Chapter 1
Four weeks after I almost died giving birth to our daughter, my husband posts a video of me wetting myself in his company's group chat — just to make his secretary laugh.
[This is what happens after a woman pops out a kid. She can't even hold her pee.]
[Honestly, I'd rather find some young girl with no kids.]
[Every time I see her stretch marks, I want to throw up. I don't even want to touch her anymore.]
Bianca, his secretary, fires back a string of laughing emojis.
[Oh my God, she peed right through her pants! You'd think she was ninety.]
[Mr. Pryce, aren't you worried she'll see this and freak out?]
My husband's reply is ice cold.
[What's she gonna do, leave me? She's already had my kid. Who else is gonna want her now?]
It feels like a knife twisting in my heart.
I nearly bled out on the delivery table for his kid, and this is what I get — mockery and contempt.
I don't scream. I don't throw anything. I calmly screenshot every single message Declan sent, then I call my dad.
"Dad, pull every deal you have with Declan Pryce. Right now. I want him broke."
"I want him knocked down so hard he never gets back up."
Not long after, Declan comes home and pounds on the door like a maniac.
"Cam, I forgot my keys!"
I'm still seething over that video, and I want answers.
But as soon as I reach the door, I hear Bianca laughing.
"Cam's video is wild. I swear I could smell it through the screen."
"Mr. Pryce, you'd better stock up on air freshener. If she keeps leaking, your house is gonna smell like a barn."
Everyone laughs. I look through the peephole and see Declan standing there with a whole crowd.
One of his buddies smirks. "Dude, she's taking forever. Think she's mad?"
Declan snorts. "Please. Have you seen her lately? She should be grateful I haven't dumped her. She doesn't get to cop an attitude."
"Besides, she's a stay-at-home mom with no income. Where's she gonna go without me?"
"Hang on, I'll call her and tell her to open up."
I yank the door open. Declan takes one look at my pajamas and rolls his eyes.
"I told you my friends were coming over today for the baby's sip-and-see. What took you so long?"
"And look at you. You look like a mess. You're embarrassing me."
They pile into the house. Not one of them even glances at me.
Bianca sits beside Declan, feeding him orange slices while they flirt. They're acting like I'm not even there.
My hands curl into fists. I pull up the video and shove my phone in his face.
"Why would you post something that private in a group chat? I'm your wife. Did you think for one second about how I'd feel?"
Declan barely glances at it."It was a joke. Lighten up. If you want to be Mrs. Pryce, you need to learn to roll with it."
Roll with it? So I'm just supposed to let people walk all over me?
Then Bianca grabs the remote and turns on the TV.
"Mr. Pryce, your TV is huge! The picture must be amazing. Let me put on a movie for everyone."
She shoots me a smug look. A second later, the video of me wetting myself fills the giant screen.
The guys burst out laughing. Someone whistles. Someone else jeers.
Bianca's eyes are daring me, but her voice is sugary sweet."Oops, sorry, Cam. Wrong video."
Declan's friends eye me up and down, smirking.
Bianca jabs at the remote a few times, pretending to panic.
"Ugh, why won't it turn off? I'm freaking out!"
Face burning, I rush over and rip the plug out of the wall. I jab a finger in her face.
"You did that on purpose. Don't think I don't see what you're doing."
Bianca flinches like a startled deer and ducks into Declan's arms.
"Mr. Pryce, my finger slipped, I swear. It was an accident. You believe me, right?"
Declan murmurs something soothing to her, then turns on me, annoyed.
"Camille, she didn't mean it. Stop making a scene."
Bianca smirks like she's won. Then she walks over to the bassinet and reaches for my baby without asking.
"Oh my gosh, she's so cute! Let me hold her."
I race over and scoop my daughter up. I glare at her, shaking with rage.
"Touch my daughter, and I swear you'll regret it."
Chapter 2
Declan steps in front of Bianca and frowns at me.
"Bianca just likes kids. What's the big deal if she holds her? Do you have to freak out over everything?"
I keep my eyes on Bianca.
"She hasn't washed her hands. Newborns catch everything. She could make the baby sick."
Bianca rolls her eyes and crosses her arms. "My cat just had kittens. I hold them all the time, and they're fine."
I stare her down. "My baby is not one of your kittens. You're not touching her. Got it?"
Tears well up in Bianca's eyes.
"Mr. Pryce, I was only trying to help. I didn't know she hated me this much. I guess I'm just a lowly secretary to her."
She turns toward the door like she's leaving. Declan grabs her arm.
Declan sneers at me.
"Oh, so now she's the dirty one? You're the one who peed her pants on video."
"If anyone's dirty around here, it's you. This isn't about her hands. You just hate her."
His words hit me like a slap. And suddenly, I'm remembering everything.
It all started back in high school. A gang of thugs cornered me against a wall after class, and he stepped in and fought them off.
One of them slashed his back with a knife. He still has the scar.
I fell for him that day — for how brave he was. We've been together ever since.
After graduation, I gave up my spot at my dad's company to be with him. I helped him build his business from nothing.
To help Declan make it, I chased down clients everywhere and swallowed every insult people threw at me.
