I Am Actually Already Getting Married

My aggressively commitment-phobic boyfriend dropped a bombshell on the eve of April Fool’s Day. He looked me dead in the eye, his expression completely earnest, and told me he wanted to get married. I froze for a fraction of a second. Then, I gave a soft, almost imperceptible shake of my head and told him there was no need for all that. A wave of palpable relief washed over him. He actually patted his chest, letting out a breath, and promised that whenever I was ready, all I had to do was say the word. I couldn't help the small smile that broke across my face. I looked right into his eyes, my voice dead calm, and told him that I was, in fact, already getting married.
