The day a video of my husband, Kairo Simpson, and my adopted younger sister, Vienne Silva, sleeping together spread all over the internet, the two of them couldn't handle the shame and jumped from a hotel rooftop together.
When their bodies were brought out, my mother ran over and slapped me hard across the face.
“Wasn't it bad enough that you drugged Kairo back then, made him marry you, and took Vienne's first love away from her?”
“Now you even went as far as releasing a video like this! Will you only be happy after pushing both of them to their deaths?”
Everyone believed that I was the one who posted the photos.
At my adopted younger sister's funeral, my mother wouldn't even let me enter the mourning hall.
And my husband didn't leave me a single word, even before he died.
Blamed for pushing two people to their deaths, I was kicked out by the Simpson family and lost my own mother completely too.
For three long years, I never came back to this city.
Then, three years later, I came back from a business trip and spotted someone familiar outside a maternity and baby store at a shopping mall.
The woman looked seven or eight months pregnant and had her head down as she picked out baby clothes.
And my husband, who had supposedly “jumped to his death” three years ago, was now crouched in front of her, carefully tying her loose shoelace.
Vienne suddenly smiled and asked, “Kairo, when we made Aurelia take the blame for two deaths back then, did you really not feel bad for her at all?”
Kairo didn't even look up as he answered, “A woman who drugged me just to get into my bed—letting her suffer in exchange for three peaceful years for you was the most useful thing she ever did with her life.”
I froze on the spot.
A second later, my mother came out of the store with shopping bags in her hands and smiled as she held a longevity lock against my adopted younger sister's belly.
“This is my early present for the baby.”
Right then, I finally realized the truth.
The two people who supposedly died three years ago were never them.
It was me.
……
The day nude photos of my husband, Kairo, and my adopted younger sister, Vienne, went viral online, the two of them jumped together from a hotel rooftop.
When Mom got to the hospital, she lifted her hand and slapped me hard across the face.
“You drugged Kairo and got into his bed back then, taking away the man Vienne liked. I put up with it! And now you’ve pushed both of them to their deaths. Will you only be happy once you completely tear this family apart?”
The slap left my ears ringing.
I didn’t try to explain because even I thought I was the reason they died.
After the police confirmed that they were both dead, I stayed alone outside the morgue until morning.
From that day on, it felt like part of my life had been taken away from me.
Everyone online knew I was Kairo’s wife, and they also knew Vienne used to like him.
When the video was posted, nobody cared who recorded it, and nobody bothered asking why it was leaked.
They only believed one thing—that I, the hateful older sister, refused to leave them alone.
Some people threw red paint at my front door, some sent dead rats to my house, and others pointed at me during Kairo’s funeral and called me a murderer.
Mom stayed in the crowd and didn’t defend me even once.
For three years, on the anniversary of their deaths each year, I visited the cemetery to pay my respects.
I believed I would never see either of them again for the rest of my life, until three years later, when I spotted Vienne in the maternity and baby section of a shopping mall.
Her belly was big, and she held a pair of tiny socks for a newborn baby.
Kairo stood next to her, holding shopping bags in one hand while keeping his other arm naturally around her waist.
And my mother was bent down in front of Vienne, holding a longevity lock against her pregnant belly.
“Grandma’s little baby, just one more month and we’ll finally get to see you.”
I stood there in the crowd and almost forgot how to breathe.
For a moment, I even thought I might be dreaming again.
But now he was really standing right in front of me. His face looked the same, and his voice sounded the same. The only difference was that the woman he was helping now was Vienne.
Kairo noticed me first. A few meters away, with the crowd between us, the smile on his face slowly faded.
Vienne noticed where he was looking and turned around, and the baby socks slipped from her hand and dropped to the floor.
“Sister?”
I said nothing. I just kept looking at Kairo.
He started walking toward me.
My eyes suddenly burned, and my voice shook. “Kairo, you’re still alive?”
He stopped for a second.
Without thinking, I lifted my hand and tried to touch his face.
But before I could reach him, he stepped back.
A second later, he moved in front of Vienne to protect her. “Don’t touch her.”
My hand stopped in the air. “You’re worried I’ll touch her?”
Kairo pulled his brows together slightly. “Vienne is pregnant. She can’t take any kind of shock.”
I suddenly laughed.
So when my husband, who had supposedly come back from the dead, saw me, the first thing he did wasn’t explain why he was still alive, but worry that I might hurt another woman.
Vienne’s eyes were already turning red. “Aurelia, I’m sorry. I know you probably can’t accept any of this right now, but things were complicated back then. We never meant to…”
“When did you come back from the dead?”
