moonlight Herb. I had found the herb by chance on patrol; it was worth a fortune. I had planned to give it to Domine as a mating gift. Now, I’d have to sell it to fund our escape. Seven days. That’s all I had. I had to get my father out of here before the Mating Ceremony. I heard footsteps outside. Domine was back. I shoved the crate back under the bed. "Halen?" Domine walked in, holding a small box. "I got you something." He handed it to me. In the market, it was worth at least five thousand gold coins. "I remember you saying you wanted one," he whispered. But I knew the truth. This gift was likely just to keep me healthy enough to keep "providing" for Ella. "Thanks," I forced a smile. "I love it." Domine looked relieved and reached out to hug me. I instinctively flinched away. His arms froze in mid-air, a flash of hurt crossing his face. "Halen, what’s going on?" he asked. "You’ve been acting strange all night. Are you sick? Should I take you to the medical center?" I shook my head. "No, I’m just tired. You should get some rest too." "Halen." Domine grabbed my hand, looking at me with dead seriousness. "Trust me, our Mating Ceremony will be incomparable." "I know," I said flatly. "I 'believe' you." Satisfied, Domine kissed my forehead. "Goodnight, my Halen." He stepped out and closed the door. I heard him on the phone in the living room. His voice was low, but my hearing was sharp. "Everything is going according to plan... she doesn't suspect a thing... in seven days, I’ll mark you in front of everyone... yes, I love you, Ella..." I closed my eyes. Tears fell silently into the dark. # Chapter 3 The next morning, my phone exploded with notifications. "Blood Claw Pack Head Healer Halen Rhodes is under investigation for the unauthorized possession of banned substances. The Moonlight Pack Healers’ Association has suspended her duties effective immediately." My name was there in plain black and white. But those drugs weren't mine! "Dammit!" I called my boss and close friend immediately. "Emma, this is a mistake! Those drugs aren't mine!" "Halen, I don't want to believe it either," Emma said, her voice heavy with concern. "But an anonymous tip came in. Someone claimed they saw you taking those substances from your locker, and they provided full evidence." "Who reported me?!" "It was anonymous." Emma paused. "Halen, the decision is final. You’re suspended until the investigation is over. If the charges are proven, your healer's license will be permanently revoked." I sat on my bed, my hands shaking. My license was my life. I had taught myself healing at six, became an apprentice at eighteen, a full healer at twenty, and Head Healer by twenty-three. This job was the only thing I had to keep me afloat. And now, it was ruined. Buzz—Buzz— Another notification. This time from the werewolf forum. "The True Face of the Blood Claw Pack's Head Healer! Not only did she poison her own kind, but she’s also hoarding illegal substances!!" The post already had thousands of comments. "I knew it! A sweet person like Ella wouldn't lose her wolf for no reason. This bitch did it!" "Halen Rhodes should be exiled! She doesn't deserve to be a healer!" "She treated me once. I feel sick just thinking about it. Did she use illegal drugs on me too?" "Demanding full punishment for Halen Rhodes! Make her pay!" The phone wouldn't stop vibrating with messages of pure rage. Some were from patients I had saved; others were complete strangers. They didn't know the truth at all, yet they cursed me with the most vicious words imaginable. I turned the phone off and buried my face in my hands. Tears leaked through my fingers. Why? Why was this happening? I forced myself to go to the medical center to find evidence. As soon as I walked in, the staff stopped talking, their eyes filled with suspicion and disgust. "Halen, you shouldn't be here," Emma said, intercepting me. "I want to believe you, but you’re banned until this is settled." "Emma, I need to check my locker! I’m being framed!" "Halen," Emma whispered, "you need to lay low." Before I could explain, a mob gathered at the entrance. They held signs that read: "EXILE THE SNAKE HALEN!" and "WE DEMAND JUSTICE!" "There she is! Halen Rhodes!" someone screamed. "Get out, you bitch!" Stones, rotten vegetables, and clumps of mud flew at me. I shielded my head and ran, the sounds of angry shouts and chasing footsteps right behind me. My clothes were stained, and a stone gashed my forehead, sending blood trickling down my face. I curled up in a dark alley, trembling, when a pair of red high heels appeared in front of me. It was Ella. She was wearing a cream Chanel dress, her hair perfectly styled—a sharp contrast to my bloodied, disheveled state. "Halen," Ella knelt, her eyes shimmering with fake pity. Then she leaned in and whispered, "I’m the one who reported you." "What?" I stared at her, stunned. "I framed you," she said, her hand gripping my wrist. "I put those drugs in your locker. I bought the media. I forged the evidence." A flash of triumph crossed her face before shifting back to a look of vulnerability. "Did you really think you could stay by Domine’s side for three years? I’m going to destroy your reputation. Let’s see if Domine chooses you or protects me." "You—" Suddenly, Ella grabbed her own arm and raked her nails across her skin, drawing deep, bloody gashes. In her weakened state, she shouldn't have bled that much—unless she had taken anticoagulants beforehand. "Halen!" A roar of fury came from the end of the alley. Domine. He stormed over, his eyes colder and more disappointed than I had ever seen. "Domine..." Ella threw herself into his arms, sobbing hysterically. "I just wanted to talk to her... to stop her from doing something stupid... but she said she didn't want my help... she tried to kill me... I don't have a wolf, I can't defend myself..." Domine looked at the