Don Traded His Wife for Another Woman
Don Adrian Moretti used to love Ava like she was his whole world. He fought for her, married her against his family’s wishes, and promised her forever. Eleven years later, he kneels before her in public and asks her to sacrifice her heart for Chloe, the woman he now protects more than his pregnant wife. The request was based on a lie, but the damage is real. Ava stops crying. She stops waiting. She ends the pregnancy he was willing to abandon, signs the divorce, and leaves. Adrian still thinks she will come back—until she doesn’t.

第1章
At the party, my husband, Don Adrian Moretti, suddenly dropped to his knees in front of me—right there, in front of all his underbosses.
"Chloe's a match for your heart. The surgery can't wait any longer."
My throat seized up instantly, but I wasn't surprised.
I gave a bitter smile. "But a person only has one heart."
Adrian looked up at me. "Don't worry. I'll contact the best doctors in New York. They'll fit you with an artificial heart."
"Adrian, I'm three months from my due date."
He was silent for half a second, then said quietly, "The baby... we can have another one."
I stared at him blankly.
The next moment, a girl's bright laugh rang out from nearby.
"Boss, there was never actually a match. I was messing with you. I didn't think you'd actually go and beg Mrs. Moretti."
Someone immediately chimed in with a laugh.
"That joke's brutal. If Chloe said she was a match with me, I'd probably already be strapped to an operating table by Boss's guys."
Everyone was laughing.
Only I sat quietly on the sofa, took out my phone, and booked an induced labor procedure for the next day.
Adrian had never truly gotten angry at Chloe.
Chloe Frost was someone he'd personally brought into the Moretti family. Three years ago, she'd taken a bullet for the family. After that, everyone knew Don Moretti gave her special indulgence.
But this time, after he stood up, his expression darkened in a way rarely seen.
The room went quiet.
Someone whispered a reminder to Chloe. "You took this joke too far—you brought Ava into it. Boss never used to tolerate anyone disrespecting her."
"The year Don Moretti first took over the family, someone made a vulgar joke about Ava in public. He personally broke three of the guy's ribs."
Chloe froze, then her eyes quickly turned red.
She tugged timidly at Adrian's cuff.
"I'm sorry, Boss. I was just trying to joke around."
Adrian said nothing.
She turned to look at me, eyes wet, voice trembling.
"Mrs. Moretti, I didn't mean it."
Someone immediately spoke up for her.
"That's just Chloe's personality—she talks without thinking. Don't take it to heart, either of you."
"Exactly, Boss. She's been with you three years, and she's done things for the family. At last year's anniversary gala, you even publicly thanked her. You can't push her away over one joke."
Adrian's expression finally softened.
He raised his hand and wiped the tear from the corner of Chloe's eye.
"Don't make jokes like that again."
Chloe nodded eagerly.
Then he turned to me, a trace of apology in his tone.
"I'm sorry, Ava. I came to you before confirming the details."
Giving up a heart—something that monumental—and he reduced it to "came to you."
This wasn't the first time.
Whenever it involved Chloe, the normally cold and ruthless Don Moretti became hesitant.
On Christmas Eve, just because Chloe mentioned a stomachache, he drove over a thousand miles to Miami.
When people asked, he simply said, "She's not well. I was worried something might happen to her."
But I was five months pregnant, waiting for him all night at home, and he wasn't worried about that.
With me, he was always calm to the point of seeming emotionless.
"Ava, pregnancy is naturally hard. It'll get better once the baby's born."
I became irritable, and he chalked it up to hormones, offered a few perfunctory words of comfort, then disappeared into his study to handle family business.
Every single time, I had to force down the urge to go after him.
But at the launch event—the one that had cost him five years of effort, the one that finally brought Moretti Holdings into the legitimate market—the first person he thanked was Chloe Frost.
A young subordinate with minimal seniority who regularly made mistakes reading accounts.
By the time I found out, the news had already gone public.
In the interview footage, Adrian's expression was calm.
"Chloe isn't the most capable person under me, but she's certainly the most resilient."
"I'm grateful she appeared in my life and gave me the courage to keep going."
第2章
That day, I accidentally knocked over my favorite vase and it shattered.
When Adrian saw it, he simply told the housekeeper to clean up the pieces.
But that vase—we'd made it together by hand, in a small Italian town, during the year we loved each other the most.
He'd once said, so seriously, that he'd keep it for the rest of his life.
"Maybe I can piece it back together."
I crouched on the floor, trying to fit the fragments together.
He frowned and pulled me up.
"It's just a worthless vase."
My eyes stung red instantly.
But he was looking at my belly.
"Are you feeling unwell again?"
I used to comfort myself that he was a rational person—it was normal for him not to care about sentimental objects.
Until that evening, when I went to his study to bring him fruit, and I saw a locked glass case.
Inside, carefully preserved, was a pen Chloe had given him.
That pen was worth twenty dollars.
In that instant, I went cold from head to toe.
I had a screaming fight with him. I even smashed open the case and threw the pen in the trash.
