The day I went into labor with our quadruplets, my fated mate Alpha Caleb took the Moonflower potion—the Elders' rare elixir meant to protect me—and gave it to another she-wolf going into labor. He locked me in the manor, ignored my cries, even as blood pooled at my feet. "Serena is my best friend's widow," he said coldly. "I promised to take care of her. Stay quiet and don't disturb her." He stayed by her side all night. When he finally remembered me, a guard's trembling voice came through: "Alpha, the manor is on fire. The Luna... she's gone." In that moment, the stoic Alpha Caleb broke.

The day I went into labor with our quadruplets, my fated mate, Alpha Caleb, took the Moonflower potion. The Elders prepared this rare elixir specifically to protect me and ensure a safe delivery. All because another she-wolf, Serena, was also going into labor. He locked me in the manor, ignoring my pained cries, even after my water had broken. Caleb’s voice was cold. “Serena is the widow of my best friend, Ethan. He died saving my life, and I promised him I’d take care of her. I can’t break my promise.” "She’s always been fragile, and she’s delivering today. You still have three days until your due date. Relax, once she delivers safely, I'll find another Moonflower for you. It won't hurt our pups. Until then, stay quiet and don't disturb Serena." I begged him, blood pooling at my feet, to come back and take me to the hospital. But he coldly shut me out of our mind-link. Caleb stayed by Serena’s side all night, not leaving until she safely delivered her pup. Only then did he finally remember me. But a guard’s trembling voice came through the phone. “Alpha, the manor… it’s on fire. The room is covered in blood, and the Luna… she’s gone.” In that moment, the stoic Alpha Caleb broke. …… "Caleb, put the potion down." I stood in front of him, my hands cradling my swollen belly. Heavy with rare quadruplets, I could barely stand straight. He shoved the vial of Moonflower Potion into his pocket. "Serena's in labor. She needs this." “The elders prepared that for me!” My voice trembled. “I’m carrying four pups. Without the Moonflower, I could die in childbirth. Caleb, they’re your children, too!” “But your due date isn’t for another three days,” Caleb said, his eyes meeting mine with a flicker of impatience. “And Serena has always been frail. Without this, she and her pup could die on the operating table. Stella, Ethan died saving me. I promised I’d look after his widow.” “But I think I’m going into labor too… I’ve been having pains all day…” “Enough.” Caleb cut me off coldly. “You used that same excuse to pull me away from Serena’s side when she fell last time. Stella, you’re being selfish. To make sure you don’t bother Serena today, you’re staying here.” "Caleb…" "I warned you." He turned and walked away. The heavy door swung shut in my face, followed by the sound of a lock clicking into place. I stood frozen for a few seconds before it sank in. I rushed to the door, pounding on it with my fists. "Caleb! Open the door! Don't lock me in here!" No response. "Open the door! I'm serious, I'm really going into labor!" As my panic surged, a warm gush of liquid ran down my legs. My water broke. I looked down at the spreading puddle at my feet, and fear, cold as ice, shot through me. "Help!" I slammed my hands against the door with all my strength. "Guards! Is anyone out there? I'm in labor, call a doctor!" Footsteps approached and stopped outside. "Luna." It was Marcus, one of the oldest guards in the pack. "The Alpha ordered us not to disturb you. He said you were… unstable today." "I'm not unstable! My water broke!" "Luna, the Alpha said you might say that, but your due date isn't today." "Marcus!" My voice broke into a sob. "I'm your Luna! I order you to open this door!" His voice remained hard. "I'm sorry, Luna. The Alpha's orders are absolute." The footsteps faded away. I slid to the floor as a sharp, twisting pain ripped through my abdomen, forcing me to curl into a ball. No, I couldn't just wait here to die. I crawled to the living room, fumbled for a dagger in a drawer, and stumbled back to the door. I tried to pick the lock. The dagger scraped uselessly against the metal with a clang. I tried again. The lock didn't budge. Wiping sweat from my eyes, I looked closer. The lock was reinforced with a new alloy casing. It was new. When did he change it? A bitter, powerless smile touched my lips. This wasn't a spur-of-the-moment decision. He had planned this all along. To lock me away, to clear the path for Serena. Another, more violent contraction hit me, and I collapsed. The blood was already soaking the hem of my dress. I felt a faint stir from the pups inside me, and a new wave of determination washed over me. I couldn't give up. Not on my babies. I focused, pushing with all my might to reach Caleb through our mind-link. Caleb, please. But his side of the link was a cold, hard wall. He had blocked me. I pulled out my phone, my fingers trembling as I dialed his number. He declined, again and again. I kept dialing as I crawled toward the sofa, every breath feeling like my insides were being torn apart. A long, dark trail of blood followed me. On the twenty-seventh try, he answered. "Stella." His voice was thick with annoyance. "Are you done with your tantrum? I'm busy with Serena. Can you stop being a jealous brat for one minute?" "Caleb…" My teeth chattered. "My water broke… I'm bleeding, the babies are coming…" He scoffed, a sound full of scorn. “Stella, you’ll really say anything to get me to come back, won’t you?” "I'm not…" "That's enough," he cut in. "I have to deal with things here. Stop bothering me.” He was about to hang up. I looked down at the growing pool of blood beneath me, at my own purple fingertips, and used my last ounce of strength to scream into the phone, "Caleb, for the sake of our pups, just call a doctor!"

