The “Useless” Housewife is a Secret Billionaire
"I'm tired of providing for a useless housewife," my arrogant CEO husband sneered, demanding a divorce so he could be with his mistress. Even our six-year-old son hated me, claiming the mistress was better. They treated me like a pathetic maid, blind to the fact that his entire company, his luxury lifestyle, and his parents' bills were secretly funded by my family's Trust. I didn't cry or throw a tantrum. Instead, I quietly canceled all forty-two of his credit lines, packed my bags, and watched his proud empire crumble to dust in less than a month. You want to live without me? Let's see how you survive bankruptcy.

第1章
The night my husband asks for a divorce, I am standing on a ladder, dusting his favorite chandelier.
He looks up at me with disgust and says, "I'm tired of supporting a useless housewife."
He doesn't know two things: first, the contact saved as "Chloe ❤️" is lighting up his phone. Second, his company, his luxury lifestyle, and even his parents' bills are all secretly funded by my family's trust.
I don't cry. I just step down from the ladder and quietly cancel all forty-two of his credit lines.
"Who are you trying to scare with your phone?" Carter says. He thinks I am just throwing a tantrum.
I don't answer. I just fold the cleaning cloth and place it on the kitchen counter.
The phone on the dining table buzzes. Carter glances at it and puts the call on speaker.
My mother-in-law's loud voice fills the room.
"Carter, tell your wife to send me the menu for tomorrow's banquet immediately!"
"Aunt Martha is allergic to seafood. Mr. Sterling needs that 15-year-old Macallan ready. And tell her to double-check the gift bags tonight. I don't want her embarrassing us tomorrow!"
Carter pushes the phone toward me across the table.
"Did you hear that?"
For seven years, I have managed every single detail of the Vance family's social events.
I remember the dietary restrictions of every relative. I remember exactly what kind of liquor Carter's clients prefer. I even remember which uncle gets belligerent when he drinks, so I always arrange a car to take him home early.
But right now, I don't want to remember any of it.
I take a step back.
"Let Chloe arrange it. Didn't you say she's more capable than me?"
"Chloe is coming with me to meet clients tomorrow. She doesn't have time for this."
"She's capable because she helps me make money. What can you do besides handle a few chores around the house?"
"I work myself to death every day to provide for this family, and you can't even handle a simple dinner?"
I look up at him.
He has always believed this family's luxurious lifestyle is entirely his doing.
He has absolutely no idea that in the last three minutes, I have pulled the entire foundation out from under him.
"Then let your mother handle it herself."
I turn around and walk toward the master bedroom.
Carter’s voice rises an octave behind me.
"If you dare walk out today, don't expect a single dime from me ever again!"
I stop in my tracks.
"Okay."
Inside the walk-in closet, I pull out a black suitcase from the bottom shelf. It holds only a few old clothes from before our marriage and my IDs.
Carter follows me in. Seeing the suitcase, he leans against the doorframe.
"Running away from home again? Last time you stayed at your mom's for two days and came crawling back."
"Let me tell you right now, I won't come get you this time."
"You won't have to." I zip up the suitcase. "The divorce papers will be at your office tomorrow."
"Fine. Let's see where a woman like you can go without me."
I drag the suitcase out, the wheels thudding across the hardwood floor.
Just as I am putting on my shoes in the entryway, the door to Leo's room cracks open.
My six-year-old son walks out, rubbing his sleepy eyes. He is clutching a remote control race car.
Chloe bought it for him yesterday.
"Leo, did we wake you up?" Carter instantly softens his tone and walks over to hug him.
Leo dodges him.
He doesn't look at me. He doesn't ask why his mother is leaving with a suitcase in the middle of the night.
He tugs at Carter's pants, looks up sleepily, and asks,
"Dad, since Mom is leaving, can Chloe move in now?"
Carter doesn't answer, but he glances at me.
Seeing no response, Leo mutters again,
"Dad said Chloe makes lots of money... Mom just stays at home..."

At noon the next day, Carter's calls start coming in.
I ignore them.
He sends several voice messages. There's chaos in the background, with my mother-in-law complaining loud enough for me to hear every word.
"Where exactly did you put the Macallan? I've been looking all morning! Mr. Sterling is about to arrive!"
"And Chloe ordered a massive seafood tower! Aunt Martha is having an allergic reaction in the VIP room right now! Get over here immediately!"
After listening, I calmly set my phone down.
In the past, I would have the Scotch ready three days before the banquet.
I would personally order a separate meal for Aunt Martha.
Carter always said I sat around the house doing nothing.
Now he knows.
A "useless" person's job isn't something just anyone can do.
My phone buzzes again. A text from Chloe.
"Are you still mad at Carter?"
"I tried my best to help with the banquet, but you didn't leave clear instructions before you left. I didn't know Aunt Martha couldn't eat shellfish."
"Carter is extremely stressed right now. Stop throwing a fit and come back."
I block her number.
At three in the afternoon, Carter calls again. This time, I answer.
"Are you done with your tantrum?" He struggles to keep his temper under control.
"Because of you, today’s lunch was an absolute humiliation."
"My mom couldn't find her pill organizer, and my biggest client left without even getting a glass of water! Are you happy now? You ruined everything!"
I walk to the window, watching the cargo ships slowly drift across the river.
"The embarrassing part isn't me leaving, Carter."
"It's all of you finally having to take care of yourselves."
Carter scoffs on the other end.
"You think everything falls apart without you?"
"Chloe already went to the pharmacy to buy a new pill organizer. I smoothed things over with the restaurant."
"You think you can manipulate me with these petty chores? You better come back tomorrow morning and properly hand over your household duties."
I interrupt him.
"Didn't you say I'm a useless housewife?"
"Since I'm useless, I have nothing to hand over."
With that, I hang up the phone.
By evening, the sky turns gray. The forecast says we're getting heavy rain tomorrow.
Normally, around this time, I would be preparing Leo's raincoat, an extra pair of socks, and everything else he needs for school.
The screen lights up. Carter sends a photo.
In the picture, Leo is sitting on the floor by the front door, crying his eyes out over his backpack. Chloe is crouching next to him, holding a school notice, looking completely helpless.
Carter’s voice message follows.
"Leo needs a science fair project for tomorrow. Where did you put the box?"
"He's crying and begging for you. When are you going to stop this nonsense?!"
I tap on the photo.
I went to three different malls just to buy him that specific backpack.
My fingers hover over the keyboard for a long time.
In the end, I don't reply.
A while later, Carter sends a second photo.
Leo is no longer crying.
He is holding a brand-new, store-bought science project kit. Chloe is gently patting his head.
Carter's text immediately follows.
"Don't bother. Chloe already bought him a new one."
"Leo said Chloe's gift looks way better than your cheap crafts anyway."
