Chapter 1 Bella’s POV The beeping of the machines surrounding me matched the thudding of my heart. It all came back to me. The pain and agony. My father and my brothers...the three powerful Alphas of the White Claw Pack forever gone. I stared at the ceiling of the hospital, and the numb feeling was washing over me from head to toe. I lay on the bed like a lifeless body, and the only thing I could do was touch my belly—a baby was there. Three months ago, the Lycan King summoned my mate, Jasper, to the North border, where there had recently been unrest. My father and brothers, as Alphas, went to the battlefield together. I waited at home, and every day, I prayed to the Moon Goddess to bring them back safely. But Jasper bore the bad news when he came back. It was also the day I received the news that I was pregnant, the baby I had expected for five years since I married Jasper. The increasing pain kept torturing me. I missed my family. I never saw my mom after I was born. My father and brothers raised me. They were powerful, dominant, and aggressive soldiers on the training ground, but they never made me feel like I needed to surrender to them. We were just a happy, normal family. We talked about everything and created many special moments together. They witnessed my first shift and held my hand, guiding me down the aisle on my wedding day. They meant everything to me. But now I've lost them. All of them at the same time. How was I supposed to keep going without them? My pillow was soaked with tears, and I subconsciously looked for my mate. I felt panicked when I realized he wasn’t there. I remember I fainted in his arms before he answered my question. “Who killed them?” Dr. Janna wasn’t here either. It was then that I noticed a figure by the window. It was my friend Sadie. ““Sadie! My father and my brothers,” I said, my voice breaking. “I still can’t believe it.” She approached me and took my hand. “They were a force to be reckoned with. How could they have been killed?” If anyone understood my pain, it was Sadie. We grew up together like sisters. She is the daughter of Uncle Conner, my father’s Beta and best friend. Five years ago, she moved in with me from the White Claw Pack to Jasper’s Riverbank Pack on my marriage day. It was good to have a familiar friend in a new place. At this saddest moment, having Saide by my side was a relief. I didn't know how long I had fainted, but she must have taken care of me for a long time. She leaned closer as if she wanted to wipe my tears. “I’m really sorry for you.” She laughed. “What? Do you think I came to comfort you?” My eyes widened in confusion. “Oh, pitiful Bella.” Sadie sneered. “Blissful is this day, for at last Jasper and I could step out of the shadows and proclaim our love to the world.” Her mocking laugh was like a slap to my face. “What do you mean?” The pang in my heart made me wish it wasn’t what I was thinking. Sadie’s satisfied grin only grew. Her boldness had no limits, and she continued with her self-satisfying rant. “Because of you, Jasper and I had to hide our love for five years. He was by my side whenever he made an excuse for not being with you. I was the woman he loved.” My heart was trapped in my throat, and an invisible rope strangled my neck, taking my breath. This was not possible. “You've never had enough, Bella. Always wanting more. Always taking away what was meant to be mine. You always had the better clothes and the most expensive jewelry. All the best for the pack’s princess. Then you have to go and shamelessly steal my Jasper!” She bellowed. She hated me, not from today, but from the day I had something better than her “Sadie...I never knew you thought so...” She was one of the most important people in my life. We grew together and had each other for our whole lives. My father and brothers treated her as part of our family. Emotion controlled me, I pulled my arm, and the medical needle pricked the back of my hand and bled me. Sadie walked close to me. Her wolf flickered in her eyes. She grabbed my hand, making me groan and struggle. You know that marrying Jasper was the worst decision of your life. He should be mine. “He is my fated mate. I didn’t steal him from you.” “I saw him first. I talked to him first. But he chose you; it was your fault to seduce him.” She growled. The person I considered a sister and my fated mate had cheated on me for five years, starting from the first day of my marriage. "If you tell me..." Her face contorted. She hated to hear that. “Shut up you bitch. He was always meant to be mine. But finally, I’m getting justice. Now you have lost everything. Your daddy and your brothers are no longer here to support you.” She laughed joyfully. “Stop,” I whispered. Her words were killing me. She had been an illusion in my life. Everything I knew and thought of her was only a lie. “You are no one to order me now, Bella, or I must say, ex Luna. Do you think you are feeling pain now? Wait until Jasper takes over your father’s pack and makes me his Luna. The first thing I will do is strip you of all your ranks. You will be my slave, nothing but a worm in the dirt. Small, dirty, and insignificant.” She spewed her venom at her heart’s content. She left and then slammed the door. I could still hear her laugh all the way from here. I put my shaking hands on my face to confirm I was still breathing; my head was about to explode. I sat up and pulled out the needle linked to my hand. I needed to confirm the truth. Dr Jana appeared at that moment as I was changing my clothes. "Luna, you’re leaving? The Alpha wanted you to stay overnight. He seemed concerned about you.” Said Dr. Janna. Obviously, he probably wanted alone time with Sadie. “I’m fine, Dr. Janna. Remember our deal. Nobody can know.” She nodded. I headed to Jasper’s office. I walked into the Alpha’s mansion with determination. It was the middle of the day, and everyone was busy elsewhere. I heard voices coming from Jasper’s office. The door was ajar. I could see Sadie straddling Jasper’s lap on his office chair. A growl was caught in my throat. “I missed you so much, Jas.” She said in between kisses. Bile rose inside my throat. Each kiss to my mate was like a lash with spikes against my body. “I can’t believe the excellent news you brought. We don’t have to hide our love anymore. As soon as you take over their pack, you can make me your Luna. My father will help you at every step.” Sadie cooed. "Shut up and bend over. It’s been a long time, and Bella is still at the hospital.” Sadie’s exaggerated moans mixed with their unmistakable wet pounding almost made me empty my insides right then and there. I went straight to my room, feeling like a ghost of myself. The wedding picture of Jasper and me hanging from the wall was a mocking reminder of his lies. 'Bella, I will love you forever.' 'I will protect you for the rest of my life.' The promises he made to me and my family were untrue. All five years of care were merely a disguise. He even pretended that he wanted to have a baby with me.. Two stray tears fell down my cheeks. Should I give up on this little life? Jasper was a bastard, and he conspired to take the Alpha title of my father’s pack. If I keep the baby, Jasper will use it as a weapon to threaten and imprison me. No! My heart ached immediately at the thought of losing my child. I just couldn’t; the baby was the only one who shared the same blood with me. I needed to protect my blood, and I still had the chance now. Sadie thought I lost everything with the death of my family, but she was wrong. She didn’t know the real me. Chapter 2 Bella's POV I left Jasper’s place in a hurry. I took my small bag and walked through the roads towards the parking lot, trying to act normally. I needed to leave fast before Jasper felt my absence. If not him, but Theron his wolf. He wouldn’t like it. I froze when I saw Beta Luca standing there in the parking lot. Luca, Dr. Janna's mate and my friend. Another jab at my heart. He must have known everything since the start. He is Jasper’s Beta. The closest person to Alpha. He knew about Jasper and Sadie, but he chose to stay quiet. I stood there, not knowing what he was going to do. He saw me and gave me a knowing nod. “Get in the car, Luna. I’ll take you wherever you wish to go.” He opened the door and helped me get in. It was never lost to me how, as Beta, he had always been protective of his Luna. Whatever were his reasons to stay quiet I’m sure one day he’ll let me know. Inside the car, I breathed a sigh of relief. Luca didn’t ask me anything. He was probably still embarrassed for betraying our friendship. I asked him to drop me somewhere near my pack. He did as he was told, and then he drove off. It was late afternoon when I arrived at White Claw Pack. Everything was quiet. It felt gloomy. They were mourning the death of their three Alpha’s. I came here to await the bodies of my father and brothers. If they fell on the battlefield, the Royal Guard would bring them back home for a proper burial. How I wish my child could have had the