For a split second, the line went silent. In that instant, a sliver of my agony shot through our mate bond, the one he’d almost completely severed. I heard him gasp. "Stella…" His cold tone finally cracked. "You…" "I'm not lying." I pressed my cheek to the cold floor, tears mixing with the sweat on my face. "Caleb, I'm really dying." He was silent. In the tiny crack of our link he’d left open, I could feel his hesitation, his panic. "...I'll have a doctor check on you," he finally said. "If I find out you're lying, you…" "Ahhh!" Suddenly, a piercing scream erupted from the other end of the line. It was Serena. It was followed by the sound of frantic footsteps and a nurse shouting, "Alpha! She's hemorrhaging! Her blood pressure is dropping!" "Serena!" Caleb’s voice was sharp with fear. "Stay with me, look at me…" "Caleb!" I croaked his name. "Hold on, Stella. I'll send someone over later." The line went dead. I held the phone, staring blankly at the "Call Ended" message on the screen. So, even if I was truly dying, it meant less to him than the slightest possibility of danger to Serena. Another contraction seized me, and I curled into a ball, biting my own wrist to keep from screaming. I don't know how much time passed. Half an hour? An hour? My phone suddenly rang again. I practically lunged for it. "Caleb!" "You did this, didn't you." His voice was like ice. "What?" "I just caught a pack medic trying to inject anesthetics into Serena's IV. That's what caused the hemorrhage," he growled. "She confessed. She said the Luna ordered her to do it." My mind went blank. "...What are you talking about?" "Stella, I am so disappointed in you," he sneered. "I thought you were just selfish. I never thought you could be this vicious. How can someone like you be the mother of my pups?" "It wasn't me!" I screamed, a metallic taste flooding my throat. "Caleb, I can't even get out the door! I don't know any nurses! Someone framed me!" "Enough." He was lost in his own rage, deaf to my pleas. “I know you're jealous of Serena. I told you it's because she's Ethan's widow, but you refuse to listen. And now you try to kill her!” “No, no…” I shook my head weakly, unable to say anything else. We were destined mates. I had been his Luna for five years. But none of that mattered next to Serena. “I see now that all your talk of dying was just another lie. Stella, this time, you will be punished.” “I was about to send Beta Ryan to get you, but now I see you don't need it! I'm pulling the guards. You can stay there and think about what you've done until you learn your lesson!” I looked at the blood beneath me, at my own weak body, and let out a hollow, mocking laugh. I was his Luna, yet he punished me for a crime I didn't commit while I actively miscarried his pups. Could anything be more absurd? I lay there, helpless, as waves of intense pain washed over me. The next second, the lights overhead flickered and died with a pop. The entire manor plunged into darkness. Then, the hum of the air conditioning stopped. The night air grew cold, the chill from the marble floor seeping into my bones. I knew this was also Caleb's punishment. He wanted me to "reflect" in the cold and dark. I lay in the pool of blood and began to shiver, this time from the cold. The pups inside me seemed to sense something was wrong. Their movements became frantic, then weak, like a desperate plea for help. "Babies…" I pressed a hand to my belly, tears hitting the floor. "I'm sorry, Mommy is so sorry…" I don't know how much later it was when I heard a sound at the door. I looked up, a flicker of hope in my heart. The door opened. Standing in the doorway was Caleb's Beta, Ryan. “Luna, are you alright? I was worried, so I came to check on you, against the Alpha's orders…” The next second, he saw me lying in a pool of blood. “Oh, goddess… Luna, what happened? Why is there so much blood!” In a panic, he pulled out his phone and started a video call with Caleb. “Alpha! It's not good! The Luna wasn't lying, she's in premature labor! Her water broke a long time ago, there's blood everywhere!”

Caleb was silent for a moment. I thought that this time, he would finally agree to send me to the hospital. But then, his cold, mocking voice came through the phone. “Ryan, who gave you the nerve to defy my orders? Have you started lying for her, too? What did she offer you?” “Alpha! I’m not lying! The Luna has lost a lot of blood, she’s incredibly weak, and she needs a doctor now! Look, if you don’t believe me!” Ryan yelled, desperate. He was about to point the phone at me, but just then, I heard a cheer from Caleb’s end. “Miss Serena has given birth! It’s a healthy pup! This is wonderful!” Caleb completely forgot about Ryan. He was so excited, he didn’t even hang up the phone. I could hear the fragmented chatter in the background: “Look at the Alpha, he cares so much for Serena and her pup… He held her hand the whole time… when the pup was born, he was so happy he almost cried. If you didn’t know better, you’d think he was the father…” “Yeah, he definitely cares more about them than the Luna.” And then I heard Caleb, acting like Serena’s devoted mate, comforting her gently. “Serena, I swear, I will love this child as my own.” “He will want for nothing and hold the same status as a trueborn heir of this pack.” I listened to it all, listening to my mate celebrate another woman and her child while the little lives inside me faded away. My own heart seemed to die in that moment. “It’s okay. You can hang up now,” I whispered. I no longer hoped Caleb would remember me or our children. I turned my pleading eyes to Ryan. “Ryan, please… take me to the hospital. Not for me. For my children… please.” Ryan looked at me, covered in blood, his eyes filled with pity and conflict. He gritted his teeth and finally decided to defy his Alpha again. “Okay, Luna. I’ll take you.” As Ryan turned to get the car ready, I pushed myself up, using the wall for support. I looked around the manor I had lived in for five years. I once thought it was my home, but now it felt like a cold tomb. I grabbed the lighter from the table and set the curtains ablaze. The flames shot up, consuming the wedding portrait of Caleb and me that hung on the wall. Just like my love for him, it all turned to ash. “Luna! What are you doing?!” Ryan cried out. I watched the roaring fire and said softly, “I never want to see this place again. And I’m never coming back.”