But now that the company is finally taking off, Declan can't keep it in his pants.
That homewrecker Bianca has him completely wrapped around her finger.
I guess Dad was right. Money changes men.
Declan turned what childbirth did to my body into a joke for Bianca. He never once thought about how I'd feel.
This isn't the man I married. I don't even recognize him anymore.
One of his friends grabs his arm.
"Come on, man. She might have postpartum depression. Her hormones are all over the place. Cut her some slack."
Declan shakes him off and glares at me.
"She's just gotten used to playing the rich wife. She thinks she's better than everyone."
"I'm sick of her high-and-mighty act. Who is she to look down on Bianca? She used to live in a dump and count every penny too."
Every word cuts like ice. There's no blood, but inside, I'm torn to pieces.
I swallow the pain and lay my baby back in the bassinet.
I say each word slowly. "Have you forgotten who stood by you when you had nothing?"
"I nearly died giving you a child, and you put the most humiliating moment of my life on display for everyone to laugh at."
"And now you're rubbing salt in the wound. What kind of man does that?"
Declan sees how hard I'm shaking. For a second, something like guilt flickers in his eyes.
He takes a step toward me, like he's about to apologize.
"Cam, I shouldn't have…"
Before he can finish, Bianca starts sniffling.
"I'm just a secretary anyway. I'll quit tomorrow. Then Cam won't have to see my face anymore."
Declan grabs her hand. She looks up at him through wet lashes, and he practically melts.
Then he turns back to me, annoyed.
"Apologize to Bianca. Now. As long as I'm around, nobody looks down on her!"
Chapter 3
I point right at Bianca's face.
"She mocked what giving birth did to my body. Why should I apologize? She's the one who owes me an apology!"
Declan opens his mouth, but the baby starts crying in the bassinet. I scoop her up and carry her into the bedroom.
She must be hungry. I lay her in her crib and hurry to the kitchen to make a bottle.
Just as I've poured warm water into the bottle and checked the temperature, Bianca appears in front of me.
A nasty little smile curls her lips. "Here, Cam, let me help."
Then she smacks the bottle out of my hand. Water splashes all over my pants, right in the most embarrassing spot.
Bianca bursts out laughing and points at the wet patch. "Everybody, come look! Cam leaked again!"
Declan and his friends come running. The guys double over, pointing at my pants.
"Damn, Mrs. Pryce, the video wasn't enough? You had to give us a live show?"
Declan's face turns thunderous. "Camille, are you trying to humiliate me in front of everyone?"
"The bathroom is right there. You couldn't hold it for ten seconds?"
I bend down and pick up the bottle. "Bianca knocked it out of my hand. That's water."
But Bianca flat-out denies it.
"I literally watched her pee herself. When she saw me looking, she dumped water on her pants to cover it up."
She gives me a smug grin. "It's normal to leak after having a baby. But why lie about it?"
"Maybe Mr. Pryce should buy you some adult diapers. Then you'd stop ruining all your pants."
She pinches her nose and looks me up and down like I'm something stuck to her shoe.
I can't take her two-faced act for one more second. I raise my hand and slap her across the face.
"You're a liar, Bianca!"
Declan pulls her into his arms and whirls on me. "Camille, you psycho! Why the hell did you hit her?"
"You embarrass yourself, and nobody's allowed to say a word about it? Go to the bedroom and change your damn pants!"
But all I can think about is my baby, still crying from hunger. I don't bother changing. I rush to make her another bottle.
When I walk into the bedroom, Bianca is dangling my daughter high in the air. My baby is screaming her lungs out.
I drop the bottle and lunge at her. "Give her back right now! If anything happens to her, I swear I'll kill you!"
Declan just stands there, totally calm. "She's only holding the baby. Why are you freaking out?"
I'm losing my mind. I scream until my throat is raw. "She's a newborn! You can't hold her like that!"
Right then, the sharp smell of pee fills the room.
Declan grabs my wrist and stares at my pants. "Did you just pee yourself again?"
Before I can say anything, Bianca shrieks. "Mr. Pryce, it's the baby! She peed on me!"
Declan lets go of me. His voice is ice cold. "Like mother, like daughter. Both of you leak everywhere."
I snatch my daughter out of Bianca's arms and grab a fresh diaper. But before I can change her, Bianca grabs the diaper and tosses it to one of Declan's buddies.
She smirks. "Let Travis change her. He can get some practice for when he's a dad."
Every hair on my body stands on end. The way Travis looks at women has always made my skin crawl.
There's no way in hell I'm letting him near my daughter.
Clutching my baby to my chest with one arm, I shove Travis and Bianca toward the door with everything I've got.
"I can change my own daughter. All of you, get out!"
Declan glares at me. "They came here to celebrate our daughter. Who kicks out their guests like that?"
I push Declan out too, with every ounce of strength I have left, and lock the door.
He pounds on it for ages. I don't answer.
Finally, he snaps. "Camille, you ruined everything today. Who the hell do you think you are, throwing a fit like that?"
"I'm not coming home tonight. Sit there and think about what you did."
The front door slams behind him. And something inside me shatters right along with it.