I looked at her. “The day after the hospital said you were dead? A month later? Or were you never dead in the first place?”
Neither of them answered.
Kairo looked away.
Just then, I finally noticed Mom standing next to them.
The whole time, she hadn’t looked surprised at all.
“Mom.”
She went stiff.
“You just found out today too, didn’t you?”
Mom avoided looking at me. “Aurelia, there are too many people around. No matter what happened, we’ll talk about it when we get home.”
I grabbed her hand. “I’m asking you, when did you know? Did you already know when they pretended to be dead?”
Mom quickly pulled her hand away. “Enough! Three years have already passed. Do you really need to cause a scene here and embarrass everyone?”
I stared at her blankly.
But Vienne suddenly held her belly. “Kairo, my stomach hurts…”
Kairo’s face changed right away, and he bent down and lifted her into his arms.
Mom became worried too, pushing me out of the way as she rushed after them.

I wasn’t ready for it, and my lower back hit the counter hard.
A glass near the edge fell, and the broken pieces cut across my palm. Blood started pouring out right away, and the pain made me gasp.
Mom heard the noise and looked back. When she noticed the blood on my palm, I thought she would walk over to me.
But she just frowned. “Vienne is pregnant. Stop upsetting her. You already hurt her once before. Wasn’t that enough?”
After saying that, she quickly hurried after them.
Kairo held Vienne in his arms, while Mom stayed close beside them. The three of them soon vanished behind the elevator doors.
I stood there with broken glass scattered all over the floor, while blood fell from my palm one drop at a time.
Only then did I realize that three years ago, maybe I was the only one who actually died.
I went to the hospital and needed four stitches.
Once the wound was treated, the nurse told me to sit in the hallway and wait for the observation results.
I had barely sat down when I heard someone behind me call out with some doubt, “Mrs. Simpson?”
I looked back. It was Doctor Sanchez, the doctor who treated me three years earlier.
She looked at me for a long moment before she was sure it was really me. “It really is you?”
She looked at my bandaged hand. “Why are you back at the hospital? How have you been feeling? Your miscarriage hurt your body badly back then. I was worried you might still have some problems afterward.”
The hallway suddenly went quiet.
I looked up.
At some point, Kairo had shown up a short distance away. He still had Vienne’s examination report in his hand.
“What miscarriage?”
Doctor Sanchez froze.
I stayed quiet.
Kairo quickly walked over. “You were pregnant?”
I looked down at the gauze wrapped around my palm.
The memories from three years earlier suddenly came back to me.
Seven days after Kairo “died,” I threw up badly in the bathroom.
When I saw two red lines on the pregnancy test, I sat on the floor and cried for a long time.
For the first time since his death, I felt like I still had a reason to keep living.
I even visited his grave and placed the ultrasound report next to the tombstone. “Kairo, I’ll have this baby. When he gets a little older, I’ll bring him here to see you.”
Later, people online discovered my address. Some waited outside my building and called me a murderer, while others followed me around to record videos.
The day someone shoved me down, the blood on my dress just wouldn’t stop.
I lay in the emergency room and called Mother seventeen times, but she didn’t answer even once.
In the end, the baby still couldn’t be saved.
Kairo looked at me. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
I looked at him.
“Tell who? You on the tombstone?”
His face went pale right away, as if he wanted to say something.
But Vienne suddenly called out from the hospital room. “Kairo.”
Kairo turned around without even thinking.
It was only one small move, but all the feelings that had just come up inside me slowly faded away again.
Mom walked out of the hospital room.
Kairo looked at her and asked, “Why didn’t anyone tell me?”
Mom replied coldly, “You were already gone at the time. What good would telling you have done? Besides, something happened to Vienne back then too. I couldn’t look after her.”
I looked at her. “So now Vienne only has some fetal instability, and you’re already this worried.”
Mom frowned. “She’s not the same as you.”
I paused for a second. “What makes her different?”
She didn’t reply.
Kairo, though, looked over at me.
A second later, Vienne called out his name from the hospital room again.
He still turned away and went back inside.
I watched him walk away and didn’t stay any longer.
As I walked out of the hospital, my phone suddenly started ringing.
It was an unknown number. “Miss Aurelia.”
The man on the phone spoke very politely. “Everything for your return has already been arranged. Just as planned, we’ll come pick you up in seven days.”
I stopped walking. Behind the glass doors, Kairo had already gone back into Vienne’s hospital room.
“Understood.”