blood on Ella's arm, his face turning livid. He looked at me as if I were a total stranger. "Halen, I am so disappointed in you." His words pierced my heart like a blade. "Domine, let me explain—" "Explain what?" he snapped. "Why you framed Ella? Or why you’re hiding illegal drugs?" "I didn't! She set me up!" "Enough!" Domine bellowed. "Ella just returned to the country recently; how could she possibly frame you? Stop making excuses, Halen." He swept Ella up into his arms. "It hurts..." she whimpered against his chest. "I’m taking you to be treated right now," he said softly. "You’re going to be okay." He had never used that tone with me. Not once. As they disappeared, I stood in the alley, shaking. That’s when Lucas appeared, holding a black box. "Halen Rhodes." Lucas looked at me with pure disdain. "The future Luna says you owe her more than just heart’s blood. You owe her your dignity." He opened the box. Inside was a collar. "What is that?" I stepped back. "Your punishment," Lucas sneered. "Since you made Ella lose her wolf, you should feel what it’s like to be powerless. This collar is laced with silver powder and wolfsbane extract. Once it’s on, you’ll feel a constant burn, and your wolf will be suppressed." "You can't—" Lucas didn't give me a chance to fight. He lunged, pinning me down and snapping the collar around my neck. The agony was instant. My wolf let out a pained howl before falling into a suffocating silence. I dropped to my knees, clutching my throat, unable to even scream. "It’s the Luna’s order," Lucas said, looking down at me. "And of course, Domine authorized it. Consider this a down payment on the debt you owe. There's plenty more to come." He walked away. I collapsed on the ground. The collar felt like a ring of fire, charring my skin. I could smell my own flesh burning. It hurt—god, it hurt. But the despair hurt more. I had been discarded by the pack. I had lost my love, my career, and my name. Now, even my wolf was suppressed. I curled into a ball as the rain began to fall. The cold water mixed with the blood from my neck, soaking into my clothes. Six days left until the Mating Ceremony. I struggled to my feet and began the long crawl back to my rental. Every step made the collar burn deeper. But I couldn't fall. I had to get my father out. I had to survive. # Chapter 4 I had to treat the wound on my neck. I didn't want to die. I slipped through the side entrance of the medical center, avoiding everyone’s gaze until I found the ointment for silver burns. Just as I was about to leave, voices echoed from the end of the hallway. It was Domine. He was carrying Ella in his arms, moving fast, with three medics trailing behind him. "Hurry! Get the VIP suite ready!" Domine’s voice was thick with panic. "I want the best medicine and the best healers on this, now!" "Yes, Alpha!" the medics scrambled into action. They disappeared into the VIP suite at the end of the hall. I bit my lip, clutching my cheap ointment. I crept toward the room and peered through the small window in the door. Domine was lowering Ella onto the bed with agonizing care. "Does it hurt?" He held her hand, his eyes full of heartache. "It hurts..." Ella whispered, tears tracking down her cheeks. "Domine, it hurts so much..." "It won't for long." Domine leaned down to kiss her forehead. "I'm going to make you better." He turned to the staff. "Get the Moonstone Healing Essence." A nurse gasped. "Alpha, that’s... that’s the most precious tonic . A single drop is worth a hundred thousand gold coins." "I said get the best," Domine snapped. "I don't care about the price; I'll pay." The nurse nodded and sprinted out. I ducked into the shadows as they whispered nearby. "My god, the Alpha of the Moonlight Pack is so good to the future Luna..." "I know. I heard that for his mate, he’s mobilized all the Moonlight Pack’s resources ... the gifts he's given these past few days alone are worth hundreds of millions..." "I also heard he gave her Star-Moon Lake, the most beautiful spot on the Moonlight Pack's border..." "He’s such a dominant Alpha! He'd give up anything for his woman!" Their voices faded. I leaned against the wall, my nails digging into my palms. Star-Moon Lake. Domine had taken me there for my eighteenth birthday. We had watched the stars, and he told me, "Halen, when we have a home of our own, I’ll bring you to live here. This place belongs only to us." Now I knew that place had never been ours. It was just another gift for Ella. The nurse returned with the Moonstone Healing Essence. Domine took the vial and used a cotton swab to delicately apply it to the scratches on Ella’s arm. "This might sting a bit. Hang in there," he said softly. "Mm..." Ella bit her lip, her eyes welling up. "Domine, am I useless? Getting you this worried over such a small injury..." "Don't be silly." He wiped her tears away. "You’re the woman I love. Taking care of you is my responsibility." He continued applying the medicine with a touch as light as a butterfly's wing. "Domine..." Ella suddenly caught his hand. A flash of calculation crossed her eyes, quickly masked by a pout. "I... I want the Moon-Tear Necklace." The Moon-Tear Necklace. I’d heard of it. It took the most famous jeweler in the North three years to craft, set with a hundred and eight Moon-Tears—the most sacred gems for werewolves, capable of strengthening the soul. It was worth twenty million gold coins. Domine went quiet for a second. "That's a bit much..." He frowned. "Ella, that necklace—" "I know it's expensive..." Ella looked down, her voice small. "I'm sorry, Domine. I shouldn't have asked. I just... I just wanted something to help my wolf. Maybe then she’d have a chance to come back..." She started crying again. "But I know I don't deserve it. I have nothing left. I'm just a burden to you..." "You are not a burden." Domine sighed and pulled her into a hug. "Fine. I’ll