chance to meet them. Uncle Conner and my father were the best of friends. This pack saw glorious years under their command. Uncle Conner taught my brothers and then Sadie and me how to fight. The rigorous training for me came years later, but just with my brothers and my father. Did Uncle Conner betray me, too? I disguised my scent as I entered his house quietly. I needed to be cautious and respect the warning my father gave me once. ‘Never reveal everything of what you’re capable of Bella. Not even to your mate. Power corrupts people. You will never know a person’s true colors until you’re no longer of use to them. You were blessed like your mother. Be cautious with that.' The phone rang, and Uncle Conner picked up. “Alpha Jasper.” He said with disdain. “What are you calling for?” Shit, I shouldn’t have come here. Of course, this is the first place he would look for me. My heart started pounding wildly. Uncle Conner sneered at something Jasper said. “She’s not here, I didn’t see her.” Fuck, they’re talking about me. “I don’t have time for this Jasper. We’re preparing funerals for our Alphas.” I started to leave quietly but the next thing Uncle Conner said made me stop. “Fuck you, Jasper. What makes you think you can order me around? Just because you are having an affair with my daughter? I am ashamed because of that! If I didn’t say anything was because Bella’s brothers would not only have killed you but Sadie as well.” He threw the phone to the wall visibly enraged. He knew, but he had his reasons to stay quiet. I was glad that at least he was still someone I could trust. I stepped out of the shadows startling him, but he quickly moved to give me a hug when he froze. “You heard that, didn’t you?” He said, ashamed. I nodded. “But I also heard you refusing to help him. You didn’t betray us, Uncle, and for that, I will be forever grateful.” This time he really gave me the fatherly hug I didn’t know I needed. Tears started prickling my eyes again. “Uncle, I want to see the bodies of my family.” Those were the hardest words I ever uttered. “You didn't know?" Uncle Conner looked at me with pity in his eyes. "Bella, there are no bodies. They couldn’t be found. They were swiped away by an avalanche. The snow up North was out of the ordinary.” A glimmer of hope surged through me, between the dark clouds that surrounded my existence. I knew that not everything was lost. If they couldn't be found, how sure were they of their death? “But if there are no bodies, there’s still hope, Uncle. They need to keep searching. They need to hurry… They need to....” He shook his head, sadness marring his features. The tears I was so bravely trying to contain ran down of their own free will as my last hope was torn to shreds. “No, child. We all felt our Alpha’s aura and control snap. We can’t feel him anymore. You know what that means. Searching for their bodies is another impossible task. More people’s lives would be lost if they ventured into the inclement conditions in the North. Alpha Jasper said that the only reason the war stopped was because the conditions were hazardous. If they didn't die fighting, they would've died of hypothermia. None of those options were good." My heart sank. I couldn't picture my father and brother's bodies buried under piles of snow. They couldn't even rest in peace after death. My lips trembled and I had to dig my nails deep into my flesh to keep myself from losing my mind I stayed in Uncle Conner’s guest room that night, pondering about the death of my family. It all sounded like Jasper’s made-up story. I tried to sleep but sleep never came. It had been such a long and tiring day. I curled up on the sheets; a huge hole was dug in my heart. Today, I have lost the most important person in my life. What should I do now? I gently touched my belly, my child was there. I needed to be strong for my baby. I gradually felt sleepy. The roar of a car made me jump. ‘Mate!’ My wolf, Anaisha said. Fuck, Jasper is here! I scrambled to my feet looking for my stuff. He was already inside the house, he could sense me. There was no way to run now. A loud knock on the door, made me jump. My heart was thumping. “Open the door, Bella.” Jasper’s unmistakable voice came. “I will explain everything to you. You need to listen to me.” Anaisha growled in my mind. I just stood there clenching my fists, unable to believe his lies anymore. "Bella, my mate. I never loved Sadie. How could you ever think that? We’re fated mates. I’ve only ever loved you.” He is a liar. “Come back with me, Bella. Is been almost four months. I desired you. Come home. Let’s make a pup, I know you’d love that.” Bile rose in my throat. Too bad I won’t ever believe him. “We’re done, Jasper. Forever. There is no fixing this.” Jasper started slamming his body against the door like crazy. “Bella!” He growled. Jasper thinks I can’t escape him, but he is wrong. I will never come back to him. My child doesn’t need this scum of a father. I grabbed my bag before he managed to open the door. I bit my right hand’s finger, drawing blood. I carefully Smeared it on my mother’s ring that I’ve always worn. I thought of my father when a halo enveloped me. I disappear instantly from inside the room. I appeared in a deserted forest. It was almost dawn. I stumbled over a body falling on top of him. This man was huge, and he was wounded. I got up on my feet rather quickly. Who can it be? Chapter 3 Bella's POV I almost fell on top of the wounded man. It was still night before dawn. The man moaned in pain slightly. He must be one of the warriors who fought in the war. Before I disappeared from my pack, I thought of my father, and I wished to find him. I'm near the battlefield now. The weather was cold but not as bad as Jasper made everyone believe. I put my arms around me. The night was chilly. I needed to find a safe place to spend the rest of the night. I looked at the warrior on the floor. He must have fought side by side with my father and brothers. They were all protecting our country. The least I could do was to help him. Moving him wouldn't be easy. The soldier was impressive. With massive hands and muscles. Even wounded on the floor, he looked threatening. I played with the ring on my left hand. It belonged to my mother. My father told me how the ring worked, but he never wanted me to use it. He was always overprotective of me on that matter. I had already exposed myself when I used it to get away from Jasper. At least this is for a good cause. I kneeled closer to the soldier. Rubbing some of my blood on the ring, I wished for a sheltered place close by. We appeared inside a cave. I rummaged inside my bag and grabbed a small blanket to put under his head. The light of dawn was shining through the cave's entrance. He was breathtakingly handsome, like a God. I found myself shuddering as I studied his face. I couldn't resist touching his perfectly defined features. When I touched his cheek, I felt like an electric current was coming from my hand. I retracted my hand instantly, but his eyes flew open. His golden eyes pierced through mine. They were cold and menacing, but they seemed to soften when he saw me. "I won't hurt you," I said. "I will take care of you.!" He blinked a few times before his eyes closed again. I gathered some wood to make a small bonfire. The rest of the hours flew by as I spent them taking care of the handsome warrior. With the use of my ring. I gathered everything I needed to treat his wounds. If my father were here, he would've been appalled. I had used my ring so many times in one day, more than I had ever used it throughout my entire life. "By the third day, the warrior seemed to be better. His wounds were starting to heal. The herbal medicine made him drowsy, though. I rarely saw him opening his eyes, but when he did, he would watch me intently, making me blush under his scrutinizing gaze. Sometimes, our eyes would lock, and I felt an increasing pull towards him. The electric tingles I felt every time I touched him were unsettling as well. He never fully woke up, though, and we were never able to have a conversation. Later that day, I was going to gather some berries. I needed to take care of myself as well. The pregnancy was making me constantly nauseous. Sometimes, I had to force myself to eat something. I came to an abrupt stop when I saw the cave surrounded by warriors. My heart plummeted to my stomach. They didn't look friendly at all. They barged inside when they saw me. The tallest, meanest one looked at me threateningly. "Search inside the cave." The burly and intimidating warrior said. He looked like he was their leader. The men scurried inside the cave, looking for something. They were dressed similarly to the wounded God inside the cave. "Who are you, woman?" He asked icily. I retreated a few steps, fearing for my baby. I wetted my lips, feeling them dry. My mouth had probably been agape. Before I could say anything, profane exclamations were heard from inside the cave. "Fuck! He's here, Dane!!" One of the soldiers yelled. The scary warrior