Chapter 1 Darren's POV I was dragging a thug by the hair and kicking him viciously in the groin when my wealthy birth parents, Josiah Gunther and Yvonne Jackson, walked in on me after tracking me down. "How dare you cheat on my friend with some side chick and have the nerve to come back and boss her around? Did you leave your brain somewhere?" I nearly beat the thug to a pulp in front of Josiah and Yvonne, who, just moments ago, had been crying tears of joy over finding their long-lost son. I ended up turning them into two dumbfounded bystanders. I clapped my hands together in satisfaction once I noticed that the thug couldn't get back on his feet. I turned to my parents, who were dressed to the nines, and said, "I was kidnapped for so many years, and the orphanage was less than 60 miles away from you. I find it hard to believe that it took you guys 20 years just to find me. I think you never even wanted to find me in the first place." Josiah and Yvonne looked visibly flustered for a moment. After all, as members of the upper class, they had never had anyone speak to them so crudely before. I asked, "Didn't you come here to reunite with your biological son? Do you plan to go through with it or not?" Josiah and Yvonne finally snapped out of it. Yvonne walked over, took my hand, and said, "We finally found you after all this time, Darren." They kept saying that they loved me, but in my past life, they had been the ones to drive me into the abyss. I stared intently at them, my eyes brimming with hatred. If they didn't like me being the obedient one, then I figured I might as well stop pretending this time. I yanked my hand out of Yvonne's grip and said coldly, "I'm your biological son. Now that we've been reunited, you should at least give me a welcome gift." I reached out my hand and said, "I hear your family has plenty of money, so give me 450 thousand dollars." Josiah scowled and cast a confused glance over me. "What are you going to do with that much money?" I replied flatly, "I suffered so much mistreatment in that orphanage over the years. Now that I've got someone backing me, I'm naturally going to get my revenge." Josiah looked visibly annoyed as he said, "How could you still be hung up on something that happened years ago? That's not how a Gunther should behave—we're not that petty." I ignored the gazes of the passersby around us and lifted my shirt to show the ugly surgical scar along my ribs, then rolled up my sleeves to let them see the cigarette burn marks on my arms. "I got this scar from the surgery I needed after the orphanage director broke my ribs with a kick. Your son went missing for 20 years and has one fewer rib than everyone else. You really think that's no big deal? "I got these cigarette burn marks when that creep tried to molest me. He burned me out of spite just because I fought back. Do you think I'm being petty? "Do you know that a girl in the orphanage nearly got destroyed by that creep just because she was trying to protect me? She's still locked up like a dog in a mental asylum right now! How could I not hold a grudge over that?" Yvonne burst into tears on the spot. She reached out to touch the terrible scar on my waist but pulled her hand back like she'd gotten an electric shock the moment she made contact. She was terrified that even a light touch would hurt me. Chapter 2 Darren's POV In my past life, being around these two people and their upper-class presence made my inferiority complex even worse. I was so nervous that I could barely string a sentence together. Nicholas Gunther, their adopted son, bullied me. Mabel Gunther, my biological sister, despised me. Josiah and Yvonne didn't like me. Doreen Hall, the housekeeper, looked down on me. I did everything I could to act like the obedient child they wanted. I never competed for anything or fought with anyone, and I even stopped contacting the people I had grown up with at the orphanage just to keep them happy. In return, all my obedience got me was endless suffering and one false accusation after another. Josiah and Yvonne only had a look of relief on their faces the day I was wrongfully condemned to death by the family and pushed into the cremation furnace. There wasn't even a single trace of sadness on their faces. Even when I died, they had never bothered to change my name from Darren Lussier to Darren Gunther. Thankfully, I had been given another chance at life. This time, I wasn't going to suck up to anyone in this family. If anyone dared to come at me, I'd bite back hard. I looked down at Yvonne, who was sobbing with her arms around me, and shoved her away. Then I turned to Josiah, who was standing nearby with a guilty expression. "Just cut the crap and tell me if you're going to give me the 450 thousand dollars I asked for." I received my very first bank card, which was linked to an account with three million dollars in it. That amount was barely a drop in the bucket for the Gunther family, one of the richest and most influential families around. Nicholas could easily spend tens of thousands of dollars on a single pair of shoes. Once I got the money, I went straight to the mental asylum and forced them to release Jennie Lussier, the one who had protected me back in the orphanage. I didn't hold back when I told Josiah to get her into the best-equipped facility and find her the best psychiatrist. Once I had handled