buy it. I’ll head North tomorrow and pick it up for you myself." "Really?" Ella looked up, her eyes gleaming. "Really." Domine ruffled her hair. "I’ll pay whatever it takes to get your wolf back." Ella threw herself into his arms, unable to hide her smug grin. "Domine, you’re too good to me..." I turned away and slid down the wall until I was sitting on the floor. Twenty million. Just a casual gift for Ella. They say love is where the money is. I looked down at my ointment— only fifty silver coins a bottle. Why can Ella always destroy my life so easily? I remembered high school. Ella was the daughter of the former Elder on the Alpha Council, and I was just a scholarship kid from the bottom of the pack. She hated that I had better grades, so she tormented me. Dead rats in my bag, laxatives in my water, locking me in the freezing storage room overnight. Once, she pushed me onto silver equipment during training, burning my right leg so badly I nearly passed out. No one came for me. I spent three days in the infirmary, bandaging my own wounds in agony. Later, I became a healer. When Ella ate that poison and was dying, I put our past behind me and pulled her back from the jaws of death. Domine used to say he loved my "heart of gold." He said he loved my dedication to saving lives and my kind soul that remained pure despite the pain I’d suffered. But now, his eyes didn't see me anymore. He only saw Ella. He only saw the woman who used to torture me and was now framing me. I stood up to leave. Just then, my phone vibrated. It was Emma. "Halen!" Emma’s voice was frantic. "Something’s happened to your father!" # Chapter 5 I rushed to the emergency room. My father was lying on the operating table. Deep bite marks tore through his neck and arms, and the skin around the wounds was already rotting. "What happened?" I grabbed Emma’s arm. "Why is my father like this?" Emma’s face was bloodless. "Halen, it looks like he was attacked by a rogue while on border patrol tonight. By the time they found him, two hours had already passed." Two hours. For rogue venom, two hours was a death sentence. "He needs Silvermoon Flower." Emma gripped my hands tight. "It’s the only thing that can neutralize the venom. But the medical center is out of stock, and the nearest apothecary won't open until morning." Silvermoon Flower! I had it! "I have one!" I turned and bolted. "I’m going to get it right now!" I burst out of the medical center and ran toward my rental as fast as my lungs would allow. The silver collar around my neck burned like a ring of fire with every jagged breath, but I didn't care about the pain. I remembered my father when he was young—a strong warrior who would carry me on his shoulders to look at the stars. "Look at the brightest one, Halen," he used to say. "That’s the Moon Goddess watching over us. As long as you keep a good heart, she’ll protect you." After my mother passed, he raised me alone. He gave me the best food while he ate the cheapest pack rations. He saved every penny to put me through medical school just so I wouldn't have to struggle at the bottom of the pack like he did. The day I became Head Healer, he cried. He told me I was the greatest pride of his life. And what did I do? I neglected him again and again for Domine. How many nights did he sit alone in that tiny cabin waiting for me while I was out on dates? How many times did I make excuses for Domine because he was "too busy" to meet him? Last month, when he was sick, I promised to visit, but I stood him up because of one phone call from Domine. I was a terrible daughter. Yet, he never blamed me. "You have your own life, Halen," he’d say. "I don't mind." I couldn't let him down again. I burst into the house, ran to the bedroom, and tore open the nightstand drawer. Empty. The ornate box holding the Silvermoon Flower was gone. I searched frantically—under the bed, in the closet, through every drawer. Nothing. Domine. It had to be him. I dialed his number. It rang for an eternity before he finally picked up. "Halen?" Domine sounded annoyed. "What is it? I’m looking after Ella." "Domine, did you take the Silvermoon Flower?" I fought to keep my voice steady. "Yeah, I took it," he said casually. "Why?" "I need it." I took a shaky breath. "Domine, please. Give it back. It’s an emergency." "Sorry, Halen. It’s already gone." I froze. "What?" "Ella was hurt today. You know about the wounds on her arm." Domine’s voice turned accusatory. "She said the only thing that could dull the pain was the scent of Silvermoon Flower. So, I turned all Silvermoon Flower I can find into incense. It’s burning in her room right now." Hurt. Those were the scratches Ella gave herself. And Domine had turned a life-saving herb into incense for a few superficial marks. "Domine, my father is dying," I said, my voice trembling. "I need that flower. Please, give me whatever is left." The line went silent for a few seconds before Ella’s voice cut in. She had snatched the phone. "Are you lying again, Halen?" Ella sounded indignant. "This is too much! You’re just mad that Domine gave the flower to me, so you made up some story about your father being sick? You’re actually using your own father just to get back at me?" "I’m not lying—" Domine took the phone back. "Halen, I’m disappointed. I know you have a grudge against Ella, but you shouldn't sink this low. You hurt her today; I had to make it up to her." "It’s not a lie!" My tears finally broke. "Domine, my father is really dying! I need the flower!" "If your father is sick, take him to the medical center," Domine snapped. "Stop calling us. Ella was injured and she needs her rest." "Domine, listen to me—" "Enough, Halen. Even if I had another flower, I’d give it to Ella. Her pain is because of you, and making her comfortable is more important than anything else." He hung up. I sank to the floor, clutching my phone. He