named Dane almost pushed me when he ran inside. They were here for him. They sound happy to have found him. I saw Dane's cold demeanor change when he heard that the wounded God was here. "Do not leave that woman out of your sight!" He growled. I fidgeted nervously. Who were these men? They all looked dangerous and powerful. I was sure they would harm me. I was tempted to use my ring, but one of the warriors grabbed my arm. "Do not attempt anything. You don't want to make him mad." He warned menacingly. One of the men came back and dragged me forcefully inside the cave. My hands moved instinctively to my abdomen. We stopped near that Dane guy who was staring worriedly at the wounded warrior. "Who did this to him?" His voice was laced with a dangerous edge. "Speak woman, if you value your life!" He snarled. He was clenching his fists. I could feel his anger rolling out in waves. Where were they when this happened to him if he was so important to them? Usually, I would have something smart to say, but I didn't want to make this beast angrier. "I found him unconscious, and I brought him here." Before I even finished, I realized my big mistake. His eyes went wide, and then he sneered. "Do you want me to believe that a fragile woman like you carried him to this cave? Who else helped you?." He stepped closer to me, trapping me between him and the cave's wall. "Look for her accomplices. Find them!" Roared Dane. He stepped back, making me release the breath I didn't know I was holding. "There's no accomplices! I didn't do this to your... friend. You have to believe me!" I said frustratedly. He punched the wall above my head, making me flinch. He literally made a small dent in the solid rock. How strong were these people? "Oh, I know you didn't do this to my...brother. It'd take more than a weak woman to bring him down. He was clearly ambushed. Someone else helped you, and I will make you talk one way or another." What does that even mean? How did I get involved in all of this? I was just trying to help. My breaths started to quicken. His look was murderous. I was in danger. I needed to make him understand he was wrong to judge me. "That is not how it happened! You're horribly mistaken..!" I kept arguing but they all ignored me. He started barking orders to the werewolf warriors. Some of them brought a stretcher I didn't know they had. "Seize her!" He ordered like I hadn't been threatened since the very beginning. "You will be treated as a suspect until my brother wakes up. You better be telling the truth. Otherwise, we will not show you mercy!" My heart sank. 2 soldiers restrained me and forcibly tied my hands. I was beginning to regret having helped Dane's brother. I stared at him on the floor. Oblivious to everything that was going on. If he were awake, he would tell them, but even though he was healing, the herbs and lack of proper food weakened him. I saw them pull him out on the stretcher. He was too big for it, his legs were dangling. I was unceremoniously thrown in the back of one of their cars once we made it down the mountain. Dane had gotten impatient at my low pace and had thrown me over his shoulder when we were descending. All I could think of was my child. I can't reveal my identity to them. They would send me straight to Jasper. I prayed to the Goddess that Dane's brother woke up. Only he could save me now. Chapter 4 Bella's POV I slept with one eye open. I didn't trust any of these people. At least they didn't hurt me physically, but they were starving me instead. My stomach was growling. I needed to eat something urgently. I caressed my stomach, promising my child I would find something to eat as soon as I could. The door of the cell opened with a squeaky sound, making me jump to my feet. In came Dane with a cup of steaming coffee, smelling like the heavens. The coffee, not him. My stomach growled. I was famished. I could almost taste the bitter yet smooth flavor of the coffee on my tongue. He stood right in front of me. I had to throw my head back to lock eyes with him. Goddess that coffee smelled so good. For a minute, I thought he was going to hand it to me. He just smirked. I felt the need to kick him in the shins if he weren't this stupidly tall. He doesn't look anything like his brother, though. Even their hair color is different. Dane's hair is sandy blond, and his handsome brother has dark, wavy locks falling on his forehead. I shook my head. This was not the time for that. Dane pointed at me with one finger, like I was some sort of misbehaving kid. "Do yourself a favor and start talking. You don't look good at all." I rolled my eyes at him. I was tired of repeating myself. What would it take for him to believe me? I forced myself to repeat it again. "I'm tired of repeating myself, and you won't believe me. I found him lying on the ground, and then I..." He didn't even blink. He definitely didn't believe me, and he'll never do. They will just starve me to death or leave me in prison forever. I couldn't trust his brother to wake up and help me. He probably doesn't even remember me. He was badly wounded, and who knows when he will wake up. I will probably be dead by then. I can't use my ring either. They would hunt me down to the end of the world. Dane's semblance changed. His brow furrowed. Someone was mind-linking him. He let his coffee cup drop and turned on his heel darting towards the exit. What a waste of coffee. The guard locked me up again. A few minutes passed. I don't even understand why they apprehended me. The most sensible thing to do was to thank me for helping Dane's brother. Instead, they were treating me as a conspirator. Just exactly, who is this supposed brother of Dane? I can't stay here any longer. I will not leave my fate and my child's at the hands of these lunatics. I always had the utmost respect for warriors because my father and brothers were warriors themselves, but these warriors are nothing like my family. My family would never target innocent civilian women. I needed to escape now. I had been hearing a lot of noise coming from outside for a while. It was building up with every second that passed. Could it be that the warrior has woken up? My heart started thudding. There was no way to know if he would jump to the same conclusion as the rest of them. My plan to escape wasn't the best, but I was going to try or die trying. It was now or never. I dropped to the floor, clutching my abdomen, screaming in pain. "What's wrong with you, woman?" The warrior hit the cell's bars with a baton. He furrowed his brow in annoyance. "Help me, please! It hurts!!" I gave it my all to my impromptu performance. I heard his keys hitting the bars noisily. He was opening the cell. "Don't you dare die on me, woman. He's awakened, and if you had anything to do with his attack, he would want to be the one who finishes you." I found strength in those words and putting into practice everything I learned from my brothers, I grabbed him by the wrist, stealing his baton. I hit him right in the face. He was barely trying to react when I already had him in a chokehold. He was desperately trying to pull the button off of his neck, but soon he passed out. I grabbed his keys quickly and my bag. They had left it with me after they had searched the contents. I locked the cell with the guard inside and threw the keys out of his reach. I grabbed the only cloak I had inside my bag and put it around my shoulders. With the hoodie, I covered my hair and most of my face. My jaw almost dropped when I saw the huge crowd gathered outside, and it seemed that more people continued to arrive. I sneaked past them, mixing with the crowd. It made it easier for me to pass inconspicuous. Soon, I was outside of that dreadful place. I was going to have to use my ring again to gain distance from them. I couldn't shift to my wolf form while pregnant. I wished myself to be close to the nearest town. I needed food and a warm bed. Luckily, the warriors didn't take the little money I had inside my bag. It would be enough to stay in a hotel for a few days. When I registered in the hotel, I didn't give them my real name. I was sure Jasper would be scouring the earth for me. The werewolf Parliament would never give him the rights of my father's pack without me. He is not a blood relative. He must be desperate. It gave me some kind of satisfaction imagining him losing control. My wolf has been quiet after everything that we went through. The death of my family, Jasper's betrayal, and then being kidnapped and imprisoned. Only the baby is keeping us from crumbling. I can't lose it. It would destroy me and my wolf. I ordered room service before I took a most-needed bath. When I came out, the food was already there. Everything tasted so good. The pancakes, eggs, bacon, fresh coffee, and delicious fruit. I hadn't been eating well for so many days. My heart squeezed. I prayed so much for a baby to now neglect my pregnancy. The Goddess knows it is not my fault. I'll do better now. Hopefully, Jasper and Dane won't find me here. I needed to try to look for my family first. If I don't find my brothers and my father, I will go to the Parliament to expose Jasper's betrayal of the mate bond and prevent him from taking over my pack. He could never have it. I went straight to bed after I ate. I was exhausted. My head and my heart were still in turmoil, but when so many things were going on in my life, I couldn't even pick a problem to overthink about it. I fell asleep as soon as I placed my head on the pillow. I was safe for now. Tomorrow, I will search for my family. Chapter 5 Chad My mouth felt parched. My head was going to explode, and the incessant beeping close by was making it worse. I opened my eyes, but the bright light in the room hurt my eyes. It took me a minute to adapt to the brightness. Where am I? I looked around, trying to recognize this place. It looked like I was in the pack's hospital. My wolf just woke me up. He's been complaining about Dane, nonstop. 