My Arrogant Wife's Secret Luxury Suite
I had just driven out of the driveway when my phone buzzed with an unknown number. "Hey man, your car is blocking the exit. I'm trapped here and can't get out." I frowned, glancing at my hands on the steering wheel. I kept my tone polite. "My car? I'm literally driving right now. You must have the wrong number." The caller paused for a second. "No way. The license plate matches perfectly. A black Audi Q8. Isn't that yours? It's parked right outside the Sterling Hotel." A sudden, icy hand gripped my heart. That was Chloe's car. "Come on, man, hurry up," the caller urged, his voice taking on a teasing tone. "I literally just saw you and your girl heading upstairs. I get that you guys wanted some private daytime action, but moving your car will only take two minutes. I've been waiting forever." Before I could say another word, he hung up. Listening to the dial tone, my heart sank to the very bottom of my chest. This weekend, Chloe and I were supposed to go back to the countryside to visit her parents. But this morning, she claimed she had to work urgent overtime. She begged me to take the gifts and go visit Robert and Eleanor on her behalf. A terrible suspicion began to take root in my mind. "Alright. I'll be right there," I murmured to the empty car. I slammed on the gas, but I didn't head for the hotel. Instead, I drove straight to her parents' house. "Chloe and I booked a table at the Sterling Hotel," I told them the moment they opened the door. "We're going out for a family dinner." On the way to the hotel, I tried calling Chloe several times. As expected, none of the calls went through. Staring at the dark screen, my chest felt incredibly tight. Chloe's company had strict rules, and she often couldn't answer her phone during meetings. But there was absolutely no reason for her to be at the Sterling Hotel for work. It was a ultra-luxury boutique hotel, not the kind of place used for standard corporate clients. Now that I thought about it, Chloe had spent an unusually long time on her makeup this morning before she left. Was she really working? Or had she completely betrayed our marriage? When we got into my car, Robert and Eleanor looked at me with deep confusion. "Why are you here, Ethan? Chloe said she had to work overtime today and couldn't make it." I forced a smile and lied. "Robert, Eleanor, that was just a cover story. We wanted to surprise you. If we told you beforehand, it wouldn't be a surprise, right?" The excuse sounded perfectly reasonable. They believed me without a second thought. If she was indeed cheating, having her parents witness it would make the show much more entertaining. And if it was just a misunderstanding, I could easily write the dinner off as a nice family celebration. "I've always said Chloe is the thoughtful one in this relationship," Robert grumbled from the passenger seat, immediately finding things to criticize about me. "You really need to learn from her." Eleanor chimed in from the back. "Exactly. You two have been married for five years now, and you still drive this cheap car. Look at this interior..." Robert and Eleanor had always looked down on me. They felt a self-made businessman like me was beneath their daughter. They conveniently forgot that the clothes they wore, the food they ate, and the luxuries they enjoyed were all paid for by me. I didn't argue. I just kept my eyes on the road and smiled. "Your parents aren't coming to dinner, are they?" Eleanor asked suddenly, her voice dripping with condescension. "The drive is too long. They're still out in the countryside, so they won't be joining us," I replied after a short pause. "Good," Eleanor sighed, pinching her nose as if she could smell something foul. "It's better they don't come. I wouldn't want those rural chicken farmers embarrassing Chloe in a place like the Sterling." Both of them were retired from corporate management positions and utterly despised my family's poultry farm. Yet, it was that very farm that funded my first start-up. Seeing Eleanor look so relieved, my smile widened. Since this was going to be an incredibly embarrassing day, having just the two of them there was more than enough. Why drag my sweet parents into this mess? I pressed harder on the gas. "Who knows," I muttered softly. "Maybe you won't have to see them ever again." "And if you're lucky, you won't have to see this worthless son-in-law either."Hearing this, Robert's face instantly darkened. "Ethan, what the hell is that supposed to mean?" "Don't think just because you've made a little money lately, you can talk back to us." "Let me tell you, if you don't behave, our Chloe has plenty of wealthy men lining up for her." I tapped my fingers on the steering wheel, keeping my eyes on the road. "I know, Robert." "Besides, cheating and breaking vows are things only trash would do. A decent man like me could never." Once we arrived at the hotel, I used my phone app to unlock Chloe's car and park it properly. The moment I sat in her driver's seat, my suspicion was confirmed. Chloe was short. She always adjusted the seat so close to the steering wheel that my knees would hit the dash. But right now, the seat was pushed all the