didn't believe me. I forced myself up and ran back to the medical center. If I didn't have the flower, I had to find another way. I could use my blood. Although a relative's blood cannot directly cure the toxin, it can temporarily suppress the Rogue venom. As long as I can hold on until dawn when the apothecary opens, I will be able to buy Silvermoon Flower. I burst into the emergency room. "Emma! Use my blood! A relative's blood can temporarily suppress the venom!" Emma froze. "Halen, you’re in bad shape. I’m worried you can't handle this—" "It doesn't matter!" I interrupted her. "I can do it! Fast!" "But Halen, you’ll die—" "I’d rather die if it means my father gets to live." I grabbed her hand. "Emma, please." She gritted her teeth and nodded. The healer hesitantly inserted the needle. Deep red blood flowed through the tube and into my father’s body. One bag. Two bags. I watched his pale face and prayed. Dad, I’m sorry. Please don't die. Just hold on until morning. Three bags. Four bags. My vision started to blur, and a loud buzzing filled my ears. "Halen, stop! You’re going to die!" Emma tried to pull the needle. "Keep going!" I hissed. By the fifth bag, my body gave out. I collapsed onto the floor as the world went black. In the haze, I heard frantic footsteps and the panicked voices of the healers. "The venom is spreading! Without Silvermoon Flower, our current medical treatments are completely useless." I struggled to get up, but I didn't even have the strength to lift my hand. "Halen..." A weak voice sounded beside me. My father was awake. I turned my head with great effort and saw him looking at me. His eyes were dull and his lips were turning black, but he managed a small smile. "Dad..." I choked out. "Don't cry..." He squeezed my hand with the last of his strength. "Halen... Dad... doesn't blame you..." "I’m so sorry," I sobbed. "It’s all my fault. If I hadn't met Domine... if I hadn't saved Ella... you wouldn't be..." "No..." He shook his head. "You... did nothing wrong... Being kind... is a good thing..." "But I can't even save you..." "Halen..." His breath was growing shallower. "Listen... tonight... at the border... I saw Ella..." My entire body went rigid. "She was... with a rogue..." He gasped for air. "It wasn't... an attack... they were... talking..." "What?" "I saw her... give the rogue... something..." He coughed up a spray of black blood. "The rogue... saw me... and attacked... Ella... she ran..." "Halen... watch out for her... she’s... dangerous..." His hand went limp. The monitors let out a long, piercing shriek. "We’re losing him! Resuscitate!" The healers rushed in, performing chest compressions and injecting epinephrine. But it was useless. "Time of death: 3:27 AM." I knelt by the bed, holding his cold hand. His eyes were still open, looking at me—a father’s final act of protection. "Dad..." My voice was a hollow wreck. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry I couldn't save you." "You were right. I shouldn't have saved her. I should never have known Domine." "If I had just listened to you, you'd still be here." I stayed there, draped over him, crying until I had nothing left. Finally, I stood up and wiped my face. I was done crying. I was done begging. I was going to make Ella pay. I was going to make Domine realize just how monstrous his mistake was. I gently reached out and closed my father’s eyes. "Don't worry, Dad," I whispered. "I'll be careful. And I’ll make sure she pays for this. I promise." # Chapter 6 My father’s funeral was a pathetic affair. No flowers, no music—just a simple urn. As a low-ranking Delta, he wasn't even granted the cheapest plot in the pack cemetery. I was walking out, clutching the urn to my chest, when I ran into Domine and Ella. Domine stopped in his tracks. Ella looked at the urn in my arms and smirked. "Halen, is this part of the act?" she whispered. "Did you really buy a prop urn just to steal Domine back?" I gripped the urn until my knuckles turned white. My hands were shaking. "My father is dead." "Dead?" Ella tilted her head. "How possible? You were just throwing a tantrum because he chose me. Now that you see he didn't fall for it, you're carrying that box around to play the victim?" I looked at Domine. He stood behind her, his eyes flickering with a moment of doubt. "Domine..." My voice cracked. "He’s really gone. A rogue bit him; the venom was too much. I begged you. I told you I needed that Silvermoon Flower." "He’s dead, and you still don't believe me?" Domine’s throat moved as he swallowed. I saw it—that flash of pity. For a split second, looking at me standing there with my father’s ashes, he wavered. Three years of history doesn't just vanish. I remembered when he was just a "regular Delta" living in a shack. When my father found out we were dating, he wasn't thrilled, but he accepted it. He even invited Domine over for dinner. My father made a feast out of the best ingredients a commoner could afford. Domine ate every bite, praising my father's cooking. My father was so happy he brought out his private stash of Moonlight Wine. "Domine, my biggest regret is not being able to give Halen a better life," my father had said, voice thick with drink. "You have to take care of her, okay?" "I will, sir," Domine had said, gripping his hand. "I’ll take care of her for the rest of my life." He looked so sincere back then. I really thought he loved me. I remembered when my father got hurt on patrol and Domine carried him all the way back, staying by his side all night and even using his "wages" to pay the medical bill. My father cried, calling him a good man. But that "good man" had forgotten everything. He had forgotten the kindness of an old man who was now nothing but dust. Sensing Domine’s hesitation, Ella suddenly grabbed his arm, her voice turning weak. "Domine... I feel dizzy..." He immediately supported