'Dane, the idiot, he has imprisoned her, and you wouldn't wake up!' Said my wolf Cobalt with a snarl. No wonder my head throbs. He is utterly enraged. 'What are you talking about, Cobalt?'I asked. 'The fair woman who saved our lives, Dane imprisoned her! Do something!' The same anger started to build inside me as well. 'Dane, where the hell are you?! I'm awake! Report to me now!' I was still grudge, so the mind link went broadly to every member of Mountain's Peak pack. Great! In seconds, I was surrounded by doctors, and the buzzing of people outside was insane. "How are you feeling, my King?" One of the doctors asked me. My head felt like a ton of bricks when I sat up. "Please, my King. You should be careful. Don't overexert yourself. You've been unconscious for so many days, out in the open." Days? I need to speak to Dane. I need to know what happened while I was unconscious. "Do you need something to eat now, King Chad?" The soft voice of the Dr. called me again. "Later, but I will need in advance something stronger, like a bottle of scotch." I grabbed my head after I pulled off some of the needles in my arm. The Dr. gasped. "The throbbing on your head will subside in a few. Your body is still adapting to be conscious and moving again after a long time. We'll leave you for a bit while they bring your food and... scotch." She smiled softly. As the doctors were leaving, Dane appeared by the door. He was agitated. "I told you already you can't go inside Alpha Terrence. The Lycan King will address his subjects once he is ready!" Dane growled. "As a member of the council, I am entitled to see the Lycan King! I need to send a report affirming that he is in good health!" Said Terrence, not giving up. "See? That's your problem there. You are an entitled prick." Said Dane, already losing his patience as he wrestled with the door trying to close it, but Terrance's protuberant belly was on the way. "If you step one foot inside this room, Terrence, I'll throw you to the dungeons for a week!" I snarled. That seemed to discourage him. Dane entered, closing the door on Terrance's face. " King Chad, it is good to see you awake." Said Dane, but he still had a look of concern on his face. 'Tell him to bring her.' Cobalt demanded. 'Easy Cobalt, I need him to tell me first what he knows.' Cobalt huffed annoyingly. He was overprotective of the mysterious woman already. "How long was I out? How is everything around the pack?" I asked, feeling a little weary, I had never been unaware of what goes around me. My pack and country were my main priorities since I still hadn't found my mate. It's a matter that sometimes makes Cobalt feral. "Well, after we won the war, we took our dead and the wounded back home as you ordered. That was five days ago. After the third day, when you never showed up, we started a search party." That long ago? I shuddered internally. "I was ambushed on my way back after I separated from the 3 Alphas of the White Claw pack. I was attacked by 6 wolves, and I didn't recognize from what pack they were. They had the intention to kill me. I killed most of them, I was cornered near a cliff. The ground was loose, and I ended up falling to the bottom of the valley. Cobalt is strong. He gave me enough strength to run to the middle of the forest. It wasn't long after that that I fainted from exhaustion. If it wasn't for that woman, I would've been eaten by the beasts of the forests." Dane gulped suspiciously. "Where is she, Dane? The woman that tended to my wounds and took care of me for days?" Dane went pale. I didn't like that at all. It seems Cobalt was right. "Dane...! I know I didn't dream of her. I was barely conscious, but the few times I could open my eyes for fleeting seconds, she was always there. Pressing wet linens on my forehead. Cleaning my wounds, making me take sips of herbal teas. She saved my life, the life of your King. Where is she?!" I boomed. "S... she is in one of the cells. We thought that she was at fault." He croaked. I never knew Dane's face could redden. "She's what?!" I got up from the bed abruptly. I grunted when a sharp pain crossed through my abdomen. "Bring her here immediately, Dane! I can't believe this!" Even my wolf was outraged. I could feel his anger on behalf of my mysterious woman. My? Dane sprinted out of the room to fetch her. In all the years of knowing my friend and Beta, I had never seen him look so embarrassed. I hope she can forgive us for her unjust treatment. I can't remember her features well, but I do remember the effort and dedication she took with my care. 'Throw him to the dungeons. Make Dane pay.' Cobalt, he is our Beta. He did it unknowingly. We will apologize to her, and we'll treat her as a guest of honor."' Cobalt wasn't fully convinced, but he settled for now. Dane was taking longer than expected, and soon, Cobalt started complaining again. 'If he hurt her, I will take over your body and kill your beta.' Dane wouldn't. He has a soft spot for all women. He was raised by three of them. He wouldn't hurt her with a feather. I was about to argue with Cobalt when the door finally opened, revealing Dane alone. Cobalt snarled inside my head. "Chad, she's gone. She knocked out her guard and escaped. I sent werewolves after her, but they couldn't find her. Which is weird because she has to cross the forest to get to the nearest town. She couldn't have done that in half a day, let alone an hour. The people I sent after her couldn't even trace her scent. I am sorry, I thought I was doing the right thing. If I had known, she would've been treated accordingly." "Dane, I had always trusted your judgment. Of all the times you could've messed up, it had to be this time. If Cobalt kills you, don't blame me. He is pissed. I'd suggest you just step outside for a bit before he takes over and follows through." Dane stepped back. "I will find her, Cobalt. I give you my word. She couldn't have gone so far. She is a little thing, and she doesn't know the forest as well as we do." Cobalt was not talking to him. "A little thing that managed to knock out a trained warrior. You're not making sense, Dane. What did you tell her that made her run away? Forget it, don't answer that. She probably was scared to death, imprisoned in a strange pack. She was ready to risk it all when she decided to attack a warrior. She felt that she was in a life-or-death situation!" I felt sick, and Cobalt was ready to shift. "I'll go search for her with you, Dane. Maybe if she sees me, she won't run again." 'Yes, let's go look for her, but no Dane.' Said Cobalt. I glanced towards Dane. He was on top of Cobalt's shit list for sure. 'We're taking Dane. He knows her.' Cobalt huffed again. "Are you sure you should be traveling right now, Chad? It's almost going to be night. We should wait until tomorrow. You have still not recovered completely. Remember, we still don't know who was behind the attack. Now that you're awake, your wolf and you can heal faster. Tomorrow we should go to the nearest town." He was my Beta for a reason. He was always looking after my best interests. He was right. Tomorrow, I will feel better, and I will search under every single stone for her. The Lycan king will personally go fetch her. Chapter 6 Bella's POV I walked around the forest most of the morning, searching for possible clues. I also went to the spot where I found the warrior. He was definitely not attacked at this place. He came running from the mountain. There were only his footsteps and mine here. What huge feet he has. I chuckled. 'What do you think, Anaisha? Should we go to the mountain?' She seemed to ponder for a bit. 