He Wanted Me Weak. He Found Me Dead
I was one of my pack's strongest warriors. Until I lost control one full moon and hurt my own parents. To stop it, I endured monthly rituals to seal my wolf—pure agony. Today, the day before my next sealing, I drank fatal wolvenom. I left a suicide note and a moonstone gift under my pillow. I thought I was saving my family from myself. But just before the ritual, I heard Caleb—my fated mate—say, "We seal her one more time. Keep her weak long enough for Elara to become Lead Warrior." I never lost control. He drugged me. He planned it all. When he found my cold, lifeless body, he shattered.

I was one of my pack’s strongest warriors. But one full moon, I lost control. I even hurt my own parents.
To stop it from happening again, I had to endure a ritual every month to seal my wolf.
It was agony.
Until today. The day before my next sealing.
I took the gift I’d planned to give Caleb at our mating ceremony—a moonstone carved with our names—and placed it under my pillow, along with my suicide note.
Then I drank the fatal wolvenom.
I thought this was the only way. So I wouldn't bring disaster down on my parents and my pack. So my fated mate, Caleb, would never have to worry for me again.
But just before the ritual began, I heard Caleb’s voice.
"Just one last time. Once Elara becomes Lead Warrior, we won't have to seal Seraphina's wolf anymore."
My mother's voice was a shredded sob. "But Seraphina's body is already ruined… What kind of life will she have!"
"It won't be for the rest of her life." Caleb’s voice was low, a mix of guilt and stubbornness. "Once she's recovered, I'll hold the mating ceremony with her. She'll become the pack's Luna."
"I'll make up for everything she's been through."
My father’s voice trembled. "So… is the ritual still happening today?"
"Yes." Caleb was silent for a few seconds. "We seal her one more time. Keep her weak for another month, long enough to miss the trials for Lead Warrior. With Seraphina out of the way, Elara's path will be clear."
So I never lost control at all.
Caleb drugged me. He made me lose my mind, made me think I'd lost control.
He said he'd make it up to me.
Little did he know that just moments before,I'd already swallowed the entire vial of wolvenom.
……
"Once Elara becomes Lead Warrior, we won't have to seal Seraphina's wolf anymore…"
"Once she's recovered, I'll hold the mating ceremony with her…"
"I'll make up for everything she's been through."
"Keep her weak for another month, long enough to miss the trials for Lead Warrior…"
I lay quietly on the cold ritual stone, Caleb's cruel, cold words spinning in my head.
"Don't be nervous, Seraphina. You'll be alright," the High Priest whispered, trying to soothe me when he saw how unnaturally pale I was.
His eyes were full of a pity I didn't want.
I knew. He had to know the truth behind this ritual, too.
But who would dare defy an order from the future Alpha of the pack?
My fingers curled slightly, my palm clenched tight around a small glass vial.
It was empty.
Half an hour ago, behind everyone's back, I'd drunk all of the deadly wolfsbane inside.
The poison was eating away at my organs, inch by inch, but I couldn't feel it.
The physical agony was nothing—not even a fraction of the pain of betrayal.
I closed my eyes, my mind flooded with memories of Caleb and me.
We were childhood sweethearts.
I used to think I was the luckiest she-wolf in the world.
When we were young, I was almost kidnapped by a few rogue wolves. Caleb threw himself in front of me without a second thought, shouting, "I dare you to touch her!"
Later, I grew into the pack's most prized talent, the top candidate for the next Lead Warrior.
The rank of Lead Warrior was second only to the Alpha—the highest honor in the pack. The blade that guarded our people.
Back then, Caleb would stand by my side, proudly announcing to everyone, "This is the pride of our pack, my perfect mate!"
I had always believed, with all my heart, that Caleb loved me more than anyone in the world.
But now, he was standing right outside the door, coldly plotting my destruction.
It all started on that chaotic full moon night a year ago.
After I drank the juice Caleb brought me, the world tilted on its axis. All I remember is shifting into my wolf form against my will, and then, nothing.
When I woke up, I was in my own bed.
My mother's arm was wrapped in thick bandages, and my father's face was marked with deep scratches. They kept their heads down, refusing to meet my eyes.
Caleb sat by my bed, his eyes bloodshot. He told me my wolf had suddenly gone wild, attacking everyone who came near me. Including my parents.
"Seraphina, you almost killed them."
Those words were a dagger straight to my heart.
The High Priest gave his diagnosis. "Her wolf spirit is out of control. If we don't contain it, it could lead to a devastating catastrophe."
His solution was a monthly "Sealing Ritual," using ancient runes to temporarily imprison the wolf inside me.
There was no end date.
It was a death sentence. For a wolf who dreamed of becoming Lead Warrior, sealing my spirit was like having my claws ripped out.
That day, my parents stood by my bed and sobbed. I cried tears of despair.
It was Caleb who held me, telling me firmly, "Even if you can't be a warrior, you're still my mate."
"Your safety is all that matters."
I curled up in his warm embrace and, for the sake of that love, I agreed.
But it was all an elaborate lie.
My parents had lost Elara years ago, and they were consumed by a twisted guilt. So, when Caleb proposed this plan to ruin me—to clear the path for Elara—they went along with it.
There was no loss of control. My parents' injuries were fake.
Caleb had drugged me, making me believe I was a monster.
Caleb's arms were warm, but his heart was ice.