her. "What’s wrong?" "I think my wound opened again... I don't have a wolf to heal me..." She started to cry. "I’m so scared. Am I going to die?" She leaned into him, her touch possessive. "How is it such a coincidence? The moment you give me the herb, her father suddenly needs it? There are Silvermoon Flowers all over the apothecary shops—sure, they aren't as high-quality as yours, but how could he die that fast?" "Is this just a trap to make me look bad? Does she hate me that much for having your attention?" Domine pulled her closer. "No. I won't let her hurt you." He looked up at me. The doubt was gone. "Halen, I don't care what’s in that box. I don't believe he’s dead." "You’re just bitter because I gave the flower to Ella, and you’re using this to punish me. It won't work. I'm taking Ella for her check-up." He walked away, guiding her past me. Ella looked back over her shoulder, her lips curling into a triumphant smile. I stood there, clutching my father's ashes, shivering in the cold. I walked back to my father’s cabin. Every step felt like I was carrying lead. The house was tiny—just a bed, a table, and a wardrobe. All twenty-year-old relics. I placed the urn on the table. "Dad, we're home." I started packing his things. Clothes. Shoes. Old junk he couldn't bear to toss. Under the bed, I found a wooden box covered in dust. Inside was a diary and a USB drive. The cover of the diary read: Seeking Justice for My Daughter. My hands trembled as I opened the first page. Halen is sixteen. She came home today with a new scar on her back. She said she fell, but I know a silver burn when I see one. People at school say it’s Ella Whitmore. I wanted to go to the school and demand answers, but the Elders warned me. They said Ella is a former Elder’s daughter. A Delta like me has no right to accuse her. If I make trouble, they'll exile me. I can't leave Halen alone. But I won't let this go. I’ll gather evidence. One day, I will get her justice. Page after page. Every entry was a record of my pain, written in my father's blood and sweat. My tears hit the paper. He knew. He knew about the bullying, the injuries, the agony. He couldn't protect me then because he was too weak, so he spent years gathering evidence in secret, hoping to one day set things right. I wiped my eyes and plugged the USB into his old computer. There were hundreds of photos, dozens of videos, and recordings. Every file was a knife to the heart. Then, I found the most recent video. It was the border woods. Ella was standing there, talking to a red-eyed Rogue. "I gave you the items," Ella's voice was crystal clear. "Proceed as planned." "Yes, Luna," the Rogue replied. "As soon as the old man shows up, I’ll take him out." "Good." Ella smirked. "That bitch Halen has kept Domine from me for too long. It’s time she felt what it’s like to lose someone." She pulled out a small vial. "This is your payment. Drink it, and your strength will triple—enough to defeat any enemy." Then, they went their separate ways. Ella headed toward the center of the Moonlight Pack. My father was hiding behind a tree, and he caught them in the middle of the deal. But he accidentally snapped a branch. *Crack—* Ella turned around. She saw my father. "Who's there?!" My father turned and ran. Ella let out a sharp whistle. The Rogue lunged out from the woods and tackled my father. The footage cut out. The last few seconds showed my father's phone hitting the ground. But the video had already automatically uploaded to the cloud. My body was shaking. So that was it. Ella was the one who killed my father. She thought the evidence died with him. I kept digging. I found another video from three years ago—the day Ella supposedly "lost her wolf." Ella was in a cave with a vial. "A temporary wolf-suppressant," she told the camera, grinning. "If I drink this, I can fake losing my wolf. Domine will be devastated." "As for that idiot Halen, she’ll think she saved me. She won't know I was never poisoned. I just ate some harmless berries to look weak." "She actually thinks she’s a hero." Ella drank the potion, shivered, and collapsed. Seconds later, she got up and checked her pulse. "Perfect. My wolf is suppressed. Now I'm just a 'poor, defenseless girl.' Domine will never leave me." "And Halen..." Her eyes turned venomous. "I won't let a low-life werewolf be better than me. I’ll take everything from her. Her job, her name, her love, her family. I won't leave her with anything." The video ended. I sat there, my soul on fire. So it was all just an act by Ella. She lied to everyone, including Domine. And I was the only victim. I gripped the USB drive in my fist. This was it. The evidence that would shatter every lie she ever told. Evidence bought with my father’s life. I touched the cold surface of his urn. "Thank you, Dad," I whispered. "Thank you for everything." "I’ll use this to destroy them. I’ll make her pay, and I’ll make Domine realize exactly who he gave his heart to." "I’ll make the whole pack see the truth." I tucked the drive and the diary away. Something inside me had burned to ash and been replaced by a cold, hard flame. I wasn't the kind, weak Halen anymore. No more crying. No more begging. No more backing down. # Chapter 7 One day left. One day until Domine and Ella’s Mating Ceremony. I returned to our rental. Domine wasn't there. A note sat on the table. "Halen, I have to prep for tomorrow’s ceremony tonight. I’ll probably be back late. Dinner’s in the fridge—don't forget to eat. — D" I looked at that note and laughed. It was a cold, bitter sound. I crumpled the paper into a ball and threw it in the trash. I went into the bedroom and started packing. Clothes. My diary. The USB drive and the evidence my father left behind. Tomorrow, I was leaving this place for good. Halfway through packing, I heard footsteps outside. Domine was back. I checked the time: 1:00 AM. His