'Yes, but be careful and disguise your scent.' I did, as Anaisha said, disguising my scent with the scent blocker I always carry with me. My stuff was well hidden within the cave. Nobody would know I was staying there. I kept walking until I reached the edge of the mountain. The battlefield was on the other side. All the warriors had to cross this mountain on their way back. I felt I was closer to getting answers. I started climbing the mountain when halfway there, an overwhelming feeling made me stop. Tears started dripping from my eyes. What am I doing? This place is dangerous for me to be out here, alone and pregnant. If it was just me, I wouldn't care. The need to find my brothers is strong, but I shouldn't be putting my baby at risk. I should just go back to White Claw Pack and ask Uncle Conner to send a search party back. The conditions here aren't bad. I still wonder why Jasper lied about it. I started descending when I heard voices close by. I specifically bought my cloak in a color that could easily blend with the bushes. I remained still. All I could hear was my heart thudding. 'Rogues.' Anaisha shivered. 'We'll be alright, Anaisha. They can't scent us.' They were too many. Their rotten smell was making me nauseous. All the bad decisions I have been making with haste, and at the heat of the moment, came rushing through me. I should have revealed my identity to the warriors. Now that I think about it, they didn't seem as bad. Well, compared to the rogues. I remembered my ring at that moment, and just when I was about to bite my finger, two rogues pounced at me. Fuck!! 'Don't show them you're afraid, Bella; they thrive on the fear of others.' The two rogues grabbed me by the arms and lifted me easily from the floor. "We got her!!" Yelled one of the rogues. A chorus of hoots came from everywhere. The two rogues by my side started snickering. They carried me all the way up the mountain. They had tents, and there were more rogues. They were at least 20 of them. My captors held me in place as a burley rogue who seemed to be their leader gave me a once over. He stared at his phone and then back at me. "Would you look at that? It is her!" He said that to no one in particular. "What a delightful coincidence, Luna. You came straight to my den. There's a considerable bounty upon your safe return. Did you know?" The rogue smirked while he continued to bite a piece of straw. Tie her hands and watch her. I've heard she likes to run away." They all laughed. The skinnier rogue was tying my hands while the other one held me. "This is a nice ring! I think I'm going to keep it." The rogue tried to pull the ring off of my finger, but the ring stayed in place no matter what he did. "Leave her alone, Roy!! Their rogue leader yelled. "Bring her over. " They sat me unceremoniously on a stool next to him. The rogue kept staring at me. "You know, I'm in serious need of a mate myself. I like to call myself the rogue king." He put a strand of my hair behind my ear. He definitely was no king. He just looked plain evil, that's why the others obeyed him. "How much is the bounty for my safety return?" I emphasize the safety part. This guy looked creepy, terrifying and creepy, and somehow not fully sane. "We could have a little fun, your Alpha doesn't need to know." My heart thudded. He laughed like a madman. I'm sure I could somehow hurt one of my fingers and smeared my blood on the ring. I just have to wait for the right moment. "Come on, Luna, what's the name of your Alpha? So he can come to collect his delightful prized possession, and I can get my money. Greg didn't give us all the details. The fool thinks I'll share the money with him." He huffed. "He lied to you. My ex-mate doesn't want me. He has taken a mistress. There is no bounty for my safety return. He threw me out of the pack... ah!" My head turned to the side with the strong impact of his slap. My eyes stung, fighting tears. "Don't think you can lie to me, wench. What Alpha in their right mind would throw out a woman like you?" He grabbed my chin and inhaled deeply. "Unless you want to stay with me, is that it? I could get used to your delicious smell." His eyes roamed over my body. "Don't sweat." I hissed. He got up and pinched my chin really hard. I'll give you a couple of hours to reconsider. We have plenty of time. Nobody is coming to your rescue. We saw you arriving alone. A bit of a daredevil, I must say, or stupid. Either way, I know you're lying. Your mate will want all this hot stuff back." He waved a hand up and down my body. "The name is Gunner. Asked for me when you make your decision." He walked away from me while staring at his phone. "Fuck!" He growled. "He survived! Greg failed to mention that. No wonder he was in a rush to leave. What will I say to the boss now?! We lost a great opportunity!" He started kicking stuff and growling. The other rogues moved out of his way while he was ranting. He grabbed one of the rogues by the neck and snapped it. Goddess, he killed him just because he could. He is a monster. Suddenly, going back to Jasper didn't sound as bad. I wanted to say something, but Roy put a finger on his lips and shook his head. "Everything went smoothly with the other three. Why did they have to ruin it?! They had one job! Kill the man, that was it!!" He snarled. Was he talking about the warrior I found? All the rogues were scampering, and Gunner was like a bull on a rampage. He grabbed another rogue and tore his neck. He was getting dangerously closer to me. I stood on my feet and tried to run away. As long as I smear some blood on my ring, I will be fine. Gunner turned his head toward me, his eyes were red. "Where do you think you're going?!!" He grabbed me by the hair, making me fall to my knees. I started screaming as his grip tightened. "Gunner, the money, remember. No harm to the Luna." Said Roy with a gulp. "Do not intervene, Roy. I will teach some manners to this slut. She'll learn not to run from her man next time. Another slap on my face left me seeing black spots. Oh Goddess, my baby. 'Anaisha, the baby!' 'Don't faint, Bella, use your ring!' Chapter 7 Chad After searching in every hotel, I finally got the information that she had gone into the forest. I decided to visit the cave where Dane found me first. My heart was thumping. The rogue activity around here was alarming. What are they looking for? Usually, they don't get too close to my territory. Dane had asked for reinforcements, but we can not wait for them. She is in imminent danger. We encountered 7 rogues near the cave. Dane and I tore them apart. Body parts were flying through the air. Goddess, let me not be too late. Cobalt was on high alert. I am in mid-shift right now. Part man, part Lycan. I am letting Cobalt lead me to her. Her scent is stronger inside the cave. Dane is right behind me, covering my back. I walked further inside, claws out, ready to pounce. Hidden behind a rock, there was a bag. I grabbed it and pulled out a cloth item. I lifted it to my nose and inhaled deeply, peaches and cream. That's definitely hers. Cobalt almost howled, but we didn't want to attract more attention. I've never known fear before. My heart accelerates, afraid to lose her, before I even get to know her. "She was here! This bag is hers. Shift Dane; we can't delay anymore. They caught her. I know they did." I hid her stuff again where she left them. We took our clothes off, and we both ran to the exit, shifting in mid-air. Dane's wolf was big. He was an Alpha serving as Beta to the Lycan King. I shift to my Lycan form as well. Cobalt's senses heightened. 'Follow her scent, Cobalt.' I urged him. We encountered more rogues, but when they saw me in Lycan form, they ran the opposite way. Dane and I caught up with them easily. Cobalt was leaving a carnage behind. He barely left Dane's wolf any rogues. I've never felt him so furious. Cobalt kept following her scent. 'They took her up the mountain!' He snarled. Fuck!! If they cross the border, it would cause another war to rescue her. Cobalt and Pax, Dane's wolf, moved faster. They were a blur among the trees. As Lycan, my eyesight was better than a werewolf's. We were still considerably far away when I saw their camping tents. They were still here, I just hoped she was unharmed. 2 rogues came out of nowhere, but before they even pounced, Cobalt had their hearts on his claws. 