“Sir and Madam have also been waiting for you.”
I stayed quiet for a moment.
“See you in seven days.”

Two days later, it was Mom’s birthday.
For the first time in three years, she called me herself and asked me to come home for dinner.
I knew very well that I shouldn’t go, but in the end, I went anyway.
When I opened the door, Vienne was sitting in the seat that used to be mine, with the diamond bracelet Grandmother had left behind around her wrist.
When I was young, Mom told me that one day, the bracelet would be passed down to my child.
Now, she smiled as she rubbed Vienne’s belly. “When the baby is born, this will be Grandma’s first gift.”
I sat down.
Halfway into dinner, Kairo suddenly said, “Aurelia, let’s get divorced first.”
I looked at him.
He looked completely calm. “Vienne is about to give birth. After the baby is born, some paperwork will be hard to deal with. We’ll get a fake divorce first. Once the baby is born and everything is settled, we’ll get married again.”
I looked at him.
Kairo frowned before adding, “It’s only temporary. Aurelia, you don’t need to be so petty about it.”
Mom also spoke indifferently, “It’s just a formality. Don’t make trouble again.”
I ignored her and kept my eyes on Kairo. “So you’ve already made this decision?”
He stayed quiet for a few seconds, and I suddenly wanted to laugh.
Three years ago, he and Vienne pretended to be dead, leaving me here by myself to take the blame for two deaths.
Three years later, he came back and once again assumed that if he promised we would get married again later, I would simply keep waiting for him.
I nodded. “Okay.”
Kairo looked surprised. “You agree?”
“Yeah.”
Vienne lowered her head and rubbed her belly, a small smile forming on her lips.
Only Kairo kept watching me.
It was as if my agreeing so quickly had made him a little uneasy instead.
After dinner, as I walked past the study, I suddenly heard Mom’s voice from inside.
“She already agreed to the divorce. What are you still worried about?”
Vienne said quietly, “I’m afraid Aurelia will keep looking into what happened three years ago.”
Mom went quiet for a moment. “She won’t find anything. I already dealt with the medical records from back then.”
I stopped walking.
Vienne asked again, “What if she really finds out?”
Mom’s voice became cold. “So what if she finds out? You’re my biological daughter. She lived the life that should’ve been yours for more than twenty years. She’s already gotten enough.”
I froze where I stood.
Half a year earlier, someone had found me.
They placed a paternity test in front of me and told me that I wasn’t the biological daughter of the Silva family.
My biological parents had been looking for me for more than twenty years.
I didn’t believe them. But it turned out everything was true.
The next afternoon, Kairo asked me to meet him at a law firm.
Only the last page of the agreement was left.
He gave me the pen. “Sign it. Once Vienne gives birth to the baby, we’ll get married again.”
Just as I reached for it, Vienne suddenly called from across the street. “Kairo.”
She stood there with one hand on her waist.
Kairo frowned. “Didn’t I tell you to stay in the car?”
Vienne was about to answer.
The light turned green, and the crowd started moving forward.
The next second, the loud sound of a horn suddenly rang out.
Someone shouted, “Get out of the way!”
A delivery truck that had lost control sped into the intersection.
Vienne wasn’t far from me. Kairo didn’t hesitate at all. He ran past me and pulled Vienne toward the side of the road.
The next second, the truck hit the side of my body.
The impact knocked me into the air, and I landed hard on the ground.
Pain shot from my shoulder down to my chest, and people screamed around me.
Not far away, Kairo held Vienne in his arms. “Are you hurt anywhere?”
Vienne’s face was completely pale. “My stomach hurts.”
He quickly bent down and picked her up. Only then did he finally notice me lying on the ground.
His footsteps paused.
I waited for him to come over, but Vienne suddenly cried out from the pain.
Kairo quickly looked away. “Call an ambulance!”
The first ambulance arrived, and he went with Vienne.
I stayed where I was.
When Mom hurried over after hearing what happened, I was still on the side of the road waiting for the second ambulance.
The first thing she asked after stopping a passerby was, “Where’s Vienne?”
Someone told her that Vienne had already been taken to the hospital, and she immediately turned to leave.
Trying to bear the pain, I called after her, “Mom.”
Only then did she look back. When she noticed the blood on my arm, she stopped for a moment. “You’re hurt too?”
I suddenly had no idea what else to say.
In the end, she still turned to leave. “I’ll go check on Vienne first. Go to the hospital on your own.”
As the ambulance doors shut, my phone started ringing.
It was the same number again.
“Miss Aurelia, we heard you were in an accident. Do you want us to pick you up sooner?”