way back. It was adjusted for a tall man. I called Chloe again. Still, no answer. So, I dialed her colleague, Lindsey. "Hey, Lindsey. Sorry to bother you on the weekend. Are you busy today?" Lindsey sounded surprised on the other end. "Ethan? We have the weekend off. I'm just relaxing at home." My chest tightened, but I kept my voice cheerful. "Oh, really? Actually, today is our fifth anniversary. I want to give Chloe a huge surprise. I was wondering if you could help me round up a few of your colleagues and meet us at the Sterling Hotel?" Lindsey didn't suspect a thing. She eagerly agreed. Before getting out of the car, I took a deep breath. If nothing was going on, I would gladly turn this into a real anniversary surprise. But if Chloe had truly betrayed me, then this surprise was about to turn into her worst nightmare. When I walked into the lobby, Eleanor was already complaining. "What took you so long to park? Where is Chloe?" "Don't worry, Eleanor. We're getting there." The receptionist greeted us with a professional smile. "Good afternoon, sir. Do you have a reservation?" I stepped forward, acting casual. "Yes, my wife booked a room. Her name is Chloe Vance." "She didn't tell me the exact room number, though. Could you just guide us up?" The receptionist's smile faltered slightly. "I'm very sorry, sir. We cannot disclose our guests' room numbers for privacy reasons." "Perhaps you could call your wife? Once she confirms or comes down to get you, I'd be happy to escort you up." I understood. The hotel was just protecting their guests' privacy. How ironic. My wife was likely upstairs right now, destroying our marriage, and the law and hotel policies were protecting her privacy. "Alright." I called Chloe right in front of the receptionist. Still, the line kept ringing until it went to voicemail. "See? She's probably busy and didn't hear it," I said, turning to the receptionist. "We're here for a family weekend. Surely you can just let us up." Behind me, Robert and Eleanor were growing extremely impatient. But the receptionist remained firm. "I'm truly sorry, sir. I cannot do that." "Why don't you wait in the lounge? The hotel will provide complimentary drinks and pastries." Eleanor couldn't take it anymore. She stormed forward, pushing me aside. "What is wrong with this hotel?" she yelled, slamming her designer bag onto the counter. "My own daughter booked a room here, and you won't let me go up?" "We paid a fortune for this, and you're keeping us waiting in the lobby like beggars?" The receptionist looked apologetic but kept her ground. "I'm deeply sorry, ma'am. This is strictly to protect our guests' privacy. Please understand." Eleanor had been pampered her entire life. Especially in recent years, since I had become wealthy, she had lived a luxurious life without ever facing any resistance. "Unbelievable! Call your manager right now!" Eleanor shrieked. "I want to ask him directly: when a mother wants to see her own daughter, whose damn privacy is being violated?!"Bringing Robert and Eleanor along wasn't just to make the scene more dramatic. It was because Eleanor's obnoxious, demanding personality was actually highly effective in situations like this. Chloe and I had been together since college. I started my business during my sophomore year. After graduation, Chloe landed a prestigious corporate job. To everyone else, we were the perfect couple. One had a stable, respectable career, and the other made a ton of money. But Chloe had inherited her parents' insufferable arrogance. When we were dating and first married, I thought her high standards were a good thing. I figured it would motivate me to do better. But as the years went by, she began to look down on me for being a "mere businessman." She spent my money like water, yet constantly bragged about being an independent, high-flying career woman. She refused to have children and insisted on sleeping in separate bedrooms. At home, I had to cater to her every whim like a servant, meeting both her emotional and material demands. And yet, no matter how hard I tried, it was never enough. Whenever she came home, she would lecture me using corporate buzzwords she picked up at her job. If I tried to discuss anything with her, she would look at me with disgust, claiming I knew nothing about "real corporate world." She constantly talked about how hardworking the men at her company were, and how prestigious it was to work in a real office. In her eyes, even the low-paid contract workers at her firm were superior to me. Soon, the hotel manager rushed over. "Good afternoon, ma'am. How can I assist you today?" Eleanor crossed her arms, looking down her nose at him. "My daughter booked a room here. Why the hell am I not allowed to go up?" The manager bowed slightly, his tone incredibly polite. "Of course you can, ma'am." "If you could just tell me your daughter's room number, I will personally escort you there." "If I knew the room number, why would I need you to escort me?!" Eleanor's voice grew louder, drawing stares from other guests. "Take me up right now. Do you have any idea what company my daughter works for?" "One phone call from us, and I can have this hotel shut down for an