'Must find her!' He growled. Pax was getting rid of another rogue right behind me. Our fur was covered in blood already. It was helpful; since it was rogue's blood, it disguised our own scent. We got as close as we could, taking care not to be seen. My heart got caught in my throat when I saw her. Her hands were tied up, behind her. I clenched my jaw when I saw them drag her and drop her carelessly on a stool, forcing her to sit down. My blood was elated when I saw the rogue in front of her. Gunner, the mad bastard. I've been trying for years to get rid of him. He won't come out of here alive. That's for sure. He put a strand of her hair behind her ear. Cobalt made a low growl. We couldn't let them see us just yet. Just then, the bastard slapped her. I was about to jump in, but Pax held me back. We were still too far from them. I wanted Gunner away from her before I could attack. The guy is a lunatic. Nobody could guess his next movement. Finally, Gunner moved away from her while looking at his phone. He read something he didn't like, and all hell broke loose. Pax and I started getting closer. The rogues were distracted, trying to avoid the rage of their leader. Gunner was killing any rogue that was unfortunate enough to cross his path. My eyes would switch towards her at every second. She was brave and strong. Other women would have been screaming or should have been fainted by now, after witnessing that gory scene. She got up from her seat, trying to run. Fuck no! Gunner was closer to her and grabbed her by the hair. "Where do you think you're going?" The bastard asked her and grabbed her by the hair, making her fall to her knees and cry out in pain. "Gunner, the money, remember. No harm to the Luna." One of the rogues said. What money is he talking about? I kept getting closer. "Do not intervene, Roy. I will teach some manners to this slut. She'll learn not to run from her man next time. Another slap on her face, and she went limp on the fucking rogue hold. Cobalt couldn't take this any longer and pounced on Gunner. We rolled on the floor, fighting, but he was no match for me. Gunner's eyes popped out when he saw me. "The Lycan King!" He said with a mouthful of blood. My claws were already digging inside his chest. "You touched what's mine!" Cobalt said as he tore his heart out. I shifted to my human form and saw Dane changing back to his human form as well. Our warriors had come and were chasing after the rogues. I moved quickly to check on her. I wish I knew her name. She was unconscious on the floor, but I could hear her heart. I turned her over, and I swear I wanted to kill Gunner all over again. Her beautiful face was bruising. I wanted to carry her, but I was plastered in rogues blood. Another warrior offered to carry her when he was passing me a pair of pants, but my eyes flashed. There was no way Cobalt was letting anyone else carry her. Another warrior gave me a bottle of water to clean some of the blood on my body, and only then I lifted her from the floor in my arms. Sparks danced through my body when I pressed her against my chest, and I knew Dane heard the soft gasp that escaped me. He gave me a sideways smile. "Make sure her stuff and ours are retrieved from the cave. I'm taking her to the pack's hospital." Dane gave the orders and ran after me as well. I was a little too late. No harm should have come upon her. When we got to the pack, I left her in the hands of the Crown's doctors while I took a quick shower. I have left four guards outside the hospital room and at the hospital's entrance as well, for safety measures. She was not leaving my sight ever again. When I got back, Alpha Terrence was already outside the hospital, pestering the guards with questions. "Is the Lycan King hospitalized again? I should have known. I told him it was a reckless idea to leave the hospital so soon. I am one of the Crown's councilors, but he always thinks he knows best..." I pinched the bridge of my nose and exhaled. He was trying to enter the hospital to snoop. Nobody was allowed to go inside the hospital while she was inside unless they needed attention. "Alpha Terrence." He jumped and turned to face me. "My King, I just.." I stopped him. "I will address the council tonight. We had a rogue attack today. Make sure they're all waiting for me at nine." He bowed and scurried away to carry my orders. When I stepped inside the room, her scent hit me like a tidal wave. She was still unconscious, and the doctors put some sort of drip in her arm. The light from the window illuminated her skin with a natural glow that made her look unreal. Her bag with her things was already there. 'She's so beautiful, Cobalt cooed. 'The fearless Cobalt' I smirked. 'She already has you wrapped around her little finger.' And I was afraid she had me too. One of the Drs entered at that moment. "My King." She bowed. "We ran all sorts of tests on her before we gave her any medical treatment that might be harmful to her. She was generally healthy, although a little exhausted and dehydrated, which is understandable. The other thing we found out is that she's pregnant." Cobalt snarled, making the Dr. jump as he pinned her with his gaze. "Pregnant?!" I growled. "Yes, about four months. She is marked too. The child is not a bastard. Her mark is also from a ranked wolf, an alpha." Each of the Drs. words was like a bucket of ice over my head. Pregnant? And she was alone in the forest, attacked by rogues!! What kind of mediocre alpha leaves his mate unprotected for so long?!! 'We find him and kill him. She's ours now!' Cobalt growled. I clenched my fists. For the first time, I knew the meaning of jealousy, and it was a very unpleasant feeling. I was about to punch the wall when I saw her stirring. Goddess! Chapter 8 Bella's POV I woke up to the sound of voices. I was still in a daze, but something was smelling really good. Just then, I felt someone getting closer to me. Gathering all the little strength I had left. I threw a punch that landed on someone's jaw. A man's chuckle and a sharp gasp from a woman made me open my eyes. My eyes widen in disbelief. It was him, the God Warrior I have saved! He was still smiling as he rubbed the spot where my fist landed. "What a mean right hook you got there." He smiled broadly. Goddess, he was so handsome. I was hopelessly mesmerized by his looks. "Sorry," I whispered. I had never been at a loss for words before. "I...I thought I was still with the rogues." He stretched his hand trying to touch me, but he curled his fingers before he reached the strand of hair he seemed so focused on. I realized then that the Dr. had left quietly, and it was just the two of us. "You're safe now. Do you want me to contact someone for you? A family member, perhaps?" His eyes lost some of their sparkle at that moment. He must find me troublesome, but he went to look for me. I thought the mad rogue had killed me. "How did you find me?" Who are you?" He turned away from me thinking about how to answer. "You don't have to answer if you don't want to," I said. He turned towards me again. "You can call me Chad. Of course, I went out looking for you. You saved my life." I wanted the Dr. to come back. I wanted to ask her if my baby was fine. He noticed how I pressed my hands protectively on my abdomen, and my cheeks reddened. "Your baby is fine. The Dr. told me." My face got even redder. I thought doctors were sworn to their patients' secrecy. He also seemed to read my mind. "Don't blame the Dr. This pack is a military base. Everything has to be run by me. We're on the outskirts of the main city." He said gently. He must be their Colonel, for sure. He folded his arms across his chest. Goddess, he was so strong. I was trying to sit up when he moved swiftly to assist me. He grabbed my hand and put the other on the small of my back to pull me up in a sitting position. When our bodies touched, the same sparks I felt in the cave came back to life again. It was like a powerful current emanating from him sipping through my veins. Our eyes met for the first time, and it was as if time had stopped. My breath came in soft pants as he caressed my hand with his thumb. He smelled so good. I fought the need to bury my nose on his broad chest. It didn't help that our mouths were dangerously close. A knock on the door brought me back to reality. Chad cleared his throat and let go of me. "I see she is awake." Dane strolled in looking cheerful. I looked around for something to throw at him, in case I needed to. Chad chuckled again, guessing my intentions. Goddess, he reads me so well. "It's okay, Dane came here just to apologize. Right, Dane?" Chad gave Dane a stern glance. "My apologies, Miss...? He looked at me waiting for me to fill in the blank. "Bella, my name is Bella," I said. "Miss Bella, quite a fitting name." Said Dane. I swear I heard a small growl coming from Chad. Dane cleared his throat before continuing. "It was never my intention to harm you without concrete proof. I wish I had approached you differently. I'm just grateful that you're back safe and sound." I nodded in acceptance. He at least sounds sincere. "I'll leave you now, I wish you a speedy recovery." He did a military salute and left. Later, a nurse walked in with a trade of food. Chad grabbed it quickly and placed it on the high table next to my bed. He put the table across the bed and put away the plate covers. He also took the wrappers off the utensils. "If there's something else you want to eat, don't hesitate to ask." He said courtly. The nurse's mouth hung open. She had probably never seen Chad, the fierceless Colonel being so attentive. He was just grateful that I saved his life. That afternoon, he had moved me to a suite at the top of the hospital. He insisted that I stay until I was fully recovered. The Dr. was concerned about my pregnancy. I hadn't been eating well lately, and she didn't think making a long trip back to the South would be advisable. I couldn't just tell them I could use my ring. Chad hadn't left my side since I woke up. Dane came for him about an hour ago, but he promised to come back soon. He still wants to know why I was alone in the forest. I was dreading that talk. The embarrassment I felt just thinking about telling Chad about my mate's betrayal was overwhelming, but I had to. What other plausible explanation could I give him? The soft knock on the door announced his return. I went to open with quick steps. My eagerness to see him overpowered any embarrassment I might feel. His towering figure made me take a breath intake. His golden eyes met mine, and like before, they made time stop. "May I come in?" He asked with a husky voice after a few seconds. I stepped aside and let him in. Once inside, he looked at me appreciatively. I was wearing an elegant, long-sleeved silky dress in bronze color. It hugged my upper body to perfection. It was flowy from the waist down, falling below my knees. I knew the brand. This dress was expensive. "Thank you for the clothes. You shouldn't have to." I smiled at him. He was about to say something, but he just waved his hand like it was nothing. 