everything, I sent a message in the group chat. Before long, a group of people my age showed up on their delivery bikes. They were my close friends from the orphanage, basically family even though we had no blood relation. Having left the orphanage, none of us got some lucky break that changed our lives—most of us were still struggling to get by, working long hours every day just to earn enough to live. I gave each one of them 75 thousand dollars. It was the startup money for their lives, but it was also the money I paid to hire them to beat someone up. That night, more than 30 people barged into the orphanage on the outskirts of the city and dragged a sleeping Kevin Brown, the orphanage director, to a nearby empty lot. They then proceeded to beat him mercilessly for more than half an hour. I pressed a burning cigarette butt onto Kevin's eyelid. He had already passed out, but the pain jolted him back to consciousness, prompting him to let out a deafening scream. In the midst of Kevin's blood-curdling screams, I spotted an undisguised look of terror in Josiah's and Yvonne's eyes as they watched from a short distance away. The others and I were 16 years old when we finally escaped that orphanage, but we carried what had happened there with us for the rest of our lives. Now, we finally had our chance to get revenge. I held my phone out to Kevin and said calmly, "Call the police." Kevin was scared. He knew better than anyone what would happen if the police were called. There were more than 30 witnesses standing right there, and every one of them was living proof of his crimes. I watched my close friends ride off on their delivery bikes once everything was over. I then turned around and got into the luxury car waiting behind me. Yvonne looked at the person slowly crawling across the empty lot, clearly unable to stomach it. "Are we just going to leave him there?" I didn't even bother to hide my contempt. "You can save your sympathy for something that actually matters. He used to make me stand outside naked in the freezing winter and splash cold water on me. "If my friends hadn't saved me using hot water and thin, worn-out blankets, you'd be digging up my bones in this lot right now to get a paternity test done instead." Chapter 3 Darren's POV I looked at Josiah and Yvonne with a neutral expression and said, "I'm all done here, so let's head home." In that instant, the car revved up and drove toward the brightly lit city center. An hour later, it came to a halt in front of a grand three-story villa. I had once again returned to the place that had stripped away everything I had. In my past life, I had given up who I was just to please them. In this life, I wasn't going to indulge any of them. Having already seen my unhinged side, Josiah and Yvonne were noticeably more cautious around me this time. "Y-you can consider this place your home from now on, Darren…" Nicholas, the fake heir of the Gunther family, was standing right at the main entrance alongside Mabel, my hopelessly foolish sister. Mabel glared at me. "What took you so long? You need to stop acting so entitled. The whole family doesn't revolve around you, Darren!" Nicholas beamed at me. "Welcome home, Darren!" The very next second, I grabbed Nicholas by the collar and drove his face straight into the nearby pillar. I then turned around and glared at Josiah and Yvonne, snarling, "It's no wonder you couldn't find me for 20 years! You were too busy raising an impostor in your house!" Mabel exclaimed, "What the hell are you doing? Let go of Nicholas!" Nicholas didn't think I'd go for the kill out of the blue like that. His face slammed hard into the pillar beside him, and his nose broke on impact, leaving him with a face covered in blood, tears, and snot. Upon seeing me grip Nicholas by the neck to smash his head into the pillar again, Mabel rushed over, grabbed my arm, and slapped me hard across the face. "Did you not hear what I said? I told you to let go of Nicholas!" I was slapped so hard that I felt blood run from my nose, and for a moment, I thought she had nearly broken my neck with it. I kicked her in the stomach without hesitation, knocking her to the ground. Mabel widened her eyes in surprise, the veins on her forehead bulging. She doubled over in sheer pain while clutching her stomach. I finally snapped as I recalled the humiliation I suffered in my past life. I kicked her straight in the face when I saw her lying on the ground in pain, sending her reeling backward. It all happened so fast that the three of us were already fighting before Josiah and Yvonne could react. They were horrified as they rushed over to pull us apart. In the living room, Nicholas sat with an ice pack on his forehead, his nose red and swollen like a clown's. He leaned against Yvonne with an expression of deep grievance, looking like a vulnerable, wounded child. The sight would've evoked pity from anyone watching. Mabel had a swollen nose and a big shoeprint on her clothes. She glared at me with deep resentment, looking at me less like I was her real brother and more like a mortal enemy. I had two wads of tissue stuffed into my nostrils, but I still stared her down with a sharp, hostile look of my own. Josiah and Yvonne looked at the three of us sitting there. Instead of jumping to conclusions and placing blame like they used to in my past life, they just let out a heavy, defeated sigh.