inspection!" The manager kept smiling, but his attitude remained firm. "I apologize for the poor experience, ma'am." "But we have strict policies regarding guest privacy." "How about this? I'll make an exception. If you give me your daughter's name, I will call her room directly from our internal line to verify. Would that be acceptable?" Eleanor snorted. "Finally, some common sense." Before she could say Chloe's name, I stepped in. "We already tried calling her cell, and she didn't answer." "If she were free, she would have answered. A call from the front desk might disturb her if she's resting." I couldn't let them make that internal call. If Chloe answered, she would know we were downstairs, and all my plans would go to waste. The manager immediately offered a backup plan. "In that case, let me escort you all to the VIP lounge. Once your wife calls back, you can head up immediately." That wouldn't work either. My entire plan relied on the element of surprise. If I couldn't catch Chloe off guard, this whole trip was pointless. Before I could object, Robert waved his hand dismissively. "Fine, let's do that. We can't just stand in the lobby like fools." He turned to glare at me. "And you, you're always so useless at handling simple things. No wonder you're just a vulgar businessman." Just as I was racking my brain for an excuse to stop them, several familiar figures walked through the revolving doors. It was Lindsey and Chloe's colleagues.Seeing me, Lindsey waved from across the lobby. "Ethan! We didn't keep you waiting, did we?" A cold smile tugged at the corner of my lips. "Not at all. You arrived at the perfect time." I immediately turned to introduce them to Robert and Eleanor. "Robert, Eleanor, these are Chloe's colleagues." "I mentioned a surprise earlier. They are part of it." Hearing that these well-dressed people worked at Chloe's prestigious company, Robert and Eleanor's expressions instantly softened. "Ah, no wonder you all look so professional and successful," Eleanor cooed, her face lighting up. "It's so wonderful to meet Chloe's colleagues." "Unlike those dirty street vendors, you can tell you guys have real class." After a round of polite handshakes, Lindsey turned to me. "So, Ethan, which room are we heading to?" "Don't worry, none of us whispered a word of this to Chloe." "Thank you so much, guys. I really appreciate it," I said, before turning back to Robert and Eleanor with a troubled look. "Maybe we should just do what the manager suggested and wait in the VIP lounge for now." Both parties were completely in the dark about what was actually happening. Lindsey looked confused, wondering why I had organized a surprise party but hadn't even secured a room. But she kept quiet out of politeness. But Robert and Eleanor were extremely vain. Especially in front of Chloe's prestigious colleagues. They wouldn't dare ask why her colleagues were invited to a "family dinner," nor would they ever humiliate themselves by making everyone wait in a lobby lounge. Sure enough, Eleanor shot me a harsh glare. "Wait in the lounge? Absolutely not. We are going up right now." "Chloe's colleagues are here. We must host them properly." Robert stepped away from the group and pulled out his phone to make a call. I knew Robert would find a way to get the room number. He had plenty of retired connections who could pull favors, even if it meant nagging some VIPs. In truth, this hotel was owned by a close friend of mine. I could have gotten the room number with a single text to him. But if things got messy, I didn't want to drag my friend into it. If her own father used his connections to find the room, it was a completely different story. A few minutes later, Robert walked back with a triumphant grin. "Let's go. She's on the 24th floor. She's waiting for us." The group moved toward the private elevators. Lindsey walked beside me and whispered, "Ethan, the 24th floor is the penthouse suite level. Are you sure it's appropriate for us to go up there?" The penthouse suite. Suddenly, I remembered the massive credit card notification I had received two days ago. I was so used to Chloe spending my money on luxury items that I hadn't thought twice about it. So, she was using my hard-earned money to book a luxury suite to sleep with another man. I looked at Lindsey and smiled slowly. "It's completely appropriate. In fact, you guys are the most important guests today." When the elevator dinged on the 24th floor, we stepped into a private hallway. There was only one suite on this entire floor. "Robert, Eleanor, guys, please keep it down," I whispered, holding a finger to my lips. "The surprise is about to be revealed." Instantly, everyone fell silent, waiting with bated breath. I walked up to the heavy oak door. My heart was pounding against my ribs, but my hands were completely steady. I pressed the doorbell. "Room service. Complimentary drinks." The suite went quiet for a moment. Lindsey and the other colleagues split into two groups, hiding on either side of the doorway, holding confetti poppers. The door unlocked and opened a crack. I slammed my hand against the wood, shoving the door wide open. "Surprise, Chloe!" the colleagues shouted, popping the confetti.