2 people came in at that moment bringing carts with deliciously smelling food. They organized everything on the dining room table. After they were done, they bowed and left. Every now and then, I see people bowing to Chad. The customs of the North are a little strange. I chuckled. Chad was sitting across me and looked at me amusingly. "I like seeing you smile." He said as he piled food on my plate. I love how attentive he was to me. Jasper could take some lessons. Thinking of him, my face saddened. It was time I told Chad everything. "I know you have lots of questions, Chad. You might have noticed already that I'm marked." I touched the mark on my neck. One that in the past, I had always felt proud of. "You also know that I'm pregnant." His face turned serious, and I saw his Adam's apple rise and fall. "My mate is Alpha Jasper Holloway of Riverbank Pack." I heard a clatter on his plate. My eyes became watery all of a sudden. I do not wish to go back to him. He has a mistress. It would be better if I reported him to the council and the Lycan king. I'm not going to overwhelm Chad with all my troubles. I wiped the tears of my eyes, and Chad was behind me in seconds. He put his hand on my shoulder and squeezed it lightly, sending the strength I needed to continue. I almost told him everything that Jasper did to me, but I still haven't even processed it myself. "We haven't been seeing eye to eye lately. I don't even think he knows I'm pregnant yet. I don't even think I want him to know. Jasper and I are fated mates. We were together for five years!" I felt Chad tense on my back, but he didn't say anything. "He's just not who I thought he was. Would you ever hurt your mate's feelings, Chad?" Chapter 9 Chad. I am 36 years old, and I haven't found my fated mate. At first, I thought, because of me being a Lycan, I was destined to die alone. The Goddess might not want to pair me with a she-wolf. As of now, I just think the Goddess hasn't been doing a good job. How could she have paired Bella with Alpha Jasper of all people? The Holloways have always been power-hungry, hypocrites, and without morals. I glanced at the beautiful woman sitting on the chair, and I crouched to her level. I stared intently into her beautiful baby-blue eyes. They were stained with tears. I felt another wave of rage. "No, Bella. If I had a mate, I would do everything in my power to never make her cry. I would give her the moon and make sure to always look at her with stars in my eyes. She would always be my priority and the source of my adoration." Cobalt agreed with me. Bella stopped crying. It was so easy to get lost in her eyes. I stood up and sat across her again. My blood boiled with rage and jealousy. I don't know what was worse, her having a fated mate or that her mate was someone like Jasper. They both hurt. Jasper was her fated mate. She was made for him. I clenched my jaw. How could I compete with a bond like that? I was also enraged just thinking about how Jasper hurt her and took her for granted. My rage and Cobalt's were reverberating in my blood, oozing for release. "Chad, your aura." Shit, my aura was all out emanating in waves. I reigned it in, and she instantly relaxed. "I'm deeply sorry." She nodded. "The bruise is going away. The doctors have created a faster healing serum. You would have healed instantly with that, but you're pregnant." Goddess, the word sounded odd in my mouth. "That's why they ran all tests on you before they used it. So how did you end up in the forest and so far away from your pack?" Her eyes turned sad again. "My father and my brothers fought in the war. You might have met them. Alpha Maxwell Lockwood of White Claw Pack and My twin brothers, Braxten and Brent." Fuck! They were the Alphas I was with before the ambush. "Jasper told me they were dead, but I don't want to believe it. How could I have lost everything in one day? They were all I had! So I came looking for them." She was heaving. I grabbed her denty hand, relishing in its softness. "What do you mean you came looking for them. What happened to their bodies?" I asked, already suspecting one of Jasper's foul plays. "Jasper said they couldn't find their bodies. He said there was so much snow, and the conditions were far too dangerous to risk the lives of more people looking for them. But I'm here, and it doesn't look anything like he described to Uncle Conner, my dad's Beta. I had to see it for myself. I'm starting to believe Jasper lied deliberately. Now he wants to take over White Claw pack, and he's looking for me to facilitate the process." A low growl escaped me. If I had that asshole in front of me, I would pulverize him with my fists. She was shivering. "I was looking for them, Chad, in the forest. But I only found trouble. Well, and I found you. I'm glad I found you." I was fucking glad as well. "I will help you look for your family. Don't worry about that. You don't have to be risking yourself outside anymore. Just focus on getting better. Now, let's finish eating. I'd like to see you eat. Dr. Sarah says you're underweight for your gestational period." her cheeks tainted pink, making her look adorable. 'She is adorable.' Cobalt said. He had been quiet since he heard she had a fated mate. 'I will kill him. He didn't appreciate her. She doesn't need him. She has us now.' As much as I would love that, I'm the King. I can not go out and about killing my subjects just because I dislike them. I'm sure that's something Jasper would do, but behind their backs like a coward. "I'm sorry, Chad, I'm usually not this hormonal. My father taught me to be resilient and strong. I just had bottled up everything for so long, and you're the first person I have ever felt comfortable with, besides my family." That made Cobalt's chest expand. "Really? What about Jasper? Didn't you feel understood and protected by your mate?" I grunted inwardly, I hated to refer to Jasper as her mate. Cobalt huffed. 'He seems to have lost that right already.' Damn right! "Jasper has always kept a cold front around everyone. He hated public shows of affection, and the same rules were pretty much extended to the privacy of our home as well. He rarely let me go to public events and galas with him. He would take me sometimes just to appease my brothers. But he would send me back home early. He used to say that having me by his side made him lose focus." I was wondering why I had never seen her at those events. I've always arrived late, and the woman I sometimes saw on Jasper’s arm wasn't her. "I'm sorry he never saw your value. With your background and beauty, as well as your enchanting personality, you would have been the center of attention at any social gathering. He should have been proud." A beautiful smile appeared on her face. "You always find the right thing to say, Chad." I love how my name sounds on her lips. "Only when the person deserves it." After that, I managed to keep her mind off her troubles for a bit. I made her laugh quite a lot, and it was the most beautiful sound I've ever heard. I reluctantly bid her goodnight after a while, much to Cobalt's spite. I didn't think it was appropriate if I asked her if I could spend the night on her sofa. Dane pulled me aside as soon as she closed her door. "Chad!" he hissed. "You left the council waiting all night for you!" He chided. "Shit, I completely forgot about them." "No! Really?!" He mocked. You need to go back to the Royal City. You haven't been back in a while. She is safe here now. Go sort everything with the council, and the fiancée Alpha Terrence keeps nagging about." I was definitely not going to marry Alpha Terrence's daughter. I shuddered, but not in a good way. "Send them a link to a conference video call in 5, I will make a brief appearance just to appease them. Going back to the city is not possible for now. I don't want to leave Bella. She has not fully recovered yet." Dane exhaled, I know the pressure the council puts on him is too much because Dane was our link of communication. "Chad, I see you're harboring feelings for her, and I would have loved that for you, but she is mated... and pregnant." My eyes flashed. "Don't I