steps were light, as if he were afraid of waking me. I lay back on the bed and closed my eyes, pretending to be asleep. The door opened. Domine stood by the bed, watching me for a moment before turning and walking out. I heard him dialing a number in the living room. "Ella? Still up?" He was calling her. I held my breath. "Is everything ready for tomorrow?" Domine’s voice was incredibly tender. "Don't be nervous. It’s going to be perfect." I couldn't hear her response, but I could hear the flirtatious tone of her voice on the other end. "Of course," Domine laughed. "Tomorrow, I’m marking you in front of the entire pack. You are my Luna. My only Luna." My heart felt like it was being shredded. Even though I knew this was coming, hearing it with my own ears still felt like a physical blow. "Halen?" Domine paused. "She doesn't suspect a thing." "I’ll stick to the plan tomorrow. First, we finish the marking ceremony. Then, the Elders will announce a 'special treatment.' To restore your wolf, we’ll need to 'supplement' it with Halen’s wolf essence." I froze. What? "The whole pack will think we're doing it to save you," Domine continued. "Halen will be brought to the altar, and her wolf will be extracted in front of everyone. This serves two purposes: you get a powerful wolf and become a true Luna, and Halen will be completely stripped of her power. She’ll never be a threat to you again." I heard a faint murmur from Ella. Domine laughed again. "No, she won't die. Once her wolf is extracted, she’ll just be a regular human. She’ll never be able to shift again." "Yeah, basically a cripple. But she’ll be alive. Alive to watch us be together. Alive to regret everything she’s done." Tears fell silently into my pillow. That was their plan. Strip me of my wolf to feed Ella. Make me a cripple and force me to watch their happiness as punishment for crimes I never committed. "Silvermoon Flower?" Domine’s voice suddenly turned excited. "You like the incense? That’s great. I’ve already ordered the pack to buy up every last bloom in the territory. Every single one." "I used my authority as Alpha to ban any apothecary from selling it to anyone else. Now you can fall asleep to that scent every single night." My nails bit into my palms. Every last flower. He gave them all to Ella while my father died in agony because we couldn't find a single petal. "It’s not too expensive," Domine said. "You deserve the best. What's money compared to your happiness? I’d give you the whole pack if you wanted it." Ella must have said something sweet because Domine’s voice dropped even lower. "I love you too, Ella. Halen means nothing to me. She’s just a tool—a way to pay back what she owes. Once tomorrow is over, I don't have to play this part anymore." They talked for a long time, nothing but sweet nothings. Finally, the call ended. I heard Domine let out a long sigh. Then he whispered to himself: "I’m sorry, Halen." My heart skipped a beat. "But you owe Ella this. You’re the reason she lost her wolf. You have to pay. Once it’s over and her wolf is back, I’ll forgive you. I’ll keep you hidden, as my secret lover." "I know you’re my fated mate. I can feel the pull of the bond. So I won't let you die, and I won't let you leave. You’ll stay by my side... it just can't be public. Ella can't know. The pack can't know. You’ll have to stay in the shadows, hidden away forever." "But that’s fine. At least I’ll still have you." There was a strange complexity in his voice. "It’s the best way," he said. "Ella gets what she wants. I get what I need. And you, Halen, you’ll finally atone for your sins. It’s better for everyone." I closed my eyes. He wanted to lock me away as his secret toy. Force me to live in darkness for the rest of my life. He didn't realize that was a fate far more cruel than death. I heard Domine go into the bathroom. The sound of the shower started. A while later, he came out and lay down on the other side of the bed. I could feel him watching me for a long time. Then he reached out, trying to pull me into his arms. I snapped my eyes open and rolled away from his touch. "Halen?" Domine was startled. "You’re awake?" "Yeah," I sat up, keeping my back to him. "You woke me up." "I’m sorry," he said. "I thought you were out." He tried to move closer again. I stood up and walked over to the window. "Halen? What’s wrong?" "Nothing," I said flatly. "I just can't sleep." "I'll stay with you then." Domine stood up and walked over behind me. He placed his hands on my shoulders. I could feel his heat and that familiar scent—a scent I used to love. Now, it just made me want to gag. "Halen," Domine whispered. "Tomorrow is our ceremony. Are you happy?" I smiled. "Very." "Good." Domine sounded relieved. "I was worried you weren't. I’ve been looking forward to this for three years. I'm going to give you the most perfect, grand ceremony the pack has ever seen. Everyone will know you belong to me." He sounded so tender, as if he actually loved me. "Domine," I said suddenly. "Yeah?" "Do you really love me?" He was silent for a few heartbeats. Then he turned me around to face him. "Of course," he said, looking into my eyes. "I love you, Halen. I’ve never loved anyone like this. Why would you even ask?" "No reason. Just nerves, I guess." I pushed him away. "I’m tired. I'm going back to bed." "Halen—" He tried to grab my arm. "Don't touch me," I snapped, pulling away. "Why?" Domine frowned. "You're acting so strange tonight." "I'm fine." I climbed back into bed and lay down with my back to him. "I'm just exhausted. I want to rest before tomorrow." Domine stood by the bed for a long time before finally sighing and lying down. "Fine," he said. "Get some rest. Tomorrow is going to be a beautiful day. I promise." He reached out to hold me from behind. I moved to the very edge of the bed, putting as much distance between us as possible. He fell