I rested against the stretcher. “How soon can you come?”
“The night after tomorrow.”
I stayed quiet for a few seconds. “Okay.”

When I got to the hospital, I was diagnosed with a fracture in my right arm and a minor rib fracture.
The doctor told me to stay at the hospital for observation for two days.
Not long after I got back to the hospital room, Kairo showed up.
He stood by the door, and there was still some blood on his shirt. It was probably Vienne’s.
When he saw me looking at him, he explained, “Vienne is fine, and the baby is safe too.”
I didn’t ask.
He paused, walked over to the bedside, and put a document envelope in front of me. “There’s something we need you to cooperate with.”
I looked down at it. It was a public statement.
The fact that Kairo and Vienne had pretended to be dead for three years could no longer be hidden.
Vienne was about to give birth, and after the baby was born, they would need to handle various procedures. Kairo was also getting ready to take over the Simpson family’s company again.
They had to show themselves in public again.
I went over the pages one by one.
It wasn’t until I got to the end that I realized why he had come to see me.
The statement said that after the video was leaked three years ago, Kairo and Vienne faced severe online abuse. To protect Vienne, the Simpson family had no choice but to hide the fact that the two of them were still alive.
As for me, there was just one sentence.
“The incident was a private family dispute.”
I stared at it for a long time, then suddenly laughed. “Three years ago, everyone said I was the one who leaked the video, that I drove my husband and younger sister to their deaths. Now that you’ve come back alive, you still don’t plan to tell them that I didn’t kill anyone?”
Kairo frowned. “It’s been so long. There’s no point in finding out who leaked the video anymore. Besides, the most important thing with public opinion right now is explaining why we’re still alive.”
We.
When I heard that word, I suddenly found it almost funny.
He and Vienne were “we.”
And I was just a small problem they needed to deal with.
Kairo handed me another document. “There’s a press conference tomorrow afternoon. You’ll attend with us.”
I didn’t take it. “What am I going there for?”
“The media will definitely ask why you didn’t know I was still alive for the past three years.”
He spoke calmly. “When the time comes, you only need to say that you knew about the fake deaths back then and that it was a decision we made together after talking about it.”
The hospital room stayed quiet for a few seconds.
I even wondered if I had heard him wrong. “You want me to tell everyone that I knew all along you weren’t dead?”
“Just say that in public.”
Kairo lowered his voice. “Aurelia, this is the fastest way to deal with it.”
I looked at him and suddenly asked, “Then what about me?”
He paused.
“What?”
“For the past three years, I cleaned your grave, burned paper offerings for you, and had people blocking my doorstep and calling me a murderer. If I knew all along that you were alive, how do you explain any of that?”
Kairo went quiet.
I didn’t bring up that child again.
After a long time, he finally said, “Those things already happened anyway. You only need to cooperate this one time.”
I looked at him.
Three years ago, they lied to me once.
Three years later, they came back alive and still wanted me to personally prove that there had never been a victim in their entire lie.
That way, they could start over with no problems. As for how I had spent these past three years, it didn’t matter at all.
The door suddenly opened.
Vienne stood there with one hand on her waist, with Mom beside her.
Her face was still a little pale, but her eyes were red. “Aurelia, just help us this one time. The child is about to be born. If Kairo’s fake death turns into a huge scandal, what will he do in the future?”
Mom looked at me too. “It’s only a few sentences. Do you really have to make things hard for everyone?”
I looked at the three people standing in front of me.
Suddenly, I felt there was no reason to keep arguing.
“Okay, I’ll go tomorrow.”
Vienne clearly let out a breath of relief, and Mom’s expression relaxed too.
Only Kairo kept looking at me, but in the end, he didn’t ask anything.
The next afternoon, the venue was packed with reporters.
Kairo and Vienne were already there.
Vienne wore a loose white dress and sat next to him, her face still a little pale. Mom sat on the other side. From the moment I walked in, she kept looking at me.
A staff member gave me the prepared statement.
The very first sentence said: “I knew about everything that happened three years ago from start to finish.”
I looked at it for two seconds, then closed it.
So not only did they want me to help them keep up their lie, but they also wanted me to personally tell everyone that all the suffering I had gone through over these three years had been my own choice.
第5章
Kairo noticed what I did and reminded me quietly, “Aurelia, we agreed yesterday.”
“I remember.”
I picked up the statement and walked onto the stage.
The camera flashes below immediately went off, and someone quickly recognized me.
“Aurelia Silva?”
“She’s Kairo’s wife?”