The next second, he picked it up like he was retrieving something priceless.
When he looked back at me, all that was left in Adrian's eyes was impatience.
"Ava, go look in a mirror and see what you look like right now."
"You broke the vase yourself today. What exactly are you blaming me for?"
I made him swear he hadn't fallen for Chloe. I told him if he lied, God could punish them both.
Don Moretti, who had never believed in God, actually hesitated.
A long time passed before he finally spoke.
"Yes. I have feelings for her."
"But we haven't slept together, and we won't. You don't need to act like you've been devastated."
I couldn't hold back my tears.
He sighed, reached over, and smoothed my tangled hair.
"Ava, we've been together for eleven years. There's no excitement left."
"To put it bluntly, kissing you—I don't feel anything anymore."
"Sometimes I even regret that I married you abroad the moment I turned eighteen. Back then, I never imagined that ten years later I'd fall in love with someone else."
The man who once set off fireworks across an entire city just to make me smile—that was him.
The man now calmly telling me he'd fallen in love with someone else—also him.
"Chloe is lively. Not dull like you."
"She likes pranks, she likes watching cheesy romance movies, she likes feeding stray cats on the street."
"You used to like all those things too. But when she does them, I just find it adorable. I can't control the way my heart reacts."
Finally, he lit a cigarette.
His tone was gentle. And cruel.
"As long as you're willing, the title of Mrs. Moretti will always be yours."
"But you have to accept that she's the only one in my heart."
After that night, I spiraled into a long breakdown.
I cried every day until my eyes were raw and swollen.
I tried to deliberately not care when he came home late, not care that he missed prenatal appointments again and again, not care that he took Chloe on vacation to Hawaii.
But all of it was self-deception.
Until today—when he knelt before me in front of everyone and begged me to give my heart to Chloe, willing to sacrifice our six-month-old unborn child.
I suddenly felt that this marriage had lost all meaning.

Chloe said softly, "Mrs. Moretti, I know I was wrong. Please forgive me."
She sounded more confident than before, a faint smile hidden in the depths of her eyes.
Someone spoke up for her.
"Ava, Chloe didn't mean any harm. She's always had no filter with her jokes. She even said she wanted to marry Boss once when she was drunk."
The moment those words left his mouth, the private room went dead silent.
The man immediately shut up, then scrambled to explain.
"That's not what I meant. I'm just saying she talks without thinking. Everyone knows you and Don Moretti have been rock-solid for years—no one could come between you."
I smiled wordlessly, then looked at Chloe.
"It's fine. I don't blame you."
Everyone relaxed.
Then I continued. "Your Boss and I are getting divorced soon. I hope you get what you want."
"Ava!"
Adrian's face went dark.
"Don't say ridiculous things in front of all these people."
I found it ironic.
"You can kneel in front of all these people and beg me to give my heart to Chloe, but I can't mention divorce?"
He frowned.
"It was just a joke. What's the big deal?"
"Chloe already apologized, and I've warned her. If you keep going, you'll only make things uncomfortable for everyone."
Others chimed in to persuade me.
"Ava, don't be angry. You're still carrying the baby—don't let something this small hurt your relationship."
"Exactly. Boss was so worried about you just now—we all saw it. He's never like that with Chloe."
I looked slowly at Adrian, my voice eerily calm.
"You weren't angry because of me just now."
"You were angry because Chloe joked about the match results. When you heard the truth, you were disappointed. Weren't you?"
He stiffened slightly.
After a moment, irritation crept into his features.
"I'm begging you—can you please not do this here?"
"You can throw away your dignity if you want, but Chloe still has a reputation to protect."
I closed my eyes briefly, then said quietly, "Fine. Monday. The lawyer's office."
I stood up to leave.
But Chloe suddenly dropped to her knees in front of me.
"Mrs. Moretti, please don't blame Boss, okay? He just wants me to have a healthy body."
I looked down at her coldly.
"You went through all that trouble to set up this joke just to prove how much you mean to Adrian. Well, you should be satisfied now."
Her face went white instantly, as if she'd been deeply humiliated.
I stepped around her and walked away.
The next second, I heard Adrian's icy voice behind me.
"Ava, don't forget—your mother is still at Moretti Medical Center."
My steps halted.
Never in my life had I imagined Adrian would use my mother to threaten me.
After a long silence, I forced a smile, went back, and helped Chloe up from the floor.
"Everything I said just now was a joke. I don't blame you."
Chloe choked out, "That's good. I was really afraid I'd caused trouble for Boss."
The scene ended there.
Adrian offered to drive me home himself.
On the road, he made a rare attempt to explain. "What I said back there—I had to scare you. I would never do anything to your mom."
"I know today was unfair to you. To make it up, I'll go with you to your prenatal checkup tomorrow."
"Ava, we've been together for over a decade. I'm not completely without feelings for you. If you could try to get along with Chloe, I'd appreciate it."
I leaned against the car window and said calmly, "I meant what I said today."
"Adrian Moretti, let's get a divorce."
"From now on, whatever happens between you and her has nothing to do with me."