silent. His hand hung in the air for a moment before he slowly let it drop. "Okay. Goodnight, Halen." "Goodnight." The room went dark. I listened to his breathing as it eventually evened out into sleep. I stayed wide awake, staring into the blackness. Everything I had just heard played on a loop in my mind. Tomorrow, they were going to tear my wolf away. Tomorrow, Domine was going to mark Ella. I wasn't going to let that happen. I felt the USB drive in my pocket. Dad, I whispered in my mind. Tomorrow, I get our revenge. I promise. I closed my eyes. This was my last night in this pack. I took a deep breath and pushed all my memories down deep. It was over. Tomorrow, I’d cut every tie to my past. Tomorrow, a new Halen would walk toward a brand new future. # Chapter 8 It’s the night of the full moon. The Moonlight Pack Temple has never been this crowded. Every single pack member is here, waiting for their Alpha, Domine Ashford, and the future Luna, Ella Whitmore, to complete their Mating Ceremony. Silvermoon flowers cover the altar. Hundreds of them. It’s pathetic. These flowers were supposed to save my father’s life, but now they’re being used as mere decorations for Domine and Ella’s wedding. I stand on the hillside outside the temple, watching the building glow with light from a distance. I’m clutching the small remote in my hand. The wind is freezing, whipping my hair across my face, but my heart is colder. Music drifts out from the temple. The ceremony has begun. I close my eyes, and the memories of that day flood back. Domine was lying in my arms, so weak he couldn't even open his eyes. "What’s your name?" he asked. "Halen Rhodes," I told him. "Thank you for saving me, Halen." Back then, his eyes looked so sincere. I actually thought I had found my fated mate. But it was all a lie. I open my eyes and stare at the temple. "Domine," I whisper. "I’m not coming to your ceremony. But I’m giving you a gift you’ll never forget." --- Inside the temple, Domine stands at the altar. He’s dressed in formal Alpha robes, looking regal and commanding. Ella stands beside him in a pure white Luna gown. That twenty-million-gold necklace is draped around her neck, the Moon-Tear stones shimmering under the lights. She’s beaming. The Head Elder stands up, his voice amplified by stones to reach every corner of the temple. "We are gathered here today to witness the sacred union of Alpha Domine Ashford and Ella Whitmore. This is a blessing from the Moon Goddess. Let us celebrate these fated mates." The room explodes into cheers and applause. Everyone is celebrating. Everyone is offering blessings. Domine looks out at the crowd. There are so many people, but the one person he’s looking for isn't there. My absence is making him uneasy, but the ceremony has already started. He pushes his doubts aside. The Elder continues, "Alpha Domine Ashford, do you take Ella Whitmore to be your Luna? Through thick and thin, for richer or poorer? Do you swear to protect her, cherish her, and love her forever?" Domine looks at Ella. Her eyes are full of anticipation and love. He should say "I do," but for some reason, the words are stuck in his throat. He’s thinking of me. He remembers every meal I cooked, the songs I hummed while doing laundry, and the way I looked when I held him and said "I love you." Suddenly, he feels empty inside, like a piece of him is missing. "Alpha?" the Elder prompts. Domine snaps out of it and takes a deep breath. "I do." The Elder turns to Ella. "Ella Whitmore, do you take Domine Ashford to be your Alpha? In joy and sorrow, in health and sickness? Do you swear to support him, stay by his side, and love him forever?" Tears stream down Ella’s face. "I do!" her voice rings out, loud enough for everyone to hear. The Elder raises his hands. "Then, Alpha, complete the mark." Domine walks toward Ella. He places his hands on her shoulders, leans down, and bites into her neck to leave his Alpha mark. The mate bond forms. The crowd erupts in cheers, but Domine’s frown only deepens. The bond feels wrong. It’s fragile, like it could snap at any second. He looks at Ella. She’s smiling brightly, but suddenly, that smile feels strange to him. It feels fake. The Elder announces, "I now pronounce Domine Ashford and Ella Whitmore as mates! Let us bless them!" But right then— The giant screens in the temple suddenly flicker to life. Everyone freezes. Domine turns to look at the screen. The footage starts. It’s a cave. Ella is standing there, holding a small vial. "A temporary wolf-suppressant," she says, holding up the bottle. "If I drink this, I can fake losing my wolf. Domine will be devastated. As for that idiot Halen..." Her eyes turn vicious. "She thinks she saved me, but I was never poisoned. I just ate some harmless berries to look weak. She actually thinks she’s a hero." Ella downs the potion, her body shakes, and she falls to the ground. Then she climbs back up and checks herself over. "Perfect. My wolf is suppressed," she laughs. "Now I’m just a 'poor, defenseless girl.' Domine will never leave me. And as for Halen..." Her smile gets even more cruel. "I won't let a low-life Delta’s daughter be better than me. I’m going to make her lose everything." The video ends. The room is dead silent as everyone stares at the screen, then at Ella. Ella’s face is ghost-white. She’s shaking. Domine is frozen, staring at the screen in total disbelief. "No... that’s not... it’s not true..." Ella’s voice trembles. "It’s a fake!" she screams. "I never said those things!" But nobody believes her, because the screen lights up again. This time, it’s the pack border. In the woods, Ella is talking to a red-eyed Rogue. "I gave you the stuff," Ella says. "Proceed as planned." "Yes, Luna," the Rogue replies. "As soon as the old man shows up, I’ll take him out." "Good," Ella smirks. "That bitch Halen has kept Domine from me for too long. It’s