“Didn’t they say back then that she leaked the video and drove her husband and younger sister to their deaths?”
The voices around me grew louder and louder.
Just as the host was about to calm everyone down, Vienne suddenly stood up.
“Sister.”
She walked over to me and suddenly knelt down. In front of all the cameras, she started crying hard. “I know you’ve been treated unfairly these past three years. What happened back then was my fault.”
The room immediately became much quieter.
I looked at her without saying anything.
But Vienne suddenly reached out and grabbed my wrist, which was my injured right hand.
Pain shot deep into my bones, and I quickly pulled my hand back.
The next second, Vienne suddenly stumbled backward. There were steps right behind her.
Before I could react, she had already fallen down.
With a loud thud, the entire room broke into chaos.
“Vienne!” Kairo suddenly ran over.
Vienne curled up on the ground, holding her belly tightly.
A little blood slowly appeared beneath the bottom of her white dress.
People around us gasped.
“She’s bleeding!”
“Call an ambulance!”
“Did Aurelia push her just now?”
All the cameras turned toward me at once. I stood on the steps.
I could even hear someone saying:
“She drove them to jump off a building three years ago, and now she even dares to push a pregnant woman?”
“Is this woman crazy?”
Vienne was covered in cold sweat from the pain, but she still held onto Kairo’s sleeve. “Kairo, don’t blame Aurelia. I just lost my balance…”
As soon as she said that, everyone around us became even more worked up.
Kairo raised his head and walked straight toward me.
Slap!
The sudden slap left my ears ringing a little.
“She still has a child in her belly!” Kairo shouted.
Three years ago, when I was lying in the emergency room, there had also been a child in my belly.
It was just that back then, no one knew.
I looked at him. “I didn’t push her.”
Before Kairo could say anything, Mom had already hurried over. “So many people saw it. What are you still trying to argue about? Aurelia, when did you become like this?”
I ignored her and only looked at the large screen behind them.
“Wasn’t this being livestreamed the whole time just now?”
Everyone around us slowly went quiet. I pointed at the screen. “Replay it.”
Vienne’s expression clearly changed.
The staff stood there without moving.
I repeated, “Play the video from now.”
With so many media outlets there and things already getting this serious, no one dared to refuse outright.
Very soon, the scene from just now played again on the large screen.
Vienne walked toward me and grabbed my hand. I pulled my hand away, and she fell down the steps.
When I watched it the first time, it really did look like I had pushed her.
People below the stage started talking again. “Isn’t that obvious?”
I said calmly, “Slow it down.”
The video started again. This time, it played at half speed.
I looked at the screen. “Stop.”
The video froze. Vienne was holding my hand, while my hand hadn’t touched her body at all.
This time, everyone could see it clearly.
After I pulled my hand back, Vienne had already caught her balance, but the next second, she let go on her own.
Then she stepped backward and happened to miss the step.
The venue suddenly became completely quiet. The reporters who had just been calling me names all stopped talking.
Kairo also looked up at the large screen.
Vienne’s face went completely pale. “No… I was just dizzy at the time. Kairo, I didn’t…”
I looked down at the statement in my hand, then placed it back on the table in front of everyone.
“So I won’t read this statement today.”
Kairo suddenly looked up. “Aurelia!”
Vienne quickly looked at me.
I looked at the audience. “Three years ago, I had no idea that Kairo and Vienne were still alive. Before that video came out, I didn’t even know they were at the same hotel. As for who posted it, you should ask the two people in the video.”
After saying that, I turned around and walked away.
The noise behind me almost shook the entire venue, but none of it mattered to me anymore.
I had just stepped out of the hotel when a sudden commotion started outside.
The driveway that had been crowded earlier was already cleared.
Two Bentleys led the way, followed closely by six black Rolls-Royces. The extended Phantom in the middle slowly stopped in front of the hotel.
The reporters immediately turned their cameras toward it.
“Is that the Snyder family’s motorcade?”
“Why would the car in the middle be here?”
Kairo ran after me. The moment he saw the license plate, he suddenly stopped.
The next second, all the car doors opened.
A man in a suit quickly walked over to me. When he saw my injured right arm, his face immediately changed.
“Miss, you’re hurt?”
Kairo’s expression changed. “You came to pick her up?”
The man took my bag and opened the Phantom’s door for me. “Sir and Madam have been waiting for you for a long time.”
Kairo suddenly called after me, “Aurelia Silva!”
The man turned around and calmly corrected him.
“Mr. Simpson.”
“Our Miss’s surname is not Silva.”