know that! But do you know who's her poor excuse of a mate? Jasper Holloway!" I grunted. His eyes rounded. "That's right, him of all people. I also have the suspicion that he had something to do with her father and brother's disappearance as well as my ambush. She is the daughter of Alpha Maxwell Lockwood." "The hidden Princess of White Claw pack?" Dane exclaimed. Bella didn't know she was widely referred to in that monicker. She was far from pampered, though. I could tell by her toned body that she was well-trained. Jasper's books and pack management have been impeccable for the last five years, and my guess is, it was because of her. It baffles me as to why her father and Jasper would hide her from the rest of the world. "There is no way I will throw Bella back to his greedy claws. As soon as the Dr. deems it safe she is coming back with me to the Royal City. Chapter 10 Bella's POV Chad had to leave impromptu yesterday. I can't believe I've only met him for a few days and I already miss him. He has been so patient and attentive. I'm surprised he still doesn't have a mate. She will be a lucky woman, whomever that be. Somehow, thinking about it gives me an unpleasant feeling. But it's understandable I got the short end of the stick where mates are concerned. The Dr.announced herself with a soft knock on the door. Chad left me in charge of only the female staff. Every person who entered this room, doctors, cleaning people, and cooks were only women. Just the guards posted outside my door were men, and they acted like they were afraid to look at me. I think Chad was exaggerating. Nobody in their right mind would come looking for trouble to a military pack. He makes me feel like I matter, though. I wouldn’t say cherished because that's way too inappropriate. He is just grateful that I saved his life. But he saved mine too, so I considered ourselves even. "Good morning, Bella. How are you feeling today?" Dr. Sarah asked. I have been bombarding her with questions about my pregnancy and my baby, but she has been really understanding. She had assured me everything was going perfectly fine. She was also adamant about me needing to eat more. "I feel energetic today. These past few days of confinement have been restful, but I think 3 days is quite enough. I need to go out, or else I'll become crazy." The Dr. chuckled, but then her face turned a little worrisome. I'm not sure if it's a good idea for you to go out without His..." She cleared her throat. "...his approval, I meant to say..." "Please, Dr. I'll tell him I left you with no option but to accept. You won't be in trouble. One of the guards can go with me." I was sure I was almost making puppy eyes, but I really needed some fresh air. "Alright, but please stick to your guards, and don't take too long. My head is on the line." She chuckled, but she also looked like she wasn't joking. Strange. When I stepped outside a couple of minutes later, the guards looked surprised to see me, but they quickly averted their eyes. "I would like to go for a stroll." Without waiting for an answer, I walked past them and continued towards the elevator. They both sprinted towards me, looking, anything but happy. 'Let's just stay inside Bella, please.' Said Anaisha. 'What's wrong, Anaisha?' She still had her pride a little hurt because we got captured by the rogues. 'I'd just preferred it if Cobalt was here. ' I chuckled. 'We can't rely on them forever, Anaisha. In a couple of days, we gotta go back to the White Claw pack. Right after, I expose Jasper to the Council and the Lycan King.' Anaisha didn't say anything else, but something was bothering her, and I was starting to feel it too. l kept walking, admiring my surroundings. We were so close to the forest. Out of nowhere, a young girl came running with a parasol offering to walk along with me while holding it over my head. I politely declined the parasol, but I asked her to walk with me. "What's your name?" I asked her. "Rose, my Lady." She looked like she was still in her teens. "Please call me Bella." She gasped. "I'm not sure if that's allowed." She said meekly. "Rose, this is ridiculous. Call me Bella, I allow it. The customs in the North are really strange. I practically forced Dr. Sarah to call me by my first name and the guards won't speak to me. They just acknowledged me with grunts and mumbling. Is it because I'm a foreigner?" Rose didn't have a chance to answer. Four black SUVs with tinted windows screeched to a halt a couple of feet away. 'He found us, Bella.' Anaisha snarled. Fuck! Warriors surrounded Jasper and his men. My guards stepped in front of me. How did he find me so fast? "Bellaaa!!" My heart started thudding. He was pissed. "Tell them not to get involved!" He kept walking towards me, ignoring the guards. They know Jasper. They have no reason to consider him a threat. "Rose, please. Find a way to tell Chad!" She nodded and left in a hurry. "Let me pass!! I'll be out of here fast. I just came for my mate! Bella, tell them!" He growled. I just shook my head, not accepting any of his claims. "She is Luna Bella Holloway, and she belongs to me. I will report this pack to the council if you don't let me pass! I am Alpha Jasper Holloway, in case you have forgotten!" Anaisha was seething. 'With what right, Jasper comes to claim us?.' An old fat man arrived running and out of breath to witness the spectacle. "What is the meaning of this Alpha Jasper?!" He asked with authority. "Ah, Alpha Terrence! I'm glad you're here. I just came to collect what's mine." Alpha Terrence looked at me suspiciously. Then, he seemed to realize something and turned towards Jasper with excitement. "Of course! Let Alpha Jasper take his mate. We don't want unrest between the packs. We just ended a war, and we don't want to start another. Everyone go to your posts and leave the love birds be. "No, please. I don't want to..." But Alpha Terrence kept threatening everyone, and even my guards left me alone with Jasper. Jasper stretched his arm towards me. "Come, let's go home." I stayed rooted to the spot. He walked closer to me. "Goddess Bella, the pregnancy is agreeing with you. You look even more beautiful." He said huskily. My heart sank. He knows. Dr. Jana must have told him. "I am not going with you, Jasper. You disgust me!" He growled. "Bella, enough of your tantrums! Wasn't that enough for you already? You almost got killed by rogues, for Goddess's sake!!" How does he know? I turned towards the hospital, not wanting to entertain him anymore, but he grabbed me painfully by the wrist. "Bella, start acting like the Luna you're supposed to be. I will put a complaint to the Council. You're clearly incompetent to fulfill your duties. I will also seek the instatetment as Alpha of White Claw pack because clearly you are not up to the task." I slapped him so hard that my hand went numb. "Don't you dare! You're not a Lockwood!" I growled. He smirked. But my son will be. This slap is going to cost you, Bella. I have been way too lenient with you. Let's go home, all you need is a good fuck. You won't be able to walk for days when I'm done with you." Over my dead body. He grabbed me by the waist and threw me over his shoulder, but I bit his back, making him yelp. I slipped from his hold, landing on my feet. I started running towards the hospital again, but he was faster. He grabbed me by the hair and pulled me towards him, but I fell. He tried to lift me, but I bit his wrist, making him bleed. "Fuck Bella, don't make me hurt you! Stop acting childish!" He tried to pick me up once again, but I wasn't letting him. I punched him on the chin. He was still holding me by the hair and started dragging me on the dirt towards the car. "You are leaving me no option. No matter what you do, you'll always be mine, Bella." He kept pulling me; thank the Goddess I had jeans on, but even so, the hard ground was hurting my skin. We were getting closer to the cars. Luca opened the doors of one of the cars. He looked at me with a pained expression. "Alpha, let me help the Luna. I'm sure she's..." Jasper gave him a loud growl. "Don't you dare touch her, Luca? Move out of the way!" Jasper was being territorial, which was making me more mad. I kept kicking and squirming, but he was determined. Just when I thought my short freedom was over. A deadly snarl reached us. I turned towards the source when I saw a magnificent wolf running toward us at incredible speed. A Lycan! He was frothing from the mouth. His smooth black fur was shining under the sun. Jasper let go of me, and I took advantage of that, putting more distance between us. The Lycan stopped between Jasper and me, shifting back right in front of us. My mouth went dry when Chad appeared in his naked form right in front of me. His skin was tanned and ripped with muscles. His imposing 7ft chiseled figure turned to Jasper, staring at him menacingly. One of the warriors threw a kilt at Chad before I got to see all the goods. My face was tomato red when he looked at me. "My King." Said Jasper, bowing slightly. Wait... what?!