time she felt what it’s like to lose someone." She hands over a small vial. "Drink this. It’ll hide your Rogue scent so you can sneak into the pack." The Rogue takes the bottle and downs it. Then, my father is seen hiding behind a tree, filming. He snaps a branch. My father turns to run, and the Rogue lunges out of the brush and tackles him. The screen goes black. The temple explodes. People are screaming and roaring in rage. "God! Ella was working with Rogues!" "She murdered Rhodes!" The Elders’ faces are livid. The Head Elder stands up and points at Ella. "Ella Whitmore!" his voice shakes with rage. "You conspired with a Rogue! You murdered a pack member! This is a capital offense!" Ella collapses to the floor, shivering, her lips turning white. "It wasn't me..." But the screen isn't finished. A third video starts. It’s the medical center records. It clearly reads: Patient: Domine Ashford Injury: Silver burns, wolfsbane poisoning Treating Healer: Halen Rhodes Duration: 72 hours My signature is right there at the bottom, followed by surveillance stills. The footage shows me bandaging Domine’s wounds. I stayed by his side for three days and nights without leaving for a second. Ella is nowhere to be found. Domine stares at the records, looking like he’s been struck by lightning. "So... it was Halen who saved me? Halen stayed with me for three days? And Ella... just took the credit?" He turns to Ella, his eyes full of pure shock. "Ella, tell me this isn't real. Tell me you didn't lie to me." Ella just shakes her head and cries. She can't say anything because the proof is undeniable. The screen plays a fourth video. It’s high school. A montage of clips: Ella pressing a lit cigarette into my arm, locking me in a freezer, and rallying the class to isolate me. The pack members start cursing. "How could she do that?!" "That poor girl..." "Halen was bullied by her for three years! And we all believed Ella’s lies!" The final video is my father’s last words. He’s lying in the hospital bed, his face pale and covered in Rogue bites. He uses his last bit of strength to speak. "I saw it... Ella was with a Rogue... she gave him a potion... she’s trying to hurt Halen... Domine... don't believe Ella... she’s a liar... Halen is the one who saved you... it was always Halen..." My father’s hand falls. His heart stops. The image freezes, then fades to black. Finally, a line of text appears: Domine, here’s a wedding gift for you and Ella. Enjoy your life together. — Halen Rhodes The screen goes dark. The temple is deathly quiet as everyone processes what they just saw. Then, Domine snaps. "AAAAHHHHH!!!" He lets out a primal roar. His eyes turn gold as his Alpha aura sweeps through the temple. Everyone drops to their knees, including the Elders. Only Ella remains upright because she’s already been marked; a Luna is immune to her Alpha’s aura. Domine turns to Ella, his face twisted with pure rage. "You lied to me," he says, his voice low and deadly. "You lied to me for years. You made me believe you were my savior. You made me believe Halen was the one hurting you. You let me torment her for three years." He steps toward her. "I ruined her job. I destroyed her reputation. I’m the reason her father is dead. All because of you!" Ella backs away. She sees the killing intent in Domine’s eyes. He really wants her dead. "Domine... I..." "You ruined everything!" Domine lunges and grabs Ella by the throat, squeezing hard. Her face turns purple instantly. She struggles, but his grip is like iron. "You destroyed Halen! You destroyed me! You destroyed everything we had!" Domine’s grip gets tighter. Ella’s eyes start to roll back. She’s suffocating. "Alpha Domine!" The Elders rush forward. "Stop! You’ve already completed the mark! Killing your own Luna is a high crime! The Alpha Council will execute you!" But Domine isn't listening. He’s lost all reason. His wolf has taken over. He just wants to rip Ella apart and make her pay for everything. "I don't care!" Domine roars. "She deserves to die!" Four warriors rush in and struggle to pull him off. The Head Elder finally uses a calming spell. Domine freezes, his hand lets go, and Ella falls to the floor, coughing violently with bruises already forming on her neck. Domine drops to his knees as the spell suppresses his wolf. He clutches his head, howling like a wounded animal. His wolf is screaming inside him: You lost our true mate! You idiot! You were blind! I despise you! Domine struggles in agony. "I know... I know... it’s all my fault... it’s all my fault..." He looks at Ella, his eyes filled with nothing but hate. "You ruined everything. I will never forgive you." Ella lies on the ground, looking at Domine, and suddenly starts laughing hysterically. "Hahaha—" Tears stream down her face as she laughs. "Domine, you really think this is all my fault? The one who truly hurt Halen was you!" Domine freezes. Ella crawls up and points at him. "It was you! You’re the one who accused her of bullying me! You’re the one who took away her job! You’re the one who wanted to drain her wolf! And while her father was dying, you were busy spending millions at an auction! You let her suffer through that loss all alone!" Every word is a knife to Domine’s heart. "I just gave you a nudge," she sneers. "But you’re the real killer! You’re the one who killed Halen’s father! You’re the one who hurt her the most!" Ella laughs like a maniac. "Didn’t you enjoy everything I did? You watched her suffer for three years! You broke her with your own hands! What right do you have to hate me? You should hate yourself!" Domine stands there, paralyzed. Ella’s words are like poison, eating away at his soul. Because she’s right. The person who hurt me the most was him. He’s the murderer. He’s the one who should die. Domine tilts his head back and lets out a long, agonized scream that makes the entire temple tremble. #