After that, my long "treatment" began.
To make sure the sealing ritual worked, I had to drink a bitter herbal brew every single day.
Caleb was the one who handed me every bowl.
He'd coax me softly, "Seraphina. Drink this. Everything will be okay."
Full of hope, I drank every last drop without complaint.
On top of that, there was the hellish sealing ritual every month.
Forcibly imprisoning a proud wolf deep within one's body is not an easy thing. Each time, the High Priest would carve the binding runes into my skin.
It was a violation, like someone reaching inside my body, binding my very wolf with chains, and pulling them tighter, inch by inch, until she whimpered in agony.
Twelve months. Twelve rounds of hellish torture.
This brutal "treatment" completely broke me.
I was once the pack's brightest star. Everyone assumed I would become the next Lead Warrior.
But now?
I could barely hold my human form.
I'd look at my reflection in the window and see a monster. Sunken eyes, skin the color of ash. My once thick, silky hair was now dry as straw, falling out in clumps on my pillow every day.
I had become a useless burden, a creature who needed help just to eat or dress herself.
"Caleb, why?"
Once, after a ritual, I was convulsing in bed from the pain. I gripped his sleeve in desperation, my voice a raw whisper. "Why am I getting worse? My body can't take it anymore…"
"It's a normal reaction to sealing the wolf." He would always pull me into his arms, stroking my back gently. "Just hang on, Seraphina. Once the broken gift is completely gone, you'll be safe."
And I believed him.
I watched my parents grow gaunt taking care of me. My mother's once bright, gentle eyes lost their light, the corners etched with tired lines. My father was always outside, smoking, his once-straight back now stooped as if under a heavy weight.
One time, my mother was wiping me down with a warm washcloth. When the cloth touched my skeletal arm, she suddenly froze. She covered her face, and her shoulders shook violently as she sobbed.
Watching her, a piece of my own heart cracked.
At the time, I thought she was crying because of my suffering. It was only when I learned the truth that I understood. That wasn't pity. It was the guilt of a mother destroying her own daughter with her own two hands.
They couldn't look me in the eye because they knew, from the very beginning, that I was never sick at all.
I'll admit, I had my doubts about Caleb. Even though his care was almost perfect, a she-wolf's intuition is a sharp, dangerous thing.
Some nights, I couldn't sleep because of the deep, aching pain in my bones. Through the half-open door, I'd see Caleb standing on the balcony. He'd be looking at his phone, a soft, gentle smile on his face. The same smile he used to give me.
"Don't be afraid. I know you can do it…" The night wind snatched his words and threw them at me in broken pieces. "Just get that spot… and everything will be okay."
For a second, I wanted to storm out and demand to know what he was doing.
But then I looked down at my own withered arm, at my pale, gaunt face.
A wave of self-loathing washed over me. I was already a hollowed-out wreck. What right did I have to question a future Alpha, a man with a brilliant future ahead of him?
All I could do was bite my lip until I tasted blood. All I could do was close my eyes and pretend. Pretend I heard nothing. Pretend I was still the mate he cherished most.
Time passed like this.
And under the weight of it all, my body and spirit breaking, I made a decision.

The night before my next sealing ritual, a storm broke outside.
The wind hammered against the glass, but inside my room, the silence was so deep you could hear time itself ticking away.
I leaned against the headboard, calmly putting my affairs in order.
I opened the bottom drawer of my nightstand and took out a small velvet box. Inside lay a perfectly polished moonstone. Engraved deep into the stone were my name and Caleb's.
It was the most sacred token between werewolf mates.
I had been so excited to place it around Caleb's neck myself at our mating ceremony. Now, it would never see the light of day.
I traced the letters of his name, "Caleb," as a tear splashed onto the stone, a cold, silent betrayal of my resolve.
Taking a deep breath, I tucked it under my pillow along with the suicide note I’d already written.
Next, I picked up a photograph, a portrait of my family. In the picture, I was still healthy, my father tall and strong, my mother smiling warmly.
I took a pen and wrote a short sentence on the back:
"Father, Mother, I'm sorry. I'm just so tired."
With my final goodbye written, I opened a hidden compartment in the nightstand. Inside was a small, clear glass vial filled with a black liquid.
Wolfsbane. Caleb had dropped it in the couch cushions during his last visit.
I had secretly researched it. A poison with no known cure for werewolves. A small dose would only induce a deep coma. But a large enough dose would sever a werewolf's connection to life, allowing them to die silently.
There was no antidote. It was a guaranteed death.
I stared at the black liquid swirling in the vial without a trace of hesitation.
I was just so, so tired.
I didn't want to be a burden anymore, someone who needed help with everything. As long as I was alive, I would be a weight on my parents' hearts and a stain on Caleb's perfect life.
If I had to step aside, then let me step out of their world completely.
I clutched the vial of poison in my hand and stayed awake until dawn.
The morning of the ritual, the sun broke through the clouds, painfully bright.
The door opened. My parents and Caleb walked in, their faces etched with genuine concern.
"Seraphina, this is the last one. Be brave. You can do this," Caleb said, kissing my forehead affectionately.
"My good girl, just get through today, and everything will be okay," my mother said, forcing a smile as she smoothed my hair.
My father stood nearby, giving me a firm nod, his fists clenched.
I watched them calmly as they helped me into the white ritual robes and led me toward the cold, windowless chamber.
The vial of wolfsbane was empty.
In the second before they pushed me all the way in, I reached out through our mind-link, sending one final thought directly to them.
"Dad, Mom, I love you."
My father's eyes turned red. My mother froze, tears instantly spilling.
"We love you too, sweetheart."
I took one last, long look at